Michigan State 2009-2010

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Well i had a dream last night that we were losing some kind of triple team game against Michigan and Miami 6 to 2 to 1 after the first period. Michigan had 6 and we had 1 so hopefully it's not some kind of prophecy for the rest of the year.

Also, does anybody think Jarosz will get a game this weekend? My bet is on saturday.

I also think Wisconsin might be one of the tougher games of the year so far.

Oh also, our scoring has been down the last few games so i think it's imporant that we get back to putting up some pretty good numbers.

Whoa there lay off the cranberry relish :D! Sure why not get Jarosz in a game this weekend. I'm even looking forward to hearing the alumni band and of course a Thanksgiving weekend power play special featuring some rejuvenated combinations.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I don't believe i saw a single article in the LSJ this morning about tonight's game or this weekend. Probably kinda hard to rejeuvenate fan interest and up attendence when most people don't even know there are games being played.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Alright, well before everyone comes on and laments how miserable we played i am gonna get in my say that we didn't actually play that bad overall. We had bad lapses and periods of time where we did not but i thought the first 10 minutes and the first half of the third period we were great while an equal amount of time we looked bad, and the rest was even. I knew Wisconsin was going to be a really tough team and they proved to be just that.

Palmisano had an off night. Their 3rd and 4th goals were bad goals. I am not gonna pin the wraparound on Krug even though he turned it over because the Wisky player made a great play. You could say Krug should have used the net better but but Palmy was not ready. He was on the post like he is su pposed to be but he wasn't ready. He clearly did not expect the Wisconsin player to end up with the puck like that. I think next time he will have his stick down and five hole shut. The 4th goal i don't need to explain. Eh, even lerg did that once last year.

I also think many of the bounces just didn't go our way. It was one of those nights and it wasn't for lack of effort. We had a few letdowns and Wisconsin took advantage.

We need to start capitalizing on our chances more. I feel we could have had atleast another 2-3 goals with some of the missed chances.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Well Minnesota got waxed pretty hard tonight at Yost. I bet i can guarantee it won't come as easy for us tomorrow night.

Another positive from this game is we finally saw some life from our power play. We just have to BURY OUR CHANCES (we had a million of them) and it could be a different game.

That is a fast-skating team. But struggling to get back wasn't why that score was so lopsided - just ton of really awful turnovers.

I think Palmisano is an awesome goalie... but last night's mistakes weren't the first time he has done that sort of thing. He almost had a turnover like that cost us earlier in the game. And I don't know what it is... but he goes into slow-motion periodically when he gets rattled. That's what that wraparound and the turnover both were... slow-motion play. No sense of urgency sometimes.

He works out that kink and we are going to be sitting pretty the rest of this year and the next two.

What I loved most about last night was the fight the team brought back out onto the ice to start the 3rd while down, what, 3 goals? We looked like the team that we saw frequently earlier this year but that had taken a break lately. Good to know it is still there. That it looks like we have leaders that can bring it to the front. Let's just hope it finds itself for good and brings it hard every night!

Down 5-2, getting that goal 15 seconds into the 3rd period and then pinning them in over the next two minutes I really thought State could come back on these guys. I also admired our fortitude last night. Very difficult to explain the gaffes that followed. But I KNOW we're close to being able to play with anybody.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I think tonights game is very important. Clearly, Minnesota is struggling and we are supposed to handle them rather easily but i really feel like that will not be the case. I read the recap of last night's game at Yost and Berenson pretty much said that last night was even, it's just that UofM's chances happened to find the back of the net. It seems the fans have mailed in it for now but i think tonight's game will be another battle. Hopefully we can avoid the costly mistakes that doomed us last night.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Sounds like the Wisconsin journalists weren't to impressed with the ragged Wisconsin effort tonight either.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Man, I hope we don't get rolled by Northern next week. This is a bad, bad time to lose three-in-a-row.

Super-duper grumble.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

This one is not going to sit well with me. We did not play well. I believe Minnesota actually looked great. It seemed like all passes were tape to tape, they moved the puck up ice as a team, they ALL backchecked and would get back, which is why we couldn't generate anything on any sort of odd-mad rush or after carrying the puck into the zone. Their backup goalie, who has been terrible, was great. They supported the puck so when a loose one would come bouncing, they were there to get it. Nothing that their fans here have been saying for the entire season was there tonight and that is perhaps what is most frustrating. I think Minnesota played the most fundamentally sound team game i have seen at Munn this season. It just seemed like they made so few mistakes.

We made stupid mistakes: Bad passes, missed passes, chips to open ice where the nearest player was a gopher, turnovers, miserable powerplays. We generated almost no offense in the third period except for the 6 on 5 at the end. Bad, bad game.

We are officially in a slump. And it won't get any easier because next is up at Marquette and we really do not play well up there.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Kinda the same story as last night, right?
We get a lot of chances, just couldn't bury it. And a freshman mistake in our zone ends up in the net. And changes the complexion of the game.

Yes, Minnesota meant business tonight after getting embarassed on Friday.
No, we weren't as crisp in the offensive zone as we have been.
But please be encouraged by a few things - Palmisano really got back on his game when his confidence could have been rocked from being pulled last night. We skated well, ran a pretty good forecheck at times, got the puck on net - a lot, and we once again stayed out of the penalty box.

And yes there are costly mistakes. But maybe that lazy breakout pass up the middle of the ice doesn't get made anymore. Maybe that stolen puck behind our net doesn't happen anymore. Playing against the teams we have the last three weeks only makes us better.

Most importantly, lost no ground. Going into December MSU still sits in 2nd place in the CCHA. At the same time, this team is waaay more competitive than this time last year.

Did someone in Green and White mention how Michigan is "floundering" a few weeks back? Man, sometimes karma is a bite. :p

That was FOUNDERING, son. Someone else had Floundering.
For Floundering, see definition 5A - State forwards moving around the crease trying to get a blade on a loose puck in front of a gaping Minnesota/Wisconsin net.

Troll :D

Should be an interesting series coming up in MQT next weekend? I like this series coming up. MSU has been a totally different team, NMU might not be playing as good as they could...... HMMM

Safe travels to MQT.

LETS GO CATS!!!!

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Well after some time to think about it, i am not as frustrated as i was last night. Minnesota is obviously quite talented and i think they definetely brought it together for a night.

But like Allen said, bad time for a series at Northern. I am not sure what it is, be it either the big ice or the way northern and their fans get up for us, but we struggle a lot up there. I have a very hard time seeing us getting a sweep but it would not feel very surprising for the opposite to happen.

Another issue is that our scoring has been very lacking for the past few weeks. It shouldn't be a surprise that once our powerplay went dry, we stopped winning games. And Stewart tends to be a wall against us so i think we are going to need to get some bounces.

Does anybody find it a little bit concerning that Bowling green put 6 up on ND this past weekend, all 5X5 and we could only manage a meager 2 overall while serverely lacking in actual good scoring chances? Is BG pulling it together? Probably just in time to play us.

Notre Dame played their best two games defensively against MSU, and one of their better games offensively last Sunday. We then followed that up by playing like frozen dog 5h!t for the better part of 125 minutes this weekend. While BG looks more like a "team" than they have for the better parts of most of the last few seasons, I wouldn't read any more into their performance than that. We've been so friggin inconsistent all year. Perhaps MSU has just stumbled into a little bit of that over the last couple of weeks. If the Spartans play like they had been playing most of the season, you'll handle BG. If you half-*** is like Notre Dame did, you might be feeling like I feel now having left 2 points on the table, and having to go to OT both nights for the privilege.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Did anyone happen to fork over the $7 to see the streaming video of tonight's game?

If so, how'd it look?
