Michigan State's Eternal Optimist Thread, 2014-15 edition

Re: Michigan State's Eternal Optimist Thread, 2014-15 edition

We did it!!! We did it!!!

Hildy gets first, second, and third stars. He also gets my just now created 0th star, as regular season MVP. This team would not be where they are without him, and he just pulled off one of the best performances I've ever seen. Probably second best I've seen from a Spartan behind Lerg against BC in 2007.

It was an amazing performance and it feels awesome to pay michigan back for last night.

That said, I wasn't terribly impressed with our compete level for most of the weekend. Michigan looked far faster than us and I feel like that has not really been a problem at all this year before this weekend.

Nevertheless, I think we have earned the bye and if PSU pulls one out for us, we can actually claim a regular season title. Amazing.

I didn't see Friday's game, but I would have to agree with you based on how some of the stars played tonight. MacEachern hustled but didn't really flash at all tonight, though he wasn't given many chances. Berry was making boneheaded moves all night and Haag was playing in slow motion. I don't think he broke out of a light skate the entire night. It was also concerning we were absolutely dominated for about 80% of that game. But, those will be issues to clear up during the week. For now, enjoy the bye and hope PSU can start to match the Gophers.

Re: Michigan State's Eternal Optimist Thread, 2014-15 edition

Probably a 90% chance we end up facing the Wolverines for a 6th time. If I remember correctly the last time we played them that many times the season ending in a not so nice fashion at Munn.

Safe to say the level of play this weekend will not be enough. Unless Hildy plays the best game of his life for the second game in a row we're going to need more pressure. I don't know the records when one team doubles the shots of the other, but I'm going to presume we have one of the few wins on the list. The good news is the Joe has been home to three of our best games this year, even if one of those was a loss to Michigan.

Really hope the basketball schedule ends up working around hockey. It would be great to have the Joe at least semi-full of Spartan fans.

Basketball is 12:40 on Friday. That should be favorable to getting some State fans in the building at night, especially if it's Michigan.

Can your goalie, like, leave already? He really is a pain in the ***.

He's having too much fun. With all of the slutty sparty co-eds and all playing beauty-parlor. The kid has a mop! The CoY got him to laugh when he was taping his stick pre-game on Saturday. He came out to the empty Handicap seating about 55 minutes prior to puck-drop and the CoY saw him. At first we started with chanting at him but then the "ringleader" of the CoY took the large poster of spartys female hockey goalie and held it behind him. It looked almost exactly like him.

That's hilarious!

Almost as funny as losing a first round bye on senior night at home to a team that put up less than 20 shots!

There are guys in black warmup jackets carrying pro organization logo binders and large data plans hanging out in the corner sections who might be trying to make that happen.

For the record, "Children of Yost" is, literally, the dumbest name for any student section in any collegiate sport ever.

I watched the Saturday game again on my DVR before hitting the haystack last night. Hildebrand is god - at least he was during that third period. One of the best goaltending performances I've seen in a while.

There's a Stephen King novel title in there isn't there? Children of the Porn?

Totally unrelated, but does anybody know what song Ron Boyd used during his senior skate? It was some Rockabilly awesome thing.

In about 10 hours we'll know who our opponent is.

I'd say about a 95% chance it's Michigan.

Purdue basketball used to be the Gene Pool when Keady was their coach. I think that's worse.

I wanna feel depressed about this loss, but I cant. Despite the awful start to the season, this team played exceptional hockey after the trip to Happy Valley. I thought at best we could finish 3rd, instead we stole a win at Yost on the final day to steal their title, gave Minnesota their first and only home loss in conference history, and reeled off 3 straight conference home sweeps for the first time in at least 15 years.

Disappointing end, but there's a lot to celebrate this season.

More to say later, but for now I'll say it's gonna be a long seven months, and Go Gophers.

Oy.

Anyways, next year will be the first time in a long time where I can say I'm really going to be interested in seeing all four GLI games. Pearson v. you semifinal will be a preview of an annual B1G conference series in 2016-17 in Mel's first season back in A2.
