Tech better shape up...there's this team 100 miles south of me that could **** well win the WCHA, if not more :D

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

I go away for the weekend and we hang five on Northern? JFC.

I will have to catch the archived games, but it sounds like the NMU win rocked.

That said, I have a feeling it's going to be one of those up and down years. The team will simply get up for the games that they feel are important and put in some lazy, lackluster performances in others. As a Tech fan, I have unfortunately come to expect this over the last three seasons, and I anticipate it doubly so this year due to the youth of the team.

Hopefully the LSSU game can just be attributed to the "NMU Hangover", but we shall see. I had a feeling that playing on Sunday wouldn't be too good if we beat Northern and had a day to savor the win/sit on that momentum.

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

Considering apparently sometime between Friday night when the Northern game ended and Sunday when the LSSU game begun Kattelus did something that warranted being suspended indefinitely.

I don't blame the team for possible being a bit distracted and not all there on Sunday night. It's a very good chance whatever happened was still effecting the team. Of course I have no idea what happened so I may just be searching for excuses.

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

Russell's postgame didn't seem to allow for this as an affect of the Kattelus thing, but that may just be the way he'd deflect it.

I'm less prone to think of this related to Kattelus, and more frightened to think that we're back to the "two faces of Michigan Tech hockey."

Which team will show in the springs in two weeks?

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

I doubt that whatever Kattelus did to warrant an indefinite suspension would affect the entire team, unless others were somehow involved and there was a 'big scandal', which does not seem to be the case.

I think the team was simply guilty of overlooking the Lakers and taking bad penalties. Having Saturday off to rest on the laurels of the big win over Northern made them lazy.

EDIT: And by "off", I mean that they didn't play a game.

I think anything that went down within a 48 hour time period that warrants an indefinitely suspension out of the blue is a something that could have a very drastic effect on team moral. Even if all it was, was finding out your teammate was suspended indefinitely and not really having time to process it before you took the ice.

Calling all Misfits!

Due to the Tech at NMU game falling during Christmas break, we'll be sponsoring a different road trip this year. This year the Misfits will be taking 60 of their own to Duluth, MN to watch our Huskies take on the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs November 13th and 14th.

The bullet points:

* $24, the cost of two tickets, will provide you with tickets, transportation, and lodging for the weekend.
* Leaving Houghton on Friday, November 13th at staggered times to accommodate as many schedules as possible (until ~3:15PM).
* We'll be driving Tech Vans to Duluth, where we'll take in Friday night's game and then get some rest at the Best Western Downtown Motel in Duluth.
* On Saturday we'll take in various attractions around Duluth, then attend the Saturday Night game.
* Immediately after the game we'll travel back to Houghton.

Together with USG, the Misfits will be able to provide transportation, lodging, and tickets at the subsidized price of only $24. The lodging will be four to five people to a room with 2 full or queen size beds, so plan accordingly. We will provide as many air mattresses and blanket as we can, but don't count on us for this.

If you are interested in going on this trip, please contact me, Scott Yager (sryager@mtu.edu), as soon as possible to reserve your spot or to get more information. First come, first serve.

Trust me when I say this, THIS IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE that you and your soon-to-be friends will look back on for many years to come!

If there are any questions or concerns at all, please email, call, or stalk me and ask!!!

Duluth's Downtown Best Western ranks about 1/4 of a star above Houghton's Travelodge. So it's a 1/4 Star hotel.

I think I'm going to try to get a room at the place down by canal park, I don't want to stay at the best western.

Re: Michigan Tech 09-10 Season Thread: Let's go to Detroit. Twice.

well the 2 hotels on canal park are $100 and $129 a night...
I was thinking Comfort Suites, at $129, but not too far away is the Hampton Inn for $93, still on the canal park peninsula, so that would probably work.

Both are quality establishments.
