Michigan State 2009-2010

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

If anybody can get a hold of a State News today, there is a section on the past decade of MSU sports and the hockey program gets a nice number of acknowledgements including our NC win over BC ranking #1 in the "Best Game" list. Considering it's over an entire decade and involves all MSU sports, that's pretty nice. Quite a few alumni mentioned here and there as well, particularly Ryan Miller and Jeff Lerg.

Sweet - I'll grab one at the Hannah center tonight. Hockey seems to be the only sport the SNooze covers with a semblance of authority. (at least not wildly apocryphal :D ).

There's not much much substance involved anywhere and the writer selecting "Best Male Athlete" took up half of Ryan Miller's little section talking about how he doesn't follow or know anything about hockey but it was neat seeing some players and moments getting some acknowledgment. There is an All-Decade Hockey Team as well that took me back some years.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

This whole football thing is actually pretty scary and I would bet not isolated to MSU or UM. Heck, MN basketball has one or two players either going to, or in jail for shoplifting at the Mall Of America. Ouch...

Did you just compare taking a coat to breaking into someone's house and beating up random people?

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

A mixed bag from tonight's 3-2 overtime win. Of course, the 'W' is the most important thing not only for the morale, it's a nice thing to have 1 game away from long break.

Good:
Like the NMU game, MSU was able to come back - but ... in the 3rd? Down 2? I understand you gotta consider who you're up against, but what a boost to the psyche this is.

Like the rest of the team, Bobby Jarosz ALSO came up huge when it mattered. In the third period - yes - but none bigger than the save in overtime on BGSU's 933rd odd-man rush of the game. Proving once again found a great tandem.

MSU came together despite the loss of one of their most physical players to a shoulder injury. Rowe, Tropp and Grant had something good going tonight.

Bad:
Speaking of that - Hayes will be out for awhile. It's the first significant in-season injury the Spartans have sufferred.

The powerplay remains anemic - 0-4, and a 2:20 stretch that included a 5-on-3. 4 shots on goal in 8:20 of powerplay time.

Getting out-hit by Bowling Green for the first two periods is inexcusable. MSU needed to be the one dictating the play, not the other way around.

Turnovers (mostly neutral zone) really sounded bad and MSU could've easily had a bigger hill to climb. Far too many 3-on-2's and 2-on-1's as a result.

Falcons' first goal came 3 seconds before penalty expired. Guys, gotta be absolutely on top of your clearing pass - sharp and confident. Grassi wasn't.

Finally, I don't agree that you're stategy against EVERY team is just to "throw the puck at the net." Against a very "green" BGSU team State has work the puck for some good shots. How does a young MSU team learn anything offensively, otherwise? How many times did MSU miss the net? It's one reason why night after night it seems we get off about 40 shots, but only 25 count.

The boys do seem to make a lot of good and some mediocre tenders look brilliant. They're in good company though. The boys down the road, playing at the Joe, have been doing the same thing for years.

Wells, kudos to those guys. Better than this:

I don't want to see another Berenson reference from Gomer. This one is pretty fresh.
A: He didn't sexually assault anyone right? (AA Prosecutor must not be MSU grad.)

B: He had the decency to **** outdoors unlike this "leader and the best" who just whipped it out and let it flow on the dance floor a few years ago. At least our players are house trained FFS. You also had Larry Harrison that year who was busted swinging his wang around by an undercover officer after 16 other instances of exposing himself in public.

C: Not only did Berenson UIP, HE UIPeed ON THE PUBLIC LIBRARY. C'mon man!

Your stuff don't stink? Do you really wanna see how deep it stacks up there in AA?

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Alright, i listened to the first 45 minutes of this game until i had to leave for Mac's bar with a couple friends and was very frustrated at that point and was pretty glad to leave. I had a great night but was under the impression the entire time that we most likely dropped one to BG but i got over it. But then i come on here and see we pulled it out and it was a huge relief. Probably got lucky and i bet BG deserved it. We better play a more complete game tomorrow night because 6 points are sorely needed.

Again, we need to find a way to start clicking on offense again. Gotta bury our chances.

Umm, no.. Just an example of problems within the programs all over, and these are just the ones we actually hear about. Of course I forgot to send my post to you first for approval. How silly of me.

Would have been so easy for me to shut off the radio last night after that second BGSU goal. So frustrating. Very tempting.

Oh yes, the approval thing. I guess that means no mention of Clem Haskins then :D

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Tropp hat trick tonight. Way to go!

CBS College Sports All Access finally agreed to refund my subscription as they appear to no longer be streaming home hockey games live anymore. Since I renewed, only two home games were streamed live.

The BTN live stream is cheaper ($2.99 a game vs $79.99 a season) and in HD resolution, so that's what I'll be using from now on. With 13 home games not on FSN or BTN, that will be only $38.87 plus a little more if the playoff games are not carried on TV.

FWIW, game will be rebroadcast on B10 network at 6:30 Sunday.

Well I am canceling my All Access too. Now, please help a poor fella out and give me a link to the BTN access. I tried to find it tonight but was unable to. (This after I got a response from All Access that the reason I couldn't connect was that they weren't carrying it... bastads...)

Clem who? :p

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

If at the beginning of the year you had told me that at Christmas:
MSU would be in second place even though Leveille, Sucharski and Gazley would have a combined total of 9 goals
Michigan and Notre Dame would be in 10th and 6th place with records below .500

I'd have said "What have you been smoking?" and would have placed a big losing bet.

I'm thinking at least one (maybe two) of those guys need to really need to get it into another gear. Perlini looked reeeeally good Saturday.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

While on the Miller subject, I understand he and Justin Abdelkader will be signing autographs somewhere on the concourse sometime before the MSU/MTU game next Tuesday. Whether they are in Red Wings sweaters or Green&White is unknown. Details (presumably) to follow.
