Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Also..what was with all of those drop passes coming out of the D-zone and in the neutral zone?! I was practically screaming just dump it...get it in the zone deep and battle for it...we can win those battles, but when you have Da Costa drop passing to Bates who doesn't find the puck it ends up going the other way...I really didn't get that.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

which is exactly why he will leave after this year. wasting his time

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

eh ya perhaps. I mean no doubt in all likelihood he will leave...

I was actually getting kind of ****ed at him, if you know it's not working you have to adapt. Take the puck across the red line, flick it in and go win the one on ones.

Line shake up for this weekend against BU? Where is Velleca, strap some skates to that kid and get him in there.
Interesting question Salvo, I think what was most telling was a quote in one of Coach Dennehy's post-game interviews:

"I think this week in practice there might be some more battling going on. We're going to see who really wants to play...and we're going to put some guys in some uncomfortable situations and see who comes out of it"

Translation: the players who put the time in and work hardest on the practice ice are going to be in the lineup versus BU. Graduation year won't come into play, I am willing to bet.

Ultimately, I think a better team will come to play against BU, the team will be ready to play--but more realistically--this team needs a road win to build on and BU would be a HUGE one if they can pull it off.

Have to say I'm happy with the weekend's results. Outshot the #1 team in their own barn.

The penalties in the 3rd killed us. We killed the penalties but it took a lot of gas out of the team. Looked like they were on their heals after that.

Have to say, after seeing the way this team has played against the top 2 teams in the country....have to smile.

UMass Lowell can be a good statement series for us next weekend.

You hit the nail on the head there Salvo. Merrimack needs to gain a road win in the worst way and this would be the perfect time to do it. The team was disappointed they couldn't grab the third point last night from BU and rightly so--but 2/3/4 points against the Riverhawks would be a nice way to transition into a very tough following weekend vs. BC and UNH.

Personally, I am excited to see the new and improved Tsongas, it has always been a nice facility, but it could be similar to Agganis in fan experience now...we shall see on Friday!

Dennehey inks 6 year contract. Great to know who will be in charge of the program in the coming years. He is doing some terrific stuff up in North Andover (now if only they can get a road win :D)

Good for Merrimack and good for Hockey East.

Here Here! I'm very impressed with this program's progress. They've recruited some exceptional kids over the last couple years, and selling the program has innate challenges. Not that the school, fans, and resources aren't great - they are - but the knowledge that you'll play almost half of your games against BC, BU, UNH, Vermont and Maine - you've got your work cut out for you.

This team, and these coaches have clearly been up to the challenge and are earning some well deserved respect throughout division 1. I'm glad to see it, and it's a great thing for Hockey East!

Keep up the great work, Dennehey!!

Terrific to get a road win. From what I've read (see UML thread) sounds like 'Mack dominated the play and Carr kept the Riverhawks afloat.
Congrats to Todd on the HT. Surprised that Da Costa has gone pointless in 4 straight;the misconduct could have really put his team in a hole. Need to be smarter than that. Also, enough with the penalties!! We know the PK is very good, but stop giving yourselves so many opportunities to use it!
Close out the series with a nice win tonite, next week is tough (BC Friday afternoon, no students around) and at the Whit where UNH hasn't lost a HE game in a while.

y'all finally got your road win and the thread is asleep! ya think that if you walked up to the ticket window friday afternoon there wouldn't be a problem getting a ticket?

Yes. I think you should be alright. If it was a BC-Merrimack game like 2 weekends ago with the students around and less hectic situations with people dealing with leftovers, family, travel, etc I'd say you might have a problem, but you should be good for this game.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

ya, I would say no problem getting a ticket, I doubt it will sell out. That being said, the friday after turkey day last year was against UNH and there was a surprisingly good turnout.

As for Da Costa...that penalty was total bogus. It was a VERY late whistle and he was already in the motion of shooting it. None of the UML players complained, I think it was just a terrible, terrible call.

I've heard from a friend who claims he has inside sources that have told him that Da Costa has been sick. I don't know with what or how much truth is behind that but who knows...it might be a relevant factor.

Don't forget he had a very very near miss at BU that would have ended it last Friday with 10 seconds left, and he hit 2 posts I believe against BU on Saturday. He's there, getting the looks and firing the puck, a half inch or so he would have had a few goals.

A win or tie tonight is almost necessary in my opinion with BC and UNH next weekend. Need to get points when we can.

Good teams take the points that are on the table each weekend and MC proved that this weekend, sweeping a struggling UMass Lowell squad.

What really amazed me was this stat from the athletics dept:

The win marked Merrimack's third straight triumph over the River Hawks, its longest streak against its cross-town rival since 1977 and its first-ever weekend sweep of its opponent. It is also the first time the Warriors will win the season-series against Lowell since the 1996-97 season.

I just found it hard to believe that MC had never swept UMass Lowell before, but hey, it happens to everybody at some point.

This coming weekend for Merrimack will be gut-check time, facing two ranked squads in BC at home (with a lesser student crowd because of the holiday) and UNH on the road who has been stellar out of the gate. If MC can get two points next weekend, I would be thrilled, to be honest. Scoring goals against the two best statistical goalies in Hockey East (Muse, DiGirolamo) will be a big task for the boys.

The good news is after that MC gets somewhat of a respite in taking on Harvard, Northeastern (x2), Army and RIT, all teams that are 44th or lower in the KRACH rankings and post a sub .500 record.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Warriors should crack the top 20....Both Robert Morris and MSU were swept; could see MC come in at 19 or 20. Don't ever remember them being ranked, certainly not after 10 games. Keep it going!

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

18th in USCHO. 1st time in school history that they have been in the Top 20.
Would LOVE to see them take the season series from the Eagles on Friday. Betting they see Muse and not Milner; Muse is putting up "Jimmy Howard" like numbers so far this year.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

What a leap for this program.

Very tough weekend ahead of us. Winning the season series against BC would be fantastic. Nice to have them at home but without students it may not really be a Merrimack advantage.
