Michigan State's Eternal Optimist Thread, 2014-15 edition

Re: Michigan State's Eternal Optimist Thread, 2014-15 edition

Also, No Berry or Stenglein in the lineup again. I thought Anastos did that to send a message last Saturday but is there anything more to is? Perhaps I missed some injuries?

Well it feels great to go into break with a win and to score 6 whole entire goals, too!

I thought we played well at times and were sloppy other times. I think Clarkson, like us, is a little better than their record. They've just been snake bitten on offense like we have. Luckily, our offense chose tonight to bust out the guns. Even though we scored 3 PP goals, I was impressed with their PK.

Get by a beatable Ferris team in e GLI and then either a less beatable Michigan team or a much less beatable Tech squad and we'll be roarin' into the B1G slate.

It was pretty sloppy on both ends. I couldn't believe Clarkson's first goal. I don't even remember who passed it, but that was all caused by someone from State trying to pass across for Clarkson players right before the blue line instead of dumping it in. The turnover caused a quick two-on-one.

I was happy with the offense, though. Yeah, we benefited from a 5 minute major, but the power play actually did something which is nice to see.

Not sure about the Berry scratch. FSD just said it was a healthy scratch and left it at that. After two of our best games of the season though... Well... I can't say keep him out but it does raise some eyebrows.

I ended up watching this one on TV. Didn't look like the ribbon boards were used, probably waiting for the video board to get installed before hooking everything up. Did the graphics boards get completely taken down? Last I saw the advertisements were down but the actual screen was left.

Looking at the Munn page on Facebook, they're pretty much tearing everything down and installing new stuff in its place.

The old stuff was manufactured by Daktronics, and the new stuff is from some company I've never heard of. I assume all of those items can't communicate with each other.

I notice that our place is getting a new name as well (see background) :D

Looks good. I was skeptical about the center-hung video board, but I really like what I'm seeing.

So, it looks like we're getting ribbon boards, scoreboards in each corner and video above center ice. Who's going to solve the case of the missing "M"?

Oh man, I've wanted a center hung scoreboard ever since they scrapped the big green one nearly 15 years ago. I may just be romanticizing it because I was a child at the time and we pretty much never lost during those days, but whatever.

You might wanna buy a vowel, too. After all the spelling problems the football team had with their locker room we can't be having people walking into Unn Aren.

:) I think Mr. Campbell loaned it to Ann Arbor. I seem to recall recently there was an issue with an 'M' being spray-painted green.

I'm liking what I see from the pictures. Doesn't look like they'll be putting a scoreboard on the center ice boards, at least from the first pictures that are being posted. Also not really sure why we're adding four scoreboards, that feels like overkill. Though, that could be why there's no scoreboard on center ice, because that would be eight scoreboards and insane overkill. Also wondering where they're going to put up the NCAA/conference/GLI banners.

Pretty good performance. I think we can take the championship. Hildebrand and our defense were great, tonight.

It would be so awesome to start the 2nd half with a GLI title.

Still no Berry. Very curious.

Very odd. But you know what? We're 2-0-1-1 since he's been benched, so as long as it's working I ain't complaining.

My seats for tonight were actually front row behind the net, some of you might've seen me on TV. That game was very close to being 3-0 or 0-0 (assuming no ENG), because Darnell's goal and the shot right before it that dinged off the post were almost the exact same. Put the first one in or the second one off the pipe and it's a totally different game.

Not our best game of the year, not even our best game against Ferris, but it was still good and a mark of improvement. Wish I was going tomorrow but I'll be watching on TV. It would be awesome to be able to put Michigan State on that GLI banner again for the first time in five years.

I could not see the game but i could probably ignore the games following a Friday night win and save some time because this program will never win twice in a weekend for the rest of time.

Re: Michigan State's Eternal Optimist Thread, 2014-15 edition

Well, we swept PSU at home last year. If we count that and somehow go .500 in other games we'll get third place!

I wonder when/if we'll see Berry again. That was the first time we looked like the stagnant MSU since he'd been out, but we still didn't do awful.

Re: Michigan State's Eternal Optimist Thread, 2014-15 edition

Monday night the team came out playing flat, tentative and (for some reason) out of sync. Michigan played with more fire for sure. It looked better as the game progressed but that's not good enough.

Re: Michigan State's Eternal Optimist Thread, 2014-15 edition

Swung by Munn just now, ribbon boards were on doing some testing, video board was lowered to the ice but off.

The ribbon board will basically be like the one at Breslin, same software and everything. Stats shown will be SOG, Faceoffs, Powerplays, and penalty minutes. The three championship banners have been moved to the east side of the building. Hope they hang the CCHA and GLI banners but I didn't see any.

New scoreboards are bigger, mainly because the penalties area is giant compared to the old ones.

Game with no meaning is on FSD+. That's on if you don't want to have to watch UM-UM from the corner on BTN.
