Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Good win tonight, really came back tonight after getting smoked last weekend. What was with all the hitting after the whistle penalties? Anyone at the game want to share? I'm curious because I looked at the box score from your last few games and there filled with em. ;)

I saw the video feed... I think it's just frustration on Providence's part. They didn't get many good looks at Cannata (a couple at Drew late) and it just seemed like PC forwards were still making contact and in close proximity to the MC goaltenders after the whistle, pushing and shoving, and things escalated. Most of the time it ended up with coincidental minors or a Merrimack power play.

I concur...unfortunately, you have people outside of the program who will look at the boxscore and say that MC was "gooning" it up again...which is kind of laughable...being up 6-1, you don't take stupid penalties...but PC's forwards were making their way towards the net, our D-men were stopping them before they got to Cannata, pushing followed, followed by matching minors...and a really AWFUL 5 minute major for "facemasking"...just awful. But oh well, still #1 in the country in penalty minutes ;)

Agreed but it was not an awfull call. Ref told him to stop and let go about 3 or 4 times. He wouldnt listen and kept trying to twist the players head.

got what he deserved and that type of composure will not help when it counts. If they are constantly that easily baited into crap, wait till the road to the frozen four. When you are winning, and have clinched home ice etc the last thing you need is a suspension or 2. Part of being a great team is composure.

As previously stated, the Maine weekend was just that, a weekend that everyone knew would be tough to win. They came back last night and played fantastic. Great composure with puck, PP was tight and they were very good. As good as any team I have watched all year.

Now, get rid of the stupid western canadian jr mentality and play college hockey, composure wise. Don't get sucked into the bs and win games. That is what matters. When you live in Rome, act lke a Roman. If you are in the NCAA playoffs, act like BC, not the Westside Warriors from Vancouver.

Agree 1000%. When your powerplay is as good as theirs is, if they avoid getting sucked into the retaliation bs they end up with a big advantage.

DaCosta has been practicing all week but is still listed as a game time decision. So, we shall see.

PC91...long time no see...it's been years since you invited me and warrior51 (Mike) into the friends of the friars lounge LOL...I'm going to try to make my way down there...I'll see if I can find ya if I do.

Great to hear from you and I'm glad that you are well. I hope to see you tonight if you go. I still answer to the name Mike. ;)
I still sit in lower M row AA seats 2-5. Drop by if you get the time. I'll be there until PC starts gagging then I'll be upstairs in the FOFH room. You don't need any passes to get in this year. Hope to bump into you either way. All the best and glad that your team is on the uptick!!!

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

I will be there tonight. Will be good to hit up Schneider once again. PC fans have been good to us MC fans over the years. It'll be good to see you all

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

MC playing its worst hockey of the year at the worst possible time. Cannata has been very shaky in 3 of last 4, giving up a ton of goals. I'm glad they are playing at home, but man, not exactly building momentum going into playoffs. Giving up 22 shots in a PERIOD to PC? Did they figure up 3-1 after one that they were home free?

Hello....

You can keep saying it but it is 100% obvious and a fact. Without Dacosta, they are a 6th placed team at best. They destroyed pc with him, got drawn and quartered without. Total different team without. With, they win 6-2. Without, lose 4-0, 7-1 and 5-3, all to teams below them in standings.

Who cares though at the end of the day because with Atkinson, BC is not as good and so on. More so than any other team is MC because SD is that big a part of their success. He has a game under belt, a night off, a week of practice and they will be fine next weekend. JC bounces back as well as any goalie. Look for BC, UNH, MC and NE at the Garden.

Next year without SD and the sr's? Who cares, enjoy this year...

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

I understand the impact to the offense without SD; the recent issues have been with the defense which is more troubling. SD not playing has little to do with them giving up 22 shots to a bad PC team (playing without one of THEIR top players in Army).

Absolutely enjoying the year, and I'll be at the Garden.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

It's pretty amazing how the Merrimack Wariors have played this year. That one win over Providence secured home ice for the playoffs and more importantly locked up an NCAA tourney bid. Now before you all go punching your tickets to the Garden you have a pretty big challenge in front of you. Maine is now starting to play like the pre-season #2 or #3 team they were thought to be. If not for an injury to Da Sullivan which kept him out of the line-up for a month and half this Maine squad likely beat UNH at least once as well as BU at home at least once and maybe twice.

Something else for the Warrior fans to consider. Merrimack now knows unless a ton of upsets happen in all the hockey post-season tournaments that they are already in the NCAA's. Do they really have anything to play for? Maine will be a desperate team and those types of teams are very dangerous in the post-season. This basically is the same team that pounded BU in the Hockey East semi-finals last year, and lost 7-6 in OT to the eventual national champs. They know what it takes to win in the post-season and their special teams are starting to click at the right time. Two wins over Merrimack by Maine won't be enough to get into the NCAA's, but they know if they advance to the Hockey East semi-finals and beat BC that they will likely punch their ticket and not many teams will want to have Maine in their regional! Let's just say a lot of teams are rooting like crazy for Merrimack to win that series because they would much rather play the Warriors then the Black-Bears in the NCAA's!

Maine looked like a bunch of dogs vs UMass last night. Tending is suspect at best and D was brutal. MC has eevrything to play for and will be pumped to host first evr HE playoff series. Look for Maine to get spanked and quit.

If you asked BC, UNH etc they would all pay money to play ME vs MC.

Calm down Sammy. This is still a Timmay coached team, and we all know what that means. If there is any way possible to gak something up, Timbo's got the exclusive rights to do so. This series will be just as important to Mack as it to Maine. IMO, that team wot controls its emotions best, wins out. Special teamz should be HUGE in this series.

Interesting question Samluvs, I'll take a stab at it.

What Merrimack has to play for:

1. The Garden - Joe Cannata has the TD Garden painted on the back of his mask, and fans, coaches, players alike have had the notion in their mind that it is plausible since the series ended against BU last season. The fact that it's against Maine is somewhat irrelevant--these kids want to play on a larger stage.

2. Each other - This team is responsible for each other like no other team this college has ever seen. All 28 guys in that locker room fight for each other on a nightly basis and win or lose they remain level headed. Come all this way and not play your hardest in the postseason? I don't see it happening.

3. 2011 Senior Class - This is the winningest Senior class in Merrimack history, don't you think they want to go out on top? The school owes a huge sporting debt to Fraser Allan, Adam Ross, Chris Barton, Joe Cucci, Francois Ouimet, Bobby Kramer and John Jamieson. If the Class of 2010 were the playoff tablesetters, this class wants to be the keystone.

4. Stephane Da Costa - Back in the fall of 2010 when he announced he was returning to school, he mentioned one goal he had in mind "I want to get to the Garden". The guys in that locker room know as well as the fans do that he gave up a professional contract to push this team over the hump. He is not satisfied with home ice advantage.

5. Merrimack College as a whole - For years, this team was really just a blip on the radar, teams came into Lawler to experiment with lines and try out new plays. They really never took the team seriously. Now, Hockey East is forced to take Merrimack seriously and it's not a coincidence that the school is experiencing tremendous growth and financial support through the hockey team. As an alum, every other alum I speak to starts off conversations with "Hey how are you, this team is legit, huh? For the good of the school, the more playoff games they win, the further the financial gravy train will roll...and remember you can't spell enrollment without it...

6. Legacy - It sounds kind of dumb, but it's a source of pride--that your team is the first one in D1 to win 17 games in total, to win 13 games in HEA play, to earn home ice and the first one to finish as high as 4th place. Again, this team knows that they are going to go down as one of the best teams the program has ever seen--but they are not satisfied--they have much larger goals in mind, and the road to the next goal goes through Maine.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

I think Maine's experience (and strong recently play last night not withstanding) will help them pull the upset here. Maine in 3 (all great games).

And there's your answer, hoky. Straight from the Scarpagliomatic 3000.

They want to play Merrimack. :p

eta: Seriously, though, who wouldn't be rooting for Merrimack? Under every other circumstance, I would be, too.
