Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Gettin' a little nervous about home ice prospects. Still up 1 point on Maine (with a game in hand AND the tiebreaker), but Maine's goltending situation has solidified with Sullivan and their offense remains hot. MC has had the goaltending all along, but can anybody score? 8th in offense in HE is putting a HUGE burden on Canatta and the defense. Dennehy has to figure out some line combinations or something (are they using the stretch play as much this year?) to find some goals. I'd like to make a trip to the Garden again this year, but if they have to travel for the quarters, I'm not sure I see that happening.

Win tonight, coupled with a Maine win, makes it a 5 horse race.

I was at there last night. I am too pretty ****ed off about the embellishment calls. It seems like Merrimack always gets a matching embellishment call...

The refs are too eager to call it.

Next time we give them reason to fall.
They are the smallest team I've seen yet.

I thought last night's game was the best officiated game I have seen in a long time. The game was well played on both sides with teams having numerous chances. It was a hard earned tie, but Merrimack needs to start scoring goals. Other than the 6-2 win against Maine it seems like they have difficulty scoring against good teams.

On a positive note, the PK was outstanding this weekend.

Need to find the scoring touch again.. 1 goal all weekend?

It was a very exciting game with great goaltending and solid chances both ways. Glad to see UNH competing with very good teams. Overall, I agree about the officiating and it was a very clean game, but not making that call on Cannata in overtime was inexcusable as it took a scoring chance away. Oh well, good luck the rest of the way!

Another huge weekend in HE. Will MC catch the Eagles in a "post Beanpot letdown", or will BC be flying to try and get York his 900th win? I see UML-BU splitting their series, and Maine sweeping UMass in Orono. At a minimum, need 2 points this weekend against BC (I don't care if it is 2 more ties!). Would love to see Merrimack end their streak of futility at Conte. A BC sweep would put a severe dent in MC's home ice chances. Conversely, an MC sweep, and the Warriors would be in GREAT position; would hold the tiebreaker over BC and Maine, and still have a chance to do some damage to UML.

Both Hendrickson and Connelly predicting a BC sweep. I think they split. Can't break the streak at Kelly Rink, York gets his 900th (congrats in advance, nice to get it in front of the home crowd) but Warriors find a bit of their missing offense and get to Milner on Sat nite.

I agree if York wasn't going for 900 I would give Merrimack a chance. I think Merrimack will realize that Saturday's game will be the biggest game of the year and they will get a split.

As much as I'd like to think differently, Merrimack is going to get swept this weekend. No offensive punch right now.

A split for both the Merrimack River schools will make things next week so much fun. Not that it won't be anyway.

I like the idea of a UML and MC sweep this weekend (didn't say it would happen), and then play for first place next weekend! :D

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

can't win games if you only play the last 25 minutes of a game. If Merrimack doesn't come out flying tomorrow than they have no chance the rest of the season. Getting one shot in the first period is aweful. Hopefully the student section will finally be up for a game because they have been weak the since coming back from the break.

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

For Merrimack to have any chance at a split this weekend the fowards are gonna hafta start shooting the puck a lot more.No turnovers stay out of the box!

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Just got back from the game at Volpe tonight...some observations.

1) Milner just might have played the game of the year for him and his Eagles...MC carried the play for 2 solid periods, but we could only muster 1 goal.

2) Kreider, for his size, is one of the most fluid skaters I have seen in a long time...when he wants to turn on the jets, there aren't many players than can catch him...wow.

3) I always thought Parker was the only coach in boston that had the refs in his back pocket...that was until tonight...I can't believe that BC could do no wrong through that whole game with the exception of one minor penalty midway through the first.

4) I have seen every team in HE this year, and BC players turn their bodies to the glass more than anybody I've seen...is it being taught so they get more PPs??? Players are putting themselves at risk...but hey, they scored one of their 2 on the PP, so maybe it's working for them.

5) Can anybody tell me about 2 phantom calls on the night? One, during the 2nd period, a player from MC rips a shot from the slot that the goalie makes the save on...didn't get a glove on the puck, went off his pad, yet the refs blew the whistle with the rebound in the slot. And 2, the worst call I've seen in a long time. The offsides on MC in the 3rd period when valeca dropped the puck for Flanigan...how can Low make that offsides call.

I'll stop my rant now...but that just might have cost us not only home ice, but a chance at a 2nd straight NCAA berth. NOT HAPPY!!!

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

So you're basing someone having the refs in their back pocket off of one game? Interesting to say the least.

And yes, BC players are being taught to put themselves in vulnerable positions where they could be severely hurt. Sounds like a good plan, right? Cry me a river.

Be a man and apologize for you tear stained rant. You sound like a 13 year old girl.

Re: Merrimack College 2011-2012 Season Thread - vita post Da Costa

Say what you want about the refs but in the end Merrimack scored 3 goals the whole weekend. Merrimack can't find the back of the net. I thought the linesmen tonight were out of play but they weren't the reason Merrimack lost. As a Merrimack fan I have come to the realization that if you can't score goals you are not going to win. BC is good and survived a tough game tonight. Merrimack had too many chances and we should never complain about refs because by now we should know that hockey east refs call the most penalties and deal with it.

Mack was terrific in the second period but did you really think they carried the play in the other two periods?

we all say things that afterwards we wish we hadn't..........i suspect this is one of those times for you:confused:

Hey Carmine, are you the guy Will Hunting abuses in the playground?

No I'm the guy that makes people like you look stupid. For instance, how about this gem?

We could kick your *** with 18 year olds, we're just trying to make sure we win the conference.

Be happy you even earned a tie against BC this year.
