Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

Re: Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

I assume this will be the first time Merrimack is ever the higher ranked team in a game against BC? Don't think they played them when they had that 2 weeks stretch at #1.

Re: Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

Nice try last night, I was hoping your boys would pull it off, oh well. That is one impressive Merrimack goalie though, definitely not looking forward to his skill against UML. That's one piece Lowell is a little weak in this year, imo (others will disagree).

Wow, giving up 42 shots and 4 goals on your on home ice to UMass is awful. Really disappointing for a team that prides itself on defense. Too many penalties, and terrible special team play (giving up 2 ppg's and a shg). Better dig deep tomorrow night, or the chance of home ice for the 1st round will disappear fast.

after seeing him Wednesday night it's hard to believe he gave up 4, especially at Lawler

What a disaster. Just not a 60 minute effort (either Weds or Fri). Stepping up and getting chippy might be macho but it doesn't equate to game winning effort.

That one guy, 25 on Mass is huge!

Quintessential example of "As Tirronen goes, so goes Merrimack". Under siege the entire game, thoroughly dominated, and yet MC comes out with the win. Talk about stealing one. Now tonight, the Warriors are playing with house money. An occasional offensive foray would be nice. If UML has any weakness at all, it may be in net. Shoot, shoot, and shoot some more.

Well, the offense will take a big hit if this is serious: http://www.themackreport.com/news/seney-injured-in-merrimacks-win-over-lowell/

What's the situation with Seney?

Huge game if the Warriors are to have ANY chance at hosting 1st round playoff series. Gotta hold serve at home.

Re: Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

Well that was disappointing. Come out strong to start, get a penalty, and all the momentum swings to BC. Looked like the refs went WAY overboard with the penalties for the scrum/skirmish. Am I wrong, or did it seem that McCoshen escalated it? Kolquist did a very poor job on Cangelosi's goal.; left him standing alone in front. First 2 BC goals were tips, so hard to blame Tirronen.

If you told me you'd hold BC to essentially NO shots on net in the 3rd (only shot was the EN goal) I'd say I like your chances. But to have only 5 shots of your own when you are down a goal is a really pathetic offensive effort.
Still have a decent shot at getting a 1st round home series, but finishing the season with 4 on the road (2 at UVM and 2 at UNH) that's going to be a tough.

Gotta beat UConn (I think the over on this game is 2 goals!)

I agree, hopefully CT, NH, and ME have not solved our offense the way UMASS did and we can sweep a series or two. I don't think we can get past BU, but I think my main concern is with avoiding a trip to ND in the first round..

Re: Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

.....and the freefall to the bottom continues. Congrats to UConn. Tremendous goal tending and this Naas kid who just continues to be unbelievable in the clutch. MC's lack of offense is bordering on the absurd. Too many guys who can't put the puck in the net. Frustrating.

Was hoping at the break that MC could exceed expectations, but it does seem that "They are who we thought they were." A young team that can't score/finish.

Re: Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

Well what a horrible couple of weeks. 1 Win, 2 ties and 8 losses in their last 11, and the ONLY reason they even got the win and one of the ties was because Tirronen played out of his mind (UML and UVM). This is the second year in a row where the Sr. class forwards have come up incredibly small (Collins being the exception last year). Bates got dismissed and Bly was a bust last year, and this year, Jardine, Singleton and Gould have combined for a grand total of 0 goals in 84 games among the 3 of them. Not one tip, deflection, greasy goal, lucky bounce etc. Singleton hasn't had a goal in 2 years! Makes Paille look like Gretzky.

Also noticed that as a team, they have scored only 3 goals in the 1st period in league games. Are they working with a different start time or something? Screams that they are not ready to bring it from the puck drop.

Now, from a glass half full perspective, defense has been pretty solid, they haven't been blow out of any games, and there is some hope that the current freshmen and sophomores will continue to grow and improve.

We're on to Whittemore!

Re: Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

In February, Northeastern scored 42 goals to Merrimack's 10. Hard to see a way we win this series. If Raz can steal one maybe we can get to 3 games. Here's hoping "it's different in the playoffs."

Re: Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

Well, didn't see THAT coming. 1st shortie of the season, and Singleton's 1st goal in 2 years. They could have folded with Seney out and Hampus getting the gate less than a minute in, but found a way. Still WAY too many penalties and continuing to rely on Tirronen, but if it gets them the W, whatever. HE pundit Connelly thought Ras might steal a game in this series. How 'bout one more?;)
