Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

I have UND in the top two and you're complaining.

No, I just don't think you're anywhere close to being right. UND won't be in the top two, CC certainly won't be in the top two and Tech won't be in the top five. :p

So give me a better prediction.

So give me a better prediction.

DU wins the league by 4-6 points. Minnesota and Wisconsin fight for 2nd with the Gophers getting it. UND and SCSU get the last two home ice spots. UMD and UAA end up tied for 6th/7th. CC, Mankato and Tech bring up the rear.

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

Sorry for the double post. F2B&G I just read your blog.

Did I miss Creamer, or are we carrying three goalies.

Second, I am higher on the goaltending situation than I have been in a while. I think several of the veteran defensemen should look out or they will not dress.

I like the idea of a really big forward causing problems on the pp and I'd like to see how Dobson does on the pp as defenseman. Otherwise I'd play him at forward. I think as far as Gwillam, the last couple of years he got himself in scoring position a lot, had the puck open in front, but failed to finish. If he can find the back more often, we will be a lot better.
Special teams need to be in the top of the league not the bottom. IMO if we show in the first few games a solid PP and PK, it bodes well for the rest of the season. Overall I think the schedule is more favorable than last year.

We are indeed carrying three goalies. The coaching staff seems to think more highly of Cramer's potential than I do, but perhaps they were just being nice enough to include him when talking about the situation in the official prospectus. To be fair to Corson, he played on an awful (and now defunct) USHL team two years ago and still managed just under a .900 SV% over two seasons. His only action last year came during Tech's worst weekend of the season (home against Denver). However, Genoe's resume is spiffier and Robinson has a lot more game experience, so I think they are battling it out for the #1 role and Cramer is the next Hachey, as we have all said before.

Gotta agree with you about the defensemen. If everyone stays healthy, there will be no room for laziness like there was all too often last year. No one's spot in the lineup will be guaranteed.

Reading the prospectus, it seems like Russell expects to give Dobson ice time at both forward and defense, depending on the situation we are in.

Special teams can only improve upon last year, IMO. Especially the penalty kill - I want to see that back in the 85%+ range by the end of the season.

Thank you for your opinion, but you're wrong and I'm right, because I'm me and you're not.

And yes I know I know I know little to nothing about any of the teams in the league this year, but I'm still right because I am always right.

Switch Wisconsin and UND and Tech and UAA and I think you are spot on!

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

While it looks like CC will have a rough year, I have to hold off from predicting them to finish in the bottom three. Two years ago, Owens answered a prediction for a bottom half finish with Bachman and a MacNaughton Cup. So while the odds of another Bachman are slim and things look pretty dire on paper for the Tigers, I think there's always the chance that he has something up his sleeve and that at least a couple of their sophomores & juniors will step up and have breakout years to help CC be more competitive.

At this point, I would say that Tech finishing in 10th again is more likely than CC finishing in the bottom three.

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

F2B&G's Semi-Grounded Predictions That Will End Up Being Wrong

1. Curious George's Traveling Salvation Show

If they stay healthy and don't win the MacNaughton, they will have no one but themselves to blame.

2. UNDUIs (© Dirty)

No reason not to think Hakstol's team won't start slow, find Duncan's replacement, and finish strong.

3. Evil Huskies

St. Cloud scores plenty of goals and Mike Lee proves to be a solid goalie, but they are simply outclassed in terms of defensive depth compared to the top 2.

4. Paint Thinner Nation

Eaves has plenty of talent at his disposal. They need a goalie to quickly step up to the plate though, or it could be a slow start for the Badgers.

5. Goofers

tDoo avoids a third year of embarassment and squeaks Minnesota back into home ice.

6. Peanut Butter Hjelle Time

The Bulldogs have enough talent to be better than the rest of the bottom half, but will find life after Stalock and Sharp difficult.

7. Tiggers

A rough first half leads to some maturing and enough second half magic to compete for the last home ice spot.

8. Landcows

Talented junior/senior classes will help new goalie Murdock find some mojo at the collegiate level, but Mankato will take a lot of unnecessary penalties.

9. Good Huskies

Chip on their shoulders after last year's disaster. Only slightly better than Anchorage, but just good enough to avoid a repeat of rock bottom.

10. Shyiak's Pity Party

No consistency in net/atrocious penalty kill will do the Seawolves in regardless of scoring ability.

It goes without saying that 1-3, 4-7, and 8-10 are more or less interchangeable.

Re: 9 out of 10 Coaches Agree, The 10th coach can't vote his own team into 10th place

I'm not sure what is more shocking - the fact that every coach in the league picked Tech to finish last, or that the coaches picked CC to finish 8th.

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

Well, you are all wrong, as usual, except for dirty, his prediction actually has a little merit.:p

1. Minnesota
They will be motivated after suffering the embarassment of not making the NCAAs last year. Kangas Khan will be back and Schroeder will dominate.

2. Denver
Great team, my pick to win the NCAA championship. With all of the talent they have coming back, this will be a disappointment to finish 2nd.

3. North Dakota
Eidsness should be solid in net and they have some good seniors to lead the way in VandeVelde and Genoway to go along with their talented cast of Gregoire, Hextall and company.

4. St. Cloud State
Mike Lee proves to be a great goalie, as everyone expects. He will be freshman of the year in the WCHA, barely beating out Nick Leddy and Drew Shore. Not to mention they have a couple good scorers coming back...

5. Wisconsin
Goaltending will be a problem for them and no one will be there to fix it, after their prized goalie coach left last year.

6. Minnesota State-Mankato
Burdock will have a solid year in goal as a freshman, but this team just isn't quite in the class of the top 5.

7. Minnesota-Duluth
No Stalock...enough said.

8. Colorado College
No Bachman and their scorers are all gone, I can't see where they're going to get goals from.

9. Alaska-Anchorage
Anchorage sucks. Terrible goaltending, sketchy volcanoes, and disgusting strip clubs.

10. Michigan Tech
I'm sick of thinking Tech will finish better than 10th and being disappointed. So this year I have very low expectations. Tech won't win a game, and will only score 10 goals all year.

CC won't be that far down. No way, even if they have lost a number of players.

1. DU
2. Wisconsin
3. UND
4. Minnesota
5. UMD
6. CC
7. St. Cloud
8. UAA
9. Mankato
10. Tech.

...but somehow, Tech will take two games from DU to be in the Final Five, and even win on Thursday for the first time in ages.

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

I figure it's time for this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfXsCfWSZAA

Hello out there, we're on the air
It's Hockey night tonight
The tension grows, the whistle blows
And the puck goes down the ice

The goalie jumps and the players bump
The fans all go insane
Someone roars, Bobby scores
At the good old Hockey game

Oh! The good old Hockey game
Is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name
Is the good old Hockey game!

Second period
Where players dash with skates a flash
The home team trails behind
But they grab the puck and go bursting up
And they're down across the line

They storm the crease like bumble bees
They travel like a burning flame
We see them slide the puck inside
It's a one-one hockey game

Oh! The good old Hockey game
Is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name
Is the good old Hockey game!

Third period, last game of the playoffs too!
Oh take me where the hockey players
Face-off down the rink
And the Stanley Cup is all filled up
For the champs who win the drink

Now the final flick of a hockey stick
And on one gigantic screen
The puck is in - the home team wins
That good old hockey game

Oh! The good old Hockey game
Is the best game you can name
And the best game you can name
Is the good old Hockey game!

7. uaa- tie with makato.
8. umn- (kangas will be exposed, for the poser he is, again.)
9. cc lost too many players
10 umd.

but this is just my opinion you know.

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

I love how every year someone thinks we're going to finish in the Top 5. Here's to crappiness, friends. I'll be happy if we can beat 10th :p

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.
