Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

Drove into Andover this morning. MC-UNH playoff posters are up in almost every shop or restaurant. I also got a discounted ticket offer from my son's Reading Little League program for the game. Hope fans are going to take advantage of this.

Check out MacMahon's latest article.. he was saying that there are still a lot of unsold seats. Sad to hear if true. It's true starting the series on Thurs could be a damper. A lot of people can get out of work early on a friday or maybe once per week, but getting up to Andover to pregame and whatnot twice during the week (esp when you have to be productive Friday) is a challenge. I'll probably be showing up just in time for the game Thurs.

Always great to see them marketing to the locals. I do hope the students come on down and stay the whole game. They were there all night Friday, so that's encouraging. I think they'll be there for the playoffs. They should plan to give away any unsolds to the students. (Least they could do for 50-whatever per year..)

I expected better from the Cat fans too!

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

The real difference between this year's team and 2011 is the record. In that playoff series both teams had winning records and it was a play in for the NCAA tournament. The last two years the student section is a joke. I would have killed for a team like this my senior year. I went to about half the home games and it was tough. BTW my senior year was 37 goals in 34 games. I boggles my mind how anyone can leave a tied or one goal hockey game.

Either way, I think this will be a good close series and hopefully Merrimack can just play their A game. Lastly if you have a chance look at some of the threads of other hockey east teams playing, because it is scary how some of the fans think.

Agreed - just shows lots of students don't care how they do. they just come because it's something to do but once 9 pm, it's party time.

Should be a great series, probably going 3. I just hope our fans actually show up. We may not get another playoff series at Lawler for awhile. I hope fans recognize this. Mike's article hit the nail on the head.

No way UNH puts more asses in seats than BU did tonight. They had probably a quarter of the attendance from what I could tell.

Can't say I'm too concerned about the cats coming in based on tonight's performance, we've got a hell of a team this year. Even Gravalese couldn't stop them.

Here's hoping you guys are once again overlooking UNH the next couple of evenings

The record, the matchup and also the novelty factor. Remember we were just barely back from death's door at that point, and I don't know if we ever hosted a home playoff series before that. This was a completely new experience for myself and many other MC fans.

What happened in the first intermission? They looked like a different team after the first period. Or maybe Umile is a defensive genius after all..

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

The power play to start the second was a huge momentum changer. I liked the effort and thought Merrimack played well. Hopefully tonight they can put some more of those shots in the net.

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

No issues with the way we played last night. you play like that most nights and you win. Even after the first shots were 30-23. We controlled the puck all night but Tirone stood on his head. I think that's the only chance UNH had in the series, is if Tirone stood on his head because this is not a good UNH team. They are a one line team and last night that one line beat Merrimack basically. I know Vela had the two goals but one of those was an empty netter and one was a puck that basically landed on his stick after a blocked shot.

We play like that the next two nights I still think we win the series. Problem is with this team (Merrimack) you never know what you are going to get. With the season on the line I expect the boys to have some jump tonight but we have seen them lay plenty of eggs this year.

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

Best game in years at Lawler last night. Electric in the 3rd and OT. Hope everyone comes out tomorrow. It's the first-ever do-or-die game at MC. Fully expect MC to win going away.

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

This is not a good UNH team, although if you read the UNH thread they would tell you that the shot differential in all of these games is "because merrimack throws the puck at the net from everywhere"

Yeah, that and 2x the zone time Merrimack has had in almost all four games.

Aside from UNH's top line there isn't a single thing on their team offensively that scares me.

They got some good players developing (Nazarian, Vela) but fully expecting we pull it out tomorrow. We have outshot UNH 96-49, I think it is, not because "we throw the puck from everywhere" but because we're in the offensive zone before Merrimack can roll four lines and be effective.

38 goals in 10 games since snapping the losing streak (3.8). Even take out that ASU laugher and its 28 goals in 9 games (3.1). This team was offensively challenged for a 10-game stretch where 7 were on the road. Other than that, scoring has been fine all year.

Petti with his 3rd goal of the series!

Definitely the series MVP in my book.

On to PC.. I hope we can put up a little better performance than we did earlier in the season. The one I saw down in RI was a real stinkeroo. I'm just glad they don't have to travel to South Bend or anything. Maybe some students will actually make this trip?

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

Probably the best Merrimack game I saw live was the end of my freshman year at MC which coincided with my brother (and now sister in law's) senior year at Providence. Down at Schneider, last game of the season, MC came down from 3-1 down scoring 2 goals in the last 2 minutes to force OT which they then won. Now my brother and sister in law are trying to bet dinner on the series which I must confess is a bet I don't want to take.

http://www.themackreport.com/news/commentary-merrimack-crowds-rose-to-the-occassion-in-first-round/ - Nice article by MacMahaon, I think we are definitely the place to be for a playoff series. Mac doesn't mention how about 1/3rd the rink was Wildcat fans, but no matter. The Comm Ave schools are apparently mausoleums this time of year, in what should be the most exciting time of the year outside the Beanpot.

Great article from Mike. 1/3rd of Lawler were unh fans? No way. Maybe 20% tops. I only heard them once or twice all weekend.

Onto Providence. This should be good. Sounds like lots of students are going on the fan buses. With providence hoops in big east tournament, might mc fans take over?

1/3 is like 1,000 UNH fans??? Maybe 150? I thought their biggest showing was Game 3 and they weren't that loud (not much to cheer about thankfully!!!!!!)
