that nice Nurse Ratched came with the meds. I feel better now.

seriously, if you had told us last August, we would have 13 wins by early February and still have a (slight) chance for home ice...

its not that bad.

really.

really not that bad.

seriously.

You are right huskyfan, most were predicting single digit wins this year, we're nearly .500, this season has gone beyond my expectations!

But it's still too bad the big crowd couldn't see a goal tonight, rough road ahead heading to Grand Forks.

Mel's postgame thoughts:
it was a good game at the start, the 1st goal would be critical
We were fine until they got ahead, they started trapping and we were forcing
We're right there, felt good about 3rd period, got some grade A chances, but didn't go in
Massa had a big game, need your goalie to step up when you're battling for home ice
We were sloppy, looked a little tired in PP, they're aggresive, other teams have not done that but we'll see more of that
Don't want to overreact, tight series for 5 periods, but will review the lineup, could've used Milos
Felt good about our lineup, that's a very good hockey team, to this day, that might've been the best hockey team we've played
They're a physical team, we might've tried to do too much with the puck istead of smiple plays
Guys are pushing, but they need to understand there's a certain way we need to play to be successful
Told the players I'm disapointed, not in them, but that we couldn't play better and find a way to win this game, we'll be back and get to work on Monday
6 games to go and can still do some damage in this league
we've played better lately on the road, doesn't matter where we play, more of style and how we play, we'll be ready

this year, it would just be like Tech to go to North Dakota and sweep.

These two statements reflect what I observed the most. Multiple cute, no-look passes right into traffic and trying to force stuff that just wasn't there. When they did get the puck to the net, Massa was usually on it, but they needed to try and get the puck to the net far more often than they did.

Also, not that the game was his fault at all with the lack of offensive support, but Robinson's gotta have that third goal. He knew it too, he was POed at himself.

Anyone else hear Yzerman is courting Pearson?

Tampa Bay? Here? Tampa Bay? Here? Tough choice!

2.75M? 275K? 2.75M? 275K? Tough choice!

Enjoy it while it lasts!

Re: Michigan Tech 2011-12 Season Thread, Part II: You're gonna need a bigger bandwago

random thoughts.
If he is courting Pearson, which I don't doubt, he's a smart guy.
Tech has had a tough time against the trap all year and continues to struggle with it, but they are learning and doing better week by week.
Disappointed also but there have been tough losses before.
I am wondering if we see these guys again next month.

So much better than last year, can't possibly convey how different, from my perspective, one season makes.

When is the last time NHL scouts came to Houghton for a game.

BAD Yzerman! Go away. Tech hockey fans have been kicked squarely in the collective junk too many times over the last 35 years to lose our coach after one season or less.
Are the Lightning short a coach?

I'm guessing the scouts were there to see whether Olson, Baker or Matt Smith might be worth signing after the season, or if Jaycob Megna might be worth drafting.

The only Huskies young enough to be draft-eligible are Tanner Kero, Riley Sweeney and Jimmy Davis. For Nebraska–Omaha, James Polk is the only other one.

Unless Steve Y is helping his amateur scouts out... I'd worry your coach is leaving. Most every NHL team has a staff of guys who scout college seniors/free agents.

I do hope that Mel is like Walt Kyle in that he's able to tell the NHL no. Walt has said no to the Devils, Oilers, Thrashers, and one other NHL team.

Way to start an unfounded rumor. First, the average NHL coaching salary is around $1 million a year. They're going to pay $2.75? Nice try.

I agree, a person in Yzerman's position is not scouting players. Especially on these 2 teams. No disrespect to any of the players but there is a whole staff of scouts paid to do that. This is much bigger!

Coach just remember your comment about wanting to retire here from MTU!

Or maybe he just likes our snow sculptures! Let's hope!

My junk was just starting to feel good again.

What's the average college coach's salary? Nuff said!

Word is he was looking at D. Johnstone among a few others. He's been tasked with rebuilding the franchise, sometimes you have to do the leg work yourself. Just like Mel Pearson on the recruiting trail this year.
