Michigan Hockey...

So much for a good start. Man, this team has some serious mental problems. How can you collapse *that* much??? Nobody stepped up to stop the fall- everyone just let it happen. Including Jake- he should have been able to deal with some of those clean looks- but clearly everyone knows where to shoot.

But for the team to just give up and dump the puck everywhere... That was just sad and frustrating..

Unbelievable. I watched until it was 4-1, figured it was over and switched to the Packers game. Michigan just dominated last night and the first half of tonight. Looked like a much better team than MSU. It's amazing how good this team can look when the effort is there, and how bad when the intensity turns off.

I was feeling good after Friday and then up 4-1 on Saturday. I thought maybe World Juniors break did us some good and we'd get this season turned around.

Then things happened and I remembered how good this team is at not holding onto a lead.
Up 4 -2 in the 2nd at Wisconsin, lose 5-4
Up 2-0 in the 3rd vs UMass, give up 6 unanswered, lose 6-3
Up 3-1 with seconds left in the 2nd vs Minnesota, lose 4-3

This team needs to learn to play every minute of the game. I wonder how Saturday would have turned out if Brindley had played. Any news on why he didn't play? I couldn't keep track of all the penalties Friday, so was wondering if that's why we didn't see him Saturday.

Can't bring myself to read anything about the game, but given it was a total team meltdown, I can't see Brindley fixing the game. Maybe he's the leader the team needed to keep them in the game after that 2nd MSU goal. That bad turnover seemed to spread to the whole team....

I don't know that Brindley could have fixed the game, but he's one of those players that plays hard every shift both ends of the ice and hopefully can inspire teammates to do the same.

A split with MSU is as much as I was hoping for with this team, just the size of the beatdown Friday made me hope for more.

Wisconsin visits this week. They just came off a bye and the week before that a win and a tie with ... Lindenwood. So, while Wisconsin is strong this season and took both games from us in Madison, they can be beat. I'm predicting a split this weekend, but hoping for more.

Just looked at the rest of the schedule and realized there's only 5 home games left on the season and if we don't start getting a lot of wins there won't be any home playoff games either. Conference rankings show us 8 points behind current 4th place Minnesota.

Well, we certainly can play and beat anyone. I can only imagine how good we could be if we controlled the puck over the entire rink for all lines.

And... those are the games that really makes me question Coach Naurato and the lack of real defensive organization. One goal was a horrible turnover in front of the net, one goal was the PK not hearing each other leaving the player a clean shot to the net, and the last one was one D covering two people- and he did neither. How can a 5 on 5 be that bad on D?

I can't see us getting far enough ahead in the standings to get a home ice game in the B1G, let alone into the tournament.

When was the last time Mich put 2 games back to back and looked like they belonged. The 2nd game with Wisc a strong start but got caught out with W doing what looked like the old Swedish Torpedo play on the turn-over. The D struggling to get back and cover the trailing man. Jake B. was not as sharp Sat as he was on Fri. and it showed. The team cannot split the rest of the season or there is no way for post season fun.

I assume we're discounting Lindenwood and Stonehill? Then the answer is, not this season. A win and a tie vs. a not good OSU team at home. Maybe they can pull off the road sweep this weekend. If not, things aren't looking to great.
This weekend vs. Wisconsin was looking very promising, but we need 60 minutes(+ with the OT Saturday) out of this team.

A winning streak! Hope this really means we've turned a corner, but it's hard to tell.

I am ecstatic with last weekend's sweep. However, 2 wins against a Buckeye team that only has 1 conference win this season can't be considered an indicator.

Let's see how we do against B1G 1st place MSU this weekend. We know we can skate with them after spliting the series last time. Honestly, we looked like the better team for a good chunk of that loss too. 60 minutes, both nights, let's go!

Exactly. We looked like clearly the better team for 4 1/2 periods last time. Play hard, stay composed, and take two big wins this weekend.

Presumably, the lack of recent posts reflects what everyone thinks of the teams play….

16th in the pairwise is not an exciting place to be.

I did get excited after Friday's win and looking at the conference schedule. The 2 teams ahead of us in the conference only have their games vs. Michigan left and a buy the other week. If we take 11 of the 12 points left available to us we could finish as high as 3rd in the conference. Can we sweep ND at home? Maybe. Can we get at least 5 on the road from Minnesota? Less likely but it's hockey and anything is possible.

This weekend is huge. 4 or more points should get us home ice. Should have swept at PSU, then securing home ice would be easier.

I will be very sad if this weekend are the last 2 games at Yost this season.

This season seems like Groundhog Day. Every year Mich. it seems, sits on the bubble and finds itself needing to mount a run or win the B Ten final. I wonder what is needed to get them in a better place. Better conditioning so we don't have the 3rd period collapse. That means both physically and mentally.
To make the run and get into the NCAA playoffs will also leave the 'gas tank' pretty well used up not much energy left to go very far against tougher teams.

Hoping for the best but not going to hold my breath. I used to get a 'funk' at the end of the season when they would be eliminated, but not so the last few years. Now I just move on to other things. I wish it wasn't so.

At this point, I rely on the past. Remembering that Mel took a team to the FF in his first season only to struggle the second. Hopefully this is dealt with between Coach N’s second and third seasons.

But I totally fear that we have zero D development, so…. The frustration seeing these guys play at such a high and low level in the same freaking game is tough to deal with.

There exists the very real scenario where Michigan finishes closer to last place in the conference than first. That's only happened three times since 1986-87.

A weekend sweep. With a likely return visit for the Irish in a few weeks. Although, theoretically we could take enough points at Minnesota next weekend to finish 3rd in the B1G.
