Michigan State vs. Michigan - Can't we all just get along?

Re: Michigan State vs. Michigan - Can't we all just get along?

Wow, I seem to be disturbed easily these days:

I'm not sure what is more disturbing:

WINNER >> 1) a fan so obsesses with hating a program that they know each recruiting class in great detail?

2) a fan who SAYS they are so obsessed with a program that they DON'T know the same details....

Just because :)
Also, if I haven't mentioned this in the last couple days: FYM.

BTW, you think my naming those 5 '07 freshmen requires intense knowledge of the program? You're the big school 75 miles down the road. Why wouldn't I know a little about them? :D

(and ows- if you ask me, since only 60% of that recruiting class is still here, well, it goes from great to just well above average)
Yeah I thought about that after my first remark last night. But I'm going assume, safely, that (s)he's not smart enough to have taken that into account, either. I just COULDN'T, therefore, let his/her statement go without a challenge.

Having been to both Houghton and Anchorage...I'd rather live in Anchorage. Actually, I'd rather not live in either of those places, but I wouldn't mind visiting Anchorage again.

Oh, and [insert rude comment about Sparty here.]

Anchorage just got 8 inches of snow. Besides, Mr. Playgirl of the month is looking for a house there. But, you can get good pasties in Houghton. Just sayin'.

Lets put it this way, I barely know the names of a handful of players at MSU. But I'm sure I don't hate MSU as much as you hate UM, so I guess it's fair.

Normally, if I hate something that bad, I usually ignore them. Like I know nothing about OSU, Florida, USC, etc- in football, except for the overwhelming info coming in about the various star players. And I barely even know MSU even has a football team. I think the most I know about MSU sports is that your AD is the former hockey coach. And the current coach is from another Michigan school, right? Something like that?

Just sayin. ;)

I commend you on the depth of your ignoring ;)

Ron Mason - indeed the former hockey coach, with an NCAA record 924 career victories - retired from the AD's job in 2008. Rick Comley came from Northern Michigan, where his 1991 team won the NCAA championship.

Now remind me - where do your coaches come from? :D

If you are talking hockey.. specifically... Berenson was a former U-M and NHL star, then NHL coach, then U-M coach. The current A.D. is a Michigan grad.

Don't forget the Lake State NAIA championship in the 70's!

Hi ^5 alfa!

Thanks for taking care of my light work for me. What most spartys don't seem to realize is that the Lil'Brother c omments stem from them and not their athletic program. ows is so worried about what Michigan (Big'Brother) is doing that he doesn't know everything about his team sparty (Lil'Brother). It just plays to our benefit that they aren't very good.

Yeah, that's it :D It has nothing to do with tweaking you for your brain farts.

I paid a little attention during the John L. Smith era- not because he was a complete disaster at MSU, but I met him while he was coach at Idaho, and then met him again at an Idaho vs. Youngstown State D-1AA playoff game. It's the reason MSU played Idaho a few years ago.

GO VANDALS!

I'm telling ya, ignorance is bliss.

I never worry about how good or bad your recruiting season is. And it lets fans like me get over last year's "incident" pretty quickly. (i'm perfectly fine with whoever it is playing again)

Even better, I get to forget terrible weekends like last weekend. Wait, did we play someone last week? :D

I will say one thing- full credit to MSU- they have the only acedemic program to study wine making in the state. I *almost* signed up for some classes a number of years ago. The extensions have made growing grapes in my back yard pretty decent. (ok- can someone link me to a smily that looks drunk? Or is drinking a glass of wine?) No joke.

Re: Michigan State vs. Michigan - Can't we all just get along?

Hey fellas how about some hockey chatter?

I am concerned about the number of penalties MSU is taking so far. Most of them have been hustle plays, but even those can come back and bite you in the rear.

Michigan's PP is about as anemic as MSU's was last season. We all know how well Berenson's teams spread the ice and move the puck through the prime passing lanes...MSU would be wise not to wake a sleeping giant this weekend.

I think MSU has been the better team thus far, however experience plays a major role in rivalry games, and with half the roster making their first trip to Yost I think things could get ugly Friday night.

I didn't consider the inexperience factor but good point. U-M has a handful of dressed freshmen (not quite our 7), so those kids would be dealing with the same thing.
Actually doesn't it look like the biggest difference-maker in this series could be our goaltenders? I'm just comparing Palmisano stopping all 31 shots last Friday vs. a pretty good UNO vs. Hogan having a horrible weekend.
That's why i really believe MSU can win at least one of these.

But, I digress. The topic was about "getting along" and so far, happily the answer is still no.

Sorry, I should have applied the sarcasm filter. Red Berenson, St. Louis Blues, six goals in a game in 1968, etc., etc. Heckuva player back in the day. My mom put in two years at U-M (61-63) and said she had a crush on him.

As for the AD position, it will be interesting to see who succeeds Bill Martin and whether that person is a hockey person. The new MSU AD has made it clear through many actions that football and basketball are much further up the totem pole than hockey. It would be a shame for the sport in general if U-M were to go that same route.

Re: Michigan State vs. Michigan - Can't we all just get along?

I dont think goaltending will be a difference, but it will be an interesting storyline.I think the experience factor in terms of the rivalry is only an issue at Yost on Friday. The Munn branch of the MSU library will be hit-or-miss.

I'm sure our 20 year-old freshmen contingent has experienced somewhat Yost-like atmospherics before. Intensity as I used the term applied to the extra-hard hitting involved.

Palmisano stopping shots will be a bigger factor than however many "F... Y.. State" chants rain down.
