Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

I think there's a little room back there. If you ditch the vending machines that are on the other side of the wall, and push the wall back 5 feet or so, There would still be enough room to get to the bathrooms and maybe you couldn't put as big of a bleacher section like there is on the far side but I think it's doable.

big weekend starting tonight, predictions?

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Noticed an interesting scheduling anomoly. MC has 7 "Home and Home" series' with HE opponents (exc. Vermont and Maine). 6 out of 7 of these series start away. Only the final series with PC has a Friday game @ Lawler.
In contrast, BC has the same 7 "Home and Home" series', but only start 2 on the road. BU starts 3 on the road.
Would you rather have the Friday game @ home or the Saturday game, or does it not make any difference?

3-1 with an empty netter tonight, and 4-1 tomorrow at the Lawls

I like having the 2nd game at home, but this kind of stuff rotates year to year.

BC has home Friday games because many of the ACC basketball games are on Saturdays (both men's & women's).

They both have their benefits. For me, with work already in the city, having Friday games is nicer since I'm already here and it is a good way to end the night and keeps Saturday completely open.

Agreed, working in the city I wouldn't be able to make Friday night games outside of BU & NU

I like having the home game Friday so I don't have to sit in traffic leaving Boston to go to a road game.

It does make a difference. The UNH series, where MC lost the 1st game in Durham and with the season series on the line they will play the 2nd in Durham. The home game could have no meaning if we lose the first 2 in Durham. Should have scheduled the first 2 at both sites.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

Nice win on the road. Love Matthews arena, one of my favorites. Need to finish up business at home now and finish strong going into break.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: taking H.E. one chair-back seat at a time

NU completely ignored the stretch and played 5 on 4 in the zone which definitely created some chances. What do people think about that...from either side. If you're NU do you just ignore him and take the man advantage and risk the breakaway. If you're Merrimack and NU is dialing up some pressure by ignoring the stretcher do you stick with it?

those are the games you HAVE to win, Mack. i was stunned at Conte seeing the score.............. a good first half that should have been a game better. if you had swept the week's three games i think you would have been really close to the top ten, for what ever thats worth at this point

I dont think so....

Dacosta had 7 of their 23 shots and without him and JC, it is look out below. Bot a lot of depth. Not being negative but it seems like they are trying to create a little smoke and mirrors and to date, it has worked. # 3 for example is a very average player, not close to some of the D in the league.

Not even at Christmas break yet and they have tied Niagra, tied UVM, lost to BC, tied BU twice, who strength of schedule dropped huge this weekend, lost to PC, lost to UNH and lost to NU.

Thats 5-4-3 in conference and two wins vs a top 20 teams, both BC and at home. Zero road wins to talk about.

Their only wins outside that were 2- 1 goal wins vs last placed U Lowell, 1 vs last placed Harvard and 1 vs doormat UConn

Thats not top 10 material

Look at UMD or Denver or Notre Dame or North Dakota etc and see some of their quality wins. Those are top 10 types. MC will be lucky to stay in top 20 after last night. They are 1 point ahead of Maine in Hockey East and that puts them in 4th place. They have also have played 3 more games than Maine. They are a 5th placed Hockey east team in an off year in the conference. Not a top 10 or top 20 national team

Your last point is a good one "for whatever thats worth". Rankings mean absolutely zilch. Would it be cool to jump into the top 15? absolutely, it speaks volumes for the program but does it really matter? nope.

This was a weekend we should have swept. I'm not one to lay blame on the reffs but seriously, the calling in Hockey East is attrocious. I've gone to many WCHA reffed games and the caliber of reffing is heads and shoulders above hockey east.

You have these soft interference calls but when Da Costa gets hacked and hooked literally all weekend it only leads to one whistle?? I'm left scratching my head after most HE games, not just Merrimack games, I know we take a fair amount of deserved penalties, but it seems like any HE tilt I go to I'm left scratching my head.

That being said, Merrimack has been stagnant on offense as of late and I think it has more to do than Barton missing last night's game (anyone have details on that btw? I heard he was in a sling in the stands).

Maybe it's time for some line shakeups against Army? Where has Velecca been??

And Hokydad....They have tied BU twice and they've beaten BC twice. that's 6 points in 5 games against BC and BU combined (and if it wasn't for JC's misplayed puck at Conte it might be 7 points). I think that's something to hold your head up about. I'm happy where this program is right now, and confident in them moving forward.

agree but i said "really close to the top ten" and we'll never know but 8-3-4 gets them a lot closer, maybe up 3- 4 spots or so after what should have been a 3-0 week. they should have been like sharks sniffing blood in the water last night and apparently came up lame..........

Well, you kind of had me till you finished this diatribe. I wouldnt say its a down yearin HE quite yet. BC is BC, probably better than last year eventually. Maine is a step ahead of last year with some decent goaltending. UHN seems to be playing quite well with some solid wins so far, and I think once BU's youngsters get more experience, they'll be quite tuff. Merrimack looks to be better this year, and I'll say it now, watchout for NU in the second half....these guys can play. Cant speak for UMA or PC or ....well UML can only get better with time. No opinion on UVM. Overall, this conference is as good orbetter than any other this year. Chit Maine and BC both schooled top WCHA teams, UHN split at Miami...no need to sell this league short one bit.

I dont know what MC's staying power will be this year, but I think they're easily top 15 team.

Ahahahahaha. Sure, and if BC's goal was not disallowed MC still would have lost by 1.

You really get excited about little things, I can tell. It's quite funny (and also very sad at the same time).

You would have been better off saying, "If it was not for the play of JC, MC might have gotten 1 or 2 pts instead of 6"

He was outstanding in those games. maybe he should have won those 5 by scores of 1-0.
