Michigan State 2009-2010

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Can you elaborate? Not being snarky, just curious as to what you've heard.

Specifically, kids up front complaining about how blueliners handled themselves on Friday. More I cannot say, owing to an understanding I need to abide by.
I must say however I was struck by how the 6 players on the ice at end of Saturday's game huddled together with Hogan. U-M will be alright.

Good job by the Spartans this weekend (and all year, really). Remember I tried to tell you guys last year was a blip and not the start of a trend. Nothing's been decided yet, but MSU looks pretty darn good so far. If I wasn't so worried about playing better this afternoon I'd really be worried about it later on this week.

Thanks IHF - I think I remember.

Sparty is 3-1 over U-M and Miami so far.

Respect in the rankings this week?

We can't let down, though. The previous/next 6 games:

U-M: win
U-M: win
Notre Dame
Notre Dame
Minnesota
Wisconsin

WOW, can anyone in the country boast a tougher 6 game stretch in their schedule? Let's see how the young Spartans respond after a huge SWEEP of that other school down the road with ND and the WCHA...

So, who's going to Ft. Wayne on Sunday?

(The above statement makes my head want to explode. Sunday? Fort Wayne? What?!)

You're going to hear that kind of stuff from/about any team that is struggling to get a win and having the kind of talent that MI has. I would never read too much into that kind of thing, whether it's true or not. You will probably hear this about MN, Vermont, or any program that is usually at or near the top on any given season.

The next time these two team meet, it will be epic... in a good way. Pride is something that can drive the best, and these programs fit that bill.

Spartans need to continue to grow, continue to skate better, get some of our marquee players scoring more AND get the power play back to what it was a couple weeks ago if they hope to match up well with the Wolverines next time around. This weekend truly could have gone either way.
I really, really think our goaltending made the difference.

I think michigan has an amazing penalty kill. I think our pp will get back on track but i think the pk is one thing that michigan does very well. Forunately for us though, their powerplay is pretty much useless. I think i remember pretty much only feeling threatened during the last one they had yesterday.

UM's PK is tenacious. It's actually fun to watch how they attack the puck. It helps that most of their penalty killers are pretty big so they fill up the lanes well. And, yes, we were really helped by their lack of a power play.

Their 5-on-3 didn't look so hot either.

If you take the USCHO blog as gospel, I guess MSU will jump to #5 in the rankings this week:D Nice for an ego massage.

I can see that. Both goals Saturday night were the result of giveaways in the defensive zone. But then their forwards kinda hung em out to dry on those plays.

It was nice to see a full and often loud building. The Thursday game against Omaha I was able to give away some tickets out front, first time in a few years. That Friday I was able to give mine away to a co-worker.

What a great weekend of hockey. It's getting fun again.

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I just realized that we now have a curse upon us once again. That is the curse that every loss will be painful and disappointing again. There are now no such thing as moral victories anymore.

Losses will neither be painful nor disappointing. Losses, as they have been already this season, will be an opportunity for this team to learn what it feels like and to say, "We want to do this as little as possible". Chin up, Mr. Pirate :)

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

Ok guys...i took Monday off from thinking about hockey. I was thinking that maybe this emotional weekend was making me get too anxious. I was wrong. I am just as fired up for MSU vs. ND this weekend.

I firmly believe that we owe our early success so far this season to the third and fourth lines. The reason we held Miami's offense in check and Michigan to virtual impotence was the direct result of constant pressure in the neutral zone.

UM looked like MSU last season, as they were more than happy to settle for just getting the puck deep to see what happens. This team is operating the neutral zone trap to **** near perfection.

Now its time to focus on basketball for a few hours.

And Drew Palmisano :D
There wasn't a line that frustrated Michigan more than the 4th line this weekend, tho. And how about goals from 13 different players so far.

Which brings to mind this gem from Western College Hockey Blog:
"Michigan State: The Spartans have proved they're one of the best teams in the country so far. It's quite an amazing turnaround, and it's impressive how they're doing it with so litlte (sic) depth."
yeeeaaaah

Now imagine what happens when Leveille gets going ...

So, I'm fiddling around with the ticketing website, and I'm not liking what I'm seeing for the game on Thursday whatsoever. I mean, sure, it's Thursday, so the draw will take a hit anyway, but there's a ton of availability.

He're hoping we get a couple of good plugs at the basketball game tonight.

An update: The same 12 connecting tickets that were available in section L on Monday night are still available at this very moment.

Attendance-wise, right now, it looks like it's going to be another rough Thursday. :(

Re: Michigan State 2009-2010

I think many people will buy at the door and it will be a fine turnout. I don't think there are many season ticket holders anymore so a much larger number of seats appear available.

I've decided to resign myself to the fact that due to age demographics, the generation turnover, the economy and lingering bitterness toward the Comley regime it's going to be this way for awhile folks. Just have to make the best of it.

Munn Arena ... raise the roof :)

All I know is, the next time I hear someone call Comley an a-hole, like I did last Saturday night, I won't be so slow to react

Notre Dame - the best opponent so far?

Notre Dame - the best opponent so far?

Rick Comley:

"You know it was a good game for us. That might have been the toughest team to play against for our young guys so far. Because they are veteran, they have been through tournament runs, they are older, and they are strong. Last year we could not have played with them and I thought we got better as the game went on. They took the two five-minute penalties, but again I thought we reacted well and some players struggle with the lack of space and tonight was not as free-wheeling. We are coming off a weekend of free will hockey, and then you go into tonight. So, a pretty good situation for our young team."
