Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

I say Steph's almost a lock to leave...

I think Bigos will be called up by Edmonton, his style does not benefit from playing in Hockey East at all, as an organization I think edmonton would rather have him competing at the AHL level where he isn't going to get whistled for every big hit (I have no intention on starting a Bigos war here...I know it's a hot topic and there's a lot of disagreement on his style of play..let's just leave it at that)

As for the league...ya you're probably right, although BC will be hungry

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

You have to wonder if he checked himself out knowing he was leaving.
What the heck happened to Merrimack in that third period? It looked like they took the period off. They let ND hang around and it cost them.

Great season, mc. Good to see some new blood in the tourney, and it'll be interesting to see if you can sustain the succesess moving forward. Tough ending, but nothing to be ashamed of.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

Stephane will definitely go. I'm think Cannata is definitely gone. However, if you have that line of Flanigan-Sheen-Madsen with maybe a second line of Collins-Todd-Velleca, that would not be the end of the world. Bates, Bly, Heffernan, Brodhag and some of the incoming recruits to fill out the forward lines. On defense you'd have Stollery, Heywood, Ellis, McCarthy, and the incoming recruits. I would say 4-7 is reasonable expectation as I'm hard pressed to believe that UML and PC will be anything short of utterly awful again. I also see no reason that UVM or UMass make much of an improvement and I could see Maine being awful. I think BC, BU, UNH and Northeastern will all be average. I see more early departures coming for BC and BU.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

BC yes. I think BU's done with early departures, though.

I'm not going to go out and predict who will leave early from BU, but I certainly would not be surprised if one or two more guys left. BU has always recruited the prototypical pro player, moreso than BC. Coyle, Clendening, Chiasson, Trivino, etc could all leave. Merrimack will be lucky to only have two early departures.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

hmmm. i was just thinking that he will now be back for certain. goalie is a different animal. i'd be wondering about bringing him in if i was putting together a team and just saw him totally space out of three goals that without any doubt should not have gone behind him.

just stunning.

1st goal was not his fault. pp goal that was just a rocket from the point. 2nd goal was certainly one he'd like to have back (harmless shot off glove and trickles in). third goal is just maday crashing the net and picking up the loose change, but mc had like 3 guys around the crease and it probably should have been cleared out beforehand. 4th goal should never have happened.

Great season for Merrimack and its fans. Congratulations.
I was never wishing bad for Merrimack last night, I actually wanted a HE team to win, but as a UNH fan I breathed a sigh of relief that UNH won't be facing Merrimack in the finals.

I'm not sure da costa is a lock to leave. He really didn't improve from last year as a result his stock dropped. He wasn't even ever mentioned as a serious Hobey contender. Maybe but I think MC may get him back for another season. As for Cannata, he had a heck of season, but I think the lack of high pressure games got the best of him. He wasn't stellar in the HE playoffs and wasn't in it for parts of the NCAA game. I don't think that's a case of being "checked out" but possible rather nerves / mental game. Either way the upside for Vancouver is.... As correctly pointed out they have goalies in the pipeline. Schnieder has been toiling for sometime now and was an excellent goalie.

Regarding next season, there will be time to debate the league next year. I'm not sure how your conclusions were reached but I'm going to disagree with pretty much all of it. Except that ME will be awful, I agree with that.

Finally, congrats to MC on a great season. Tough loss. Good luck next year.

you guys had a great year at the beginning of the year bet my buddy a 6 pack that you'd get home ice and told him that they could really make a run at the ncaa's :) . thnk you guys can be decent agan next year, id bet a lot of talent stays and from an NU fan here this type of season was for us 2 years ago, d say ths season helps your program tremendously in a lot of ways. frst you can't deny the exposure and now you guys can say that you are building something special at the mack and have the great results to back it up. secondly, this big game experience does wonders for the kids that stick around, i know in 08-09 most would argue we choked away our season at the end because e played like we were happy to be there and didn't have the drive to overachieve in the spotlight. this year's NU team, while not as successful, had much more of a killer instinct in big games and i think that was largely due in part to the kids who were there in 08-09 who played in the big games and remember the heart breaking loses.

you guys have a great foundation, looking forward to being pestered by you guys for years to come :)

Congrats to the Warriors on an outstanding season!! Would love to have seen them go further, but it didn't, and that's that. Let's see you right back in the hunt next year!

Tough loss last night for the Mack. Played well enough to win but the hockey gods were with the Irish last night.
Great season Mack! You'll be back.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

I was at the game last night and left very upset that you guys are not moving on. The better team did not win that game. With the experience that your guys got last night, I really hope that your players do not leave early and take it to the next level next season. I'll be following the team!

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

i dont know if i can ever recover from that blow.... this whole season led up to that ending?? its just not right, the team completely outplayed nd and deserved better, really sucks it had to end that way but thats hockey. Just sucks sooooooooooo much that amazing season and many of these players amazing carreers had to end like that.

Re: Merrimack College 2010-2011: playoff run

Congrats on a great season, MC. I was definitely pulling for you last night, and it was a punch in the gut to see that last one go in. I don't know how many times I told casual fans this year that this was not the Merrimack they remember from past years - hopefully this is a foundation on which to build future success.
