Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

Re: Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

Disappointing game by the Warriors tonight in front of a very sparse crowd at Matthews. Came out flat in the 1st, had a couple of giveaways, and NU cashed in, one on the pp. Different story in the 2nd, as Merrimack carried the play for most of the period, and Delia steadied. Nice goal by Mansfield, and Tibbet had a couple of chances (not sure how he missed a wide open tip by as much as he did). 3rd was again, kinda flat. Some ugly play in their own zone, the D crashing into one another and giving up the puck. They got absolutely schooled at the dot, losing 49 of 72 face-offs. That's jut horrible.

Very frustrating Ras got hurt while he was playing so well. Have to figure he'll be out at least till New Years. Hopefully Delia can hold serve against Clarkson and keep us in the game against BU (though you have to worry that Eichel will run roughshod over him).

Very good fan atmosphere on Friday night in spite of the new announcer (has he ever seen a sporting event before?). Would love for the student section to learn a few chants beyond "You Suck" though.

It sucks they built the second rink instead of one larger one. It's a joke. They could have done much better.

The improvements were done using donations from someone who runs a junior team and wanted two rinks. As nice as Matthews is and how good the student section is, it's too bad that the rink was half full last night.

It's a nice recruiting tactic having the junior team there and I don't think the college incurred any major debt doing it. If some wealthy benefactor comes along someday, there's nothing preventing them from building a larger rink. But it's honestly a good match with the size of the school and alumni base right now.

Was it a concussion or different injury? Really a strange play, as it was difficult to tell (even from the replay). What makes you think he'll be out another month?
Props to Delia on the shutout today, and the continued strong play from the freshmen. Gotta get tickets to see them play the Terriers...I've seen Eichel play on TV and he certainly is a "must see" player.

Re: Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

What a great surprise! Backup goalie, freshman Colin Delia comes in and saves 51 of 52 on the weekend as the Warriors sweep! Defense still playing well, and the offense is markedly improved from last year. Appears Leblanc is finding his hockey legs with 3 goals in the last 4 games.
Huge weekend series next week with BU. Not sure the Terriers will still be #1, but they are one of the top teams in the country. Should be fun.

MC cracks the poll at 18th after the weekend sweep of Clarkson. 10-4-1 record is perhaps a little inflated as they have only beaten 1 team with a winning record (1-0 win over PC) and have been excellent at home (7-1). This weekend series with BU will be a huge test. Terriers struggled a bit this past week. Dartmouth's size appears to have given them some problems, which may bode well for the Warriors.

Whew! Warriors survive a BU pp late in OT and tie the Terriers 1-1. Absolute snipe by freshman Brett Seney, top corner glove side to put MC up early in the 2nd. BU tied it in the 3rd, just after their pp ended, when Matt Lane was able to tuck one in the corner of the net behind a prone Colin Delia. Warriors managed to keep Eichel in check. Teams went a combined 0 for 13 on the powerplay.

Good result. I'll be interested to see what they can do on BU's ice tonight.

I would think the second rink is a MONEY maker for the university in the long run if they can keep teams paying for Ice time.

First visit to your rink since it was completed. I didn't make it up there last season. Nicely done, especially the Dunkin's in the facility.

Re: Merrimack 2014-2015: Anyone?

Dare I ask if anyone is heading to Minnesota other than MM?

Though I'd love to get out there sometime, it was an awfully tough sell at this time of year. Will be interesting to see if we can catch the gophers off guard. I have to assume Ras is back in the starting slot now, since he got some playing time against BU.
