Merrimack College Warriors 2016-17

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2016-17

Losing to UMass on your own ice is pathetic. Outshot them 17-1 in the 3rd? BFD. Again, not ready to play in the 1st, down 3-0 before the game was 12 minutes old. Maybe time to try Delia. Yuppie, I thought that'd get these 2 points. Don't see them beating UNH. Disappointing.

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2016-17

At least they decided to show up today at UNH. Things were looking promising up to the last minute there. Sooner or later they gotta show me they can shut down a hockey east team and not blow a lead.

Taking a total of one point from these two teams is a pretty crushing blow. Perhaps passing up the lowest hanging fruit in the league.

Any insights anyone would care to share about your team and the matchup with UW this weekend? Looks like goals are hard to come by but your D is decent.

I think that's fair. We have a few guys capable of creating offense in Seney, Tavernier, Gustafsson and some big D men to watch in Spaxman and Kovacevic. We entered the season with two potential starting goalies, however one of them, Colin Delia has been injured for some time now, so we've been leaning on Vogler. Still unsure if this team has the juice to get out of the cellar of Hockey East as we wait for our elusive first conference win.

Your best source for info will be themackreport.com.

I'm predicting a weekend split against the badgers. A change of scenery and hopefully improved health will work in the Warrior's favor. Oh, and F the Big 10!

Yuppie Scum says Oh, and F the Big 10!

Your name/moniker suits you well...

Summarized quite nicely! Offensive woes have been an annual situation for a few years now. Seney (13) is the best offensive player. Very quick and will pick a d-man's pocket if they hesitate. Gustaffson has good size and is strong in front of the net. On D, Spaxman and Kovicevic have good size, but are still young. Goaltending is trick or treat. Vogler can look great one night and be a mess another. Team has historically taken a lot of penalties, but that's down a bit this year.

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2016-17

Mostly agree with this, although Yuppie and I typically have the same vantage points (roughly a one seat difference). I'd argue that the best D-man is Kolquist, but best potential is probably Kovacevic or maybe Spaxman. In general, they have three pretty good D pairings even with Titcomb injured. This is helped by a fairly aggressive fore-check, see Greg Browns comments following the BC game: “We couldn’t find the middle as well a we wanted to, They come so hard down the walls and their first two guys come, so it’s almost a four-man fore-check sometimes. We need to move it quickly and if you can you can find space, we had a few 2-on-1s in the first, but we didn’t get as many in the second and third.”
As previously mentioned, we can have trouble finishing despite often having a possession advantage. Seney is the most skilled player on the team, Gustafsson has had a great start to this year and has good size. Two guys to watch for are Tyler Irvine and Michael Babcock (name might look familiar). Not flash players, but solid two way guys who skate hard and show some sand. Looking forward to seeing the Saturday game on TV.

Hello Warriors and welcome back to the Kohl Center!

Tonight's game will be broadcast on btn2go but for those folks who are so unfortunate as to not have the B1G Network --> you should probably move! :)

In the meantime though, the game will also be available here on The Wisconsin Channel.

Big get! I assume Wisco will be coming through at some point as well?

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2016-17

Getting a split at Wisconsin is not a bad result at all. Great to see Delia back, and outstanding to see them win a game only scoring 2 goals!

Having more than one varsity goalie option is going to be very beneficial going forward. Can we get a Hockey East win on Friday?

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2016-17

Great to get that 1st HE win of the season. Outstanding 3rd period (1st and 2nd were a bit of a sleepwalk). Tyler Irvine was a huge spark, picking up a bad PC turnover in the offensive zone and rifling one in off the post; 90 seconds later, he drove hard to the net, got a stick on a pass from Gustaffson, and Ludvig Larsson knock it home. Another assist, and a short-handed empty netter for a 4 point night, all in the 3rd period.

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2016-17

Dennehey must have given one hell of a speech in the second intermission, or PC thought they could get away with coasting thru the third.

Second goal by PC was a laugher. Unfortunately it seems Vogler can be prone to those.. Looking forward to competition between Vogler and Delia down the stretch.

Great also to see a full house despite the students being out of town. Credit to PC, they travel very well.

Battle for the 978!

Looking forward to seeing UML and getting up to the Tsongas for the first time in a few years. Looks as though they are beatable, so it would be nice to take a point or two.

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2016-17

Anyone with a report on last night? What happened to Vogler? Looks like it was a good effort defensively (only allowed 20 shots), but when you allow 2 goals on 3 shots in the 3rd, how can you possibly win? Again, no offense (0-5 on the powerplay and only 17 shots in total) which is a continuing theme. Need to be a lot better at Lawler (you know, that NHL Regulation size rink!) tonight.

I think this needs to be revised to "having NO varsity goalie option. Horrible weekend effort (or lack thereof). Thought Delia had things straightened out after his return at Wisconsin, but clearly he has not.

Just had an opportunity to watch the, "ahem" highlights. Awful. Seriously looked like Merrimack was already on break. Guys cruising around, not defending, leaving UML players open all over the ice.

Wow, Mark D. you have a lot of work to do.

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2016-17

Attended Friday's game - I believe the team was playing pretty well for the first two and a half periods, maybe not generating the most scoring opportunities but certainly maintaining possession and muddying the waters for Lowell. I was distracted somehow and missed the Seney injury. The Delia injury was a real game changer in that Vogler was clearly not ready and let in a few very soft goals very fast. I think the team straight up checked out when Delia exited.

I did not have the "pleasure" of attending the saturday game, but it's too bad that Delia could not recreate what he had shown in his past two starts.

Can't get too upset about being swept by a top 10 team (unlike, say, getting swept by UMass) but you're right, it's going to take a magical second half to get the Merrimack faithful excited again.
