Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

Re: Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

Quite the homeriffic post there.

He was pushed. It's pretty clear-cut. Again, for the record, I don't give two craps about either of these teams.

Yes, the defenseman on his right pushes him, causing him to slide to the right. Your "objectivity" has cracked the case .

I obviously don't think that was the D-man's intention, that is just stupidity. The result is the same, though. And Hunyuk reacted poorly. Do I think that encompasses Hunyuk as a player? No. This instance, however, was bad form.

Not worth arguing over by the looks of things.

Re: Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

Tonight was a very close game by two evenly matched teams. My one complaint was the 5:00 game misconduct call at the end of the 3rd. That was a bad call. NMU still fought it off. However, had it just been a 2:00 penalty like it should have been, things could have gone another way. The goal they called off was justified, but that penalty was not. There were some other questionable, and outright missed, calls... but that took the cake. I was right behind the NMU bench and you can believe Walt was in that Ref's ear.

Anyways, a tie (except for the CCHA). NMU finished a lot better on this series than most expected. Anticipate NMU climbing into the top 10 and UofM dropping down once the polls come out.

Re: Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

It didn't look that way tonight. These teams are very close competitively, although Hunwick is an excellent goalie.

He is... but he was making a few very obvious mistakes. One of which #17 exploited on both of his goals against him.

I agree it was not a 5 minute call.

It appeared to me shoulder to head. I did notice the same ref that called it continually talk to Seckel about what looked to be the after the whistle scrums etc. that involved him. I am hoping that the hit was not a "last straw" thing between the ref and him.

Re: Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

I hate to say this. nice weekend Northern.

Wow. Thanks, huskyfan! :) May your team have the same fortune against this same opponent. I hope to see a GLI Championship banner for you.

/equally as hard to say, had to return the favor.

Re: Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

I dont know if anyone noticed but Seckel got a DQ tonight...I thought he just got a game misconduct...guess I was wrong.

Re: Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

Thanks for addressing that point that nobody made. Super helpful.

Even if it wasn't his intent to run the goalie, it's still his fault for failing to be in control while taking a hard line to the net without the puck. Very much like most high sticking calls, where you may not be trying to hit the guy, but you're still at fault for recklessly having your stick up high. The ref would have been justified in calling goaltender interference on that play, though they only do it sporadically in that kind of situation.

So Hunwick should be allowed a free blocker to the face? Please. If the exact same play happened on the other end of the ice, I'm sure you'd feel differently.

I believe the intent of the new rule is that *any* contact to the head, especially if deemed intentional, is an auto 5 minute gamer and up to the officiating to decide if it should be a misconduct or disqualification. There is no debating whether it should have been a 2 or 5 minute call. The rest is officiating discretion- which IMO he ruled to be intentional. Lynch had to be helped to the bench IIRC, face bleeding.

Interesting weekend. Michigan lost their composure, got bloodied and beaten up (like their fellow footballers) and have to re-group before Ferris comes in Thursday. Props to the NMU Cats and their fans. Good 4 points for you. We'll see you in February at Yost.

So how can it be deemed "intentional" contact to the head if the initial contact is shoulder to shoulder? The intent would have been to contact the shoulder. Now, to be fair to referees John Philo and Todd Lacina, they see the game and make the call in real time. They don't have the luxury of replay or slo-mo hi-def frame by frame analysis. Where I am bothered is in the NCAA process. If the referee had only given a minor penalty, or no penalty on the hit, and after review it was to be determined that it was contact to the head, they could add a suspension. But when they review this and if they determine it to be shoulder to shoulder, the cannot reduce or rescind the suspension. It should be a two way street.

Don't know what you are looking at, but Lynch was bleeding from a face laceration or aomething. I wouldn't say that the officials were stellar but I think this one may have been obvious to them.

Really would've preferred 3 points yesterday but I'll take 2. Michigan got absolutely screwed Friday night. As bad if not worse than the officiating in the National Championship game last season. I still think this team is good enough to win a CCHA Championship (regular season or tournament).

Michigan NEEDS John Merril back from suspension ASAP.
