Anybody want to talk about the actual game? Would be big to pick up 4 points while the top 4 cannibalize each other.

Any analysis from the game? Looked like from the box score MC really came out in the first period, second looks even, with a slight edge to the Cats in the 3rd. As a UVM fan with a team that has struggled was it a decent game or did Madore just keep it close? Any insight would be appreciated.

Should be a good turnout tonight, it's on TV and it's free t-shirt night. I bet all the students wanted to hang with their friends the first weekend back.

I'll offer my take. The first period, IMO was the best period (at home) I have seen MC play, it was total domination in all zones. The second period I would say was pretty even and MC took their foot off the gas. In the 3rd, it was UVM' s period.

The simple truth for MC was that Cannata was the difference. He stopped two great breakaway chances for McCarthy and Downing. Downing in particular was in all alone and went to tuck the puck past Cannata under his right pad, but Joe anticipated the move and made an outstanding save.

From an MC fan's perspective, UVM played pretty well, they put forth a lot of great defensive effort in the 2nd and 3rd to turn the game around. They very nearly tied/won that game last night, but Cannata saved MC's bacon.

Madore made a couple of great saves to keep Merrimack off the board in the 2nd and 3rd, but check out the video to see a few of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rskFfE_CIY4

First period both teams started slowly. About 8 minutes in MC throttled down and created PP opportunities. The scored quickly and basically controlled the 1st period from that point on. Canatta stopped McCarthy on a breakaway, not a clean breakaway there were two people bearing down on him.

Second period was equal and UVM started to pressure in the second. Canatta was huge, as was Madore.

The third was all UVM, Canatta made some great save on two UVM power plays that actually looked like power plays. That was encouraging as MC has the 3rd best PK in the county and UVM looked like a power play. They had two goals that Canatta just stoned them. Well played good game.

And one goal is your change and we thank you.

In all seriousness, I was impressed by a few UVM players during this two game series:

Dan Lawson - A friend of mine commented "the guy's legs are like tree trunks" and I would say that was a fair evaluation. He is one of the stronger players in the league and he probably has a future at the next level in some capacity.

Connor Brickley - I was most interested in seeing his game. I didn't really see his impact in the box score, but the kid can really fly. He may be the player that the offensive torch is passed to next season.

Jack Downing - He (and his linemates) were the offense in both games. Downing is deceptively quick and he is very good at driving the net and picking up points. I thought he and Stalberg made a decent impact on the series, but obviously it wasn't enough on the whole.

Merrimack looked real impressive last night. Watching the replay on NESN right now after being at the Lawler last night. Sneddon looked very disgruntled on the bench.

Not sure where in the game you are but keep watching. Sneddon looks more and more disgruntled as the goals pile up.

He's probably wondering why his uber-goalie Madore can't stop a beachball anymore.

I wonder if Hokeydud caught up with him and err.... silenced him before he could out him...

As much as that would make a great story, when I got home from the game last night, I went through the live blog to see what was said about some of the action, and saw Salvo write that he was skiing in Vermont.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

After the sweep and 7 goal beating they put on UVM he can't pull his hand out of pants long enough to type.

Hey...with law school I don't even get enough time to do that let alone post on these boards every waking second!

I was enveloped with reading this entire weekend so I could ski on Sunday so I couldn't make it to the games, watched Saturday's romping on NESN though. (Ironic that I was up in VT)

I'm happy for Mike Collins, he's gonna be great and will play a role in filling in some of the gaps next year. Honestly felt a little bad for Madore near the end, it looked like he wasn't even trying on Collins' last goal.

The energy in the building was awesome Satuday night. Loudest sporting event I've ever been to by far, and the students seem to be coming into their own in terms of spectatorship. Just a great time to be a fan of this program.
