Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

1/3 is like 1,000 UNH fans??? Maybe 150? I thought their biggest showing was Game 3 and they weren't that loud (not much to cheer about thankfully!!!!!!)

Well maybe the stress of the situation was getting to me there.. You're right, game three definitely had a significantly higher turnout.

You guys see this Finnish kid we just verbally committed? You have to be excited to get anyone who played for a national U-18.

have not been online until I saw your post so checked out the story. Seems like a good get! Last time we had a French kid (he was born in France) it turned out ok!!!

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

Series thoughts? PC swept the season series, 2-1 at Lawler, and 4-0 at PC. Warriors played them tight though 2 periods of the second game, but gave up 3 in the 3rd (2 ppgs') Gave up 4 pp goals on that weekend. Walman has been one of the best offensive d-men in the country this year, so that helps MC that he is out.
While PC is certainly the favorite (overwhelming?), I think Mack will be a handful this weekend. Vogler has stepped up big time, and they seem to have found some offense (poured a lot of shots on Tirrone last weekend). Play smart, stay out of the box, and they have a shot.

"Hi PC, I'm Mack"

I think if we win one, it's tonight, with PC rusty from the bye week and MC being on a tear.

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

I see Merrimack losing a competitive series. YS I agree that tonight would be the night to steal one, but as we all know the second you think you have Merrimack hockey figured out everything changes. Unfortunately there was no way I could get down to the game tonight but am excited to go tomorrow.

Lastly kudos to the school for the student deal they have for this weekend and the alumni / fan event tomorrow night.

5 bucks for a ride to providence, pizza and hockey? No brainer. Providence is a great place to be 18-21.

Heading down to PC tonight. What is the alumni/fan event you mentioned? Never mind, found it.

Certainly made PC work for it. A couple of observations:

If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, then MC's offensive approach tonight was just that. Get to the redline and dump it in....lather, rinse, repeat. Maddening. Never were able to get any cycle going in the PC end.
Power play was ugh. PC was VERY aggressive on their kill, and Merrimack couldn't handle it.
Generally thought the defense played pretty well.
Impressed by Vogler. Starting job is his to lose. Really found his mojo (did I really just type that:eek:) as the season wound down.
PC is solid. Mobile D, good size and speed (I forgot how big Jankowski is). Ellis never really got tested.

Expected he Warriors to finish 6th/7th, and they hit that mark. Season started with promise, hit a huge valley in the middle, and recovered down the stretch. A lot of promise for next year as this was a very young team.

Couldn't be prouder of our boys. Went toe to toe with the No. 4 team and it was a battle. I agree the lack of offense was frustrating but I think that is just because PC is so good. I agree, this team was so young, future is very promising and I can't wait until October.

Electric atmosphere at the Schneider tonight. Great to see the student section out in full force again. These trips should help our student section develop some juice/chutzpah/gusto/whatever as time goes by.

I think we hung with them pretty well defensively, but quality chances were few and far between. Only a couple really dangerous moments for Ellis.

I'm going to miss Benny Bahe out there a lot. Was always awesome to see him snatch a turnover and scream up the ice. Wyz was a great pickup for us and his size and versatility will be missed. Good to know Christie has a landing spot in the pro's. Have to tip the cap to Huss as well.

I agree the future is pretty bright. A lot of the things we used to take flack for (24 year old freshmen, taking tons of penalties, etc) are now in the past. Between this large freshmen class and the promising incoming commits. I think depending on who bc/BU/etc bring in next year, we should be competitive and make some real noise in the HEA.

So Dennehy interviewed for the UMass job. Would that really be an upgrade at this point? I did see they interviewed some people for their thoughts on where the program stood but still.

The only thing they have on Merrimack is a better rink. Other than that there isn't much difference.

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

MC has a much better core of talent than UMass, shorter travel to a lot of league games, great commitment from the administration/no competition from other men's d1 programs, he's got a house in the Andovers already, and if he took over UMass he would have to coach Plevy who he publicly put on blast when he de committed from MC.. I'm hoping it was an informational interview only.

Or he interviewed to get a raise and get more money out of the Mack.

Re: Merrimack College Warriors 2015-2016: Come out and play

We are keeping our coach, which is good. I hope Merrimack stepped up to the plate and sweetened his deal and that is why he did not take the UMass job. I am going to predict we read about a contract extension in a few weeks. Same with Bennett. If Merrimack let him walk to another hockey east school, their entire Athletic department should have been fired. Glad they realized what he built and made a play (I am assuming) to keep him around. I thought we were going back to cheapass Merrimack like the old "Smile'n Dick" days.

or, perhaps he wan't offered at all.
Did a little research based on the conversation in the "New Coach for UMass" thread. I was a bit surprised that MD apparently makes a fair amount more than Gendron @ UMaine, but that seems to be the case. Anyway, MD's record at Merrimack (taking out the 1st 2 years of the bare cupboard that he was left with), is not that bad. Averaging about 15 wins per year, with a high of 25 in '10-'11(oh, if not for an unlucky bounce in OT against ND......), and a low of 8 in '13-14. Moved up from 11th to 7th in Hockey East this past year, about where I thought they'd end up. He's building a team that should be able to stay in the 5th-8th range, with a possible jump up if the stars align (hello Joe Cannata and Stephane Da Costa).
All in all, glad he's staying.

I agree. If we had a team that finished 5th-8th every year and once in a while, maybe every 5 years, you jump into the top 4 maybe and make a good run, that would be great. I think we need to know who we are. We are merrimack, a small school, competing against giants with much more money, better buildings. That we can compete at all is a miracle. I like where this team is headed!!!!! Especially with Seney and those guys getting older.
