Mel Pearson-Michigan Tech's new Coach

Re: Mel Pearson-Michigan Tech's new Coach

"It is a good opportunity for Mel to get a head coaching job at his alma mater," said head coach Red Berenson. "He's been a great asset to the Michigan hockey program in his 23 years of service. We're going to miss him but part of this whole process is to help people move up and develop into head coaches. It's an opportunity that he decided was right for him." - from the CHN article.

The press conference to anounce the end of the coaching search circus is being delayed by an actual circus.

Personally, I can't trust an elephant.

Interesting read on what Mel's thoughts were with the initial offer from Tech right after the UMD loss.

On another note, I am not sure what to think of this exchange from the article as it could be taken a number of ways:

Pearson said both Michigan coach Red Berenson and Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon told him "there was some really good things about taking a head coaching job and getting that experience."

So is a return to Michigan in Pearson’s future? He has long been mentioned as the successor to Berenson, who has two years remaining on a three-year contract.

“Right now, I’m just going into it trying to get that program turned around and in order and we’ll see what happens,” Pearson said.

Re: Mel Pearson-Michigan Tech's new Coach

Yoopers Made Hockey(Hoton) =Minnesota Made Hockey (in Edina)

Houghton = Edina (where Mel played hockey)

Mel Pearson = Michigan Tech Hockey

Good luck to Mel. Solid coach, good person and a terrific recruiter.
