Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

Re: Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

That looks like embellishment by the goalie. The goalie was hit, but the MI guy pushed the NMU guy into him, and the goalie over-reacted to the hit. The goalie was out of line, and I'm a huge defender of all things goalie. The stick-throwing was completely immature. As for the kick, it's there, not as flagrant as the NMUers might attest to, but it was a cheap shot.

There's not really a push there. Maybe you could say he lost an edge. But any contact was incidental enough that it's still the Northern player's fault for not being in control of his body while crashing the net, especially considering he didn't have the puck anymore.

Also, what the hell is the Northern player doing skating within kicking range of a player that's been taken out (the one that he just took out) and is lying on the ice well after the whistle?

I hope 318 wasn't one of the Michigan fans bleating all week about Gholston's punch last Saturday based on that.

Actually I was one of the those Michigan fans.

However, Hunwick acted like an a**hole last night. I am not defending his behavior, but you cannot deny there was a lot of pestering at that moment by both teams.

Re: Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

Jesus H Christmas, do I need to loop the Benny Hill theme in this thread, too? It's like a ****ed circus in here.

And, considering what he did during the game, I will give Hunwick props for his public apology afterwards via Twitter. He knows he messed up.

The fanbase dynamic here is interesting as well. NMU fans are clearly used to a revolving door on the penalty box, whereas the UMich set here clearly isn't. Ever stop to think and accept as we have that your players may have been, I don't know, actually committing penalties, and that it wasn't just a divine or zebra striped force working against you?

Re: Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

yawn, you sound like a sparty fan. Maybe if your goons didn't gang rush hunwick the game wouldn't have gotten out of hand. How about knocking off Luke Glendenning's helmet off at the end of the 2nd. Nice selective view of the game yooper!

By the way even the Yooper radio feed was laughing at how one sided the refs were in the 2nd period. Thats what you get when you have rookie refs calling the game.

I cannot wait to leave the joke that is the CCHA for the B1G. As long we can take Piot as the head of the refs and Molina, Likens, and Shegos to the B1G I will be happy.

Are you sure you were listening to the same broadcast? Said NMU may have gotten a little "home cookin'" at one point, but never claimed anything was "one sided." Still in disbelief that Hunwick could punch Cherniwchan in the face with his blocker and not get called for fighting, then throw his stick without any additional penalty.

I've seen tim thomas go after players just like hunwick and not get called for "fighting". Specifically, sean avery and a. Kostitsyn.

That is the NHL though, in college you can't just go around punching people. Also Hunwick tried to get a fight, as he threw multiple punches.

Re: Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

So I just watched the official highlight video from Michigan on the CCHA website. It strikes me as funny that they show the part where Hunwick is knocked over, but then they cut directly to the result of him getting kicked out. Maybe they should show the aftermath of the hit as well?

Funny how that editing works.

Re: Michigan at NMU, 10/21-22--Walmart better stock up...

if hunwick plays Michigan wins. period. end of story.

Let's just hope he took his nap and had his milk and cookies. Anyone who thinks the goalie got run is way off base. Cherniwchan was coming in the wing, went down and was sliding when the contact was made. There was no intent to take the goalie out.

Thanks for addressing that point that nobody made. Super helpful.

Even if it wasn't his intent to run the goalie, it's still his fault for failing to be in control while taking a hard line to the net without the puck. Very much like most high sticking calls, where you may not be trying to hit the guy, but you're still at fault for recklessly having your stick up high. The ref would have been justified in calling goaltender interference on that play, though they only do it sporadically in that kind of situation.

Oh that's rich. It's Cherniwchan's fault he was being ridden into the goal post like a pony and incidentally touched Hunwick?

Was it also Cherniwchan's fault for standing in front of <strike>Hextall</strike> Hunwick as he practiced yoga lunges during the stoppage in play?

Wow. Do you by chance also work in UofM's Sports Information Department?

Well said^^^^.

I hope they come out and get in Hunwick's head quick. Getting him off balance may be the key to winning this game.

Considering he was barely touched and not visibly pushed, yes, it is his fault. He blew an edge making a power move trying to cut in front of the Michigan defenseman.

Since he ended up in the corner, he had to choose to try and skate directly through Hunwick instead of going around him. I don't even know how that's debatable.

Nope, just making observations based on the video instead of feebly using hyperbole to defend my point.

Quite the homeriffic post there.

He was pushed. It's pretty clear-cut. Again, for the record, I don't give two craps about either of these teams.
