What happened to football?

Football was dropped in 1961 when hockey started winning NCs. DU played against Jim Thorpe in the early years of the century and went to three bowl games (Sun Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Pineapple Bowl) in the 40s, but by the early 60s, the football program was losing $100,000 a year, which is millions in today's money. Homecoming has been a hockey game for 50 years, now. The DU stadium was torn down in the 70s, but the stadium lights were donated to Englewood High School, where they still stand. DU produced 12 players that played in the NFL:
