Re: Michigan Tech '11-'12 Season Thread I: Hope Springs Eternal

It was disappointing to read the box score and see that paid attendance was only 2175 when the #2 team in the country was in the barn. What is up with that???? Wisconsin series drew 3000. Anybody have an idea on why there was such a low turnout to the game?
Friday night, people figured we'd get pounded? I don't know...I'm sure attendance will jump tomorrow.

It was oddly empty. One thing that almost caused a conflict in our house was the haunted house stupidly scheduled their kids hours from 7-9 on Fri & Sat only. But I don't know...HS football is over etc. I assume people were expecting the reverse of what happened so didn't bother going?

I am in fact a junior. Unfortunatly i have a boss that frowns upon me when i show up hungover to work at 8am....

So suck it up and don't act hungover :P

I haven't been able to attend a single home game this semester and it sucks...I've gotten tickets for all the games except these ones, but I haven't been able to go due to prior commitments or senior design lab work and such. Since i'm a CS major, the rest of my group likes to work on Friday and Saturday nights instead of being social and we usually end up in the labs until 9-10pm

Bout to say **** em cause I just want to see a fricking hockey game.

Great job Huskies. Do it again tomorrow. I will miss playing you guys regularly after next season. I wasn't alive in the 70's, but it doesn't take a genius to know that Minnesota and Tech share a pretty serious history.

I'm sure part of it is that Denver is a "Premium Pricing" game. General admission is $17 for this weekend. When Mankato comes to town that same ticket is $12. If folks are balking about parking, I'm guessing they might pass on "premium teams" as well. Oh well, it was their loss not to be there.

Well then, don't show up at 8 then. ;)

Tech at GVSU for football tonight. Only the 3rd game I've gotten to this year, and I'm breaking out the bolts for it. :D

So let me get this straight. Tech scored 7 goals... in one game?

I forgot about this and I think it is probably a significant factor.

there were also several other functions going on (National Park gala, halloween stuff). it seemed very empty at the beginning of the game, but filled up nicely as the game went on. tonight will be rockin'.

the Misfits filled almost three sections. the band almost another. all the suites were filled.

It just goes to show you how much difference a new coach with a new voice and direction can do for a hockey team.

So happy to see Tech having a great start to the season. It has been many years since they have done this, if ever and the fans must be over the moon to watch this Tech hockey team. Rooting for them from away!!!! GO TECH!!!!

Absolutely!! Tech has some talent; all they needed was for someone to make them believe in themselves. A new uptempo style of play doesn't hurt either.

I was accused of drinking the koolaid when I predicted that Tech would have an overall record close to .500 this year but barring any significant injuries they may even surpass that. Gordic was the leading scorer last year and his return obviously will have an impact. A starting defenseman is still out but will be back soon.

Even though they were swept by Bemidji they had an excellent game Saturday night outshooting Bemidji 32 to 16.

They will be in almost every game and any team that looks past them will do so at their own peril. That being said they still have growing to do, and even a koolaid fanatic like myself would be surprised if they sweep Denver.

I think having a longer term perspective helps too. The players know that Mel is assessing their performance on the ice and the team's development, not necessarily the win or loss. That means when they fall down 2 goals, then still fight (I mean effort, not the old typical Tech response of actually fighting) because there's a player or two up top in the press box waiting for a chance to take their place next game. Same goes for the team being up a couple goals. Keep playing or you lose your spot.

Finally, the thing that struck me was the discipline last night. No stupid penalties. A couple lazy penalties, but nothing out of frustration (maybe being up 3 goals reduces the frustration level a bit).
