Martin Luther day matchup! CARDS vs. Williams January 17th Scores

Re: Martin Luther day matchup! CARDS vs. Williams January 17th Scores

Norwich - Overrated. Even Prezde knows this.

Manhattanville - Have to see them play first before I make a judgement. Hopefully Platty plays them in the NCAA's. I'd like a shot at the big-bad Valiants.

Norwich is overrated a little. Not a whole lot though.

Manhattanville should be in front of them. The team that I think is most overrated is Bowdoin.

I think Norwich should be around the #6-#8 range right now.

Trots,

Why shouldn't Norwich be the measuring stick? That's the team I've seen the most this season and have to go by :)

Wouldn't you say you'd judge teams by how they did against Plattsburgh since that's the team you know most?

Because of the fact I made the trip to Oswego for the Elmira/Oswego game, I've had the opportunity that probably few around the country have to have watched the entire collection of Manhattanville, Oswego, Elmira, Castleton, Bowdoin, Norwich, Plattsburgh, Adrian all live.

Does that mean my opinion is right? absolutely not. Just calling them like I see them.

I do know this from head-to-head matchups..

Plattsburgh>Norwich
Manhattanville>Norwich

You're correct. Add Castleton to that at the moment too and that's exactly why I placed all three of them in front of Norwich in my rankings.

Re: Martin Luther day matchup! CARDS vs. Williams January 17th Scores

This is how I would rank the East right now:

1.Oswego
2.Manhattanville
3.Plattsburgh
4.Castleton
5.Norwich
6.Hobart
7.Elmira
8.Bowdoin
9.Utica
10.Neumann
But not all of them are going to the tournament. For example
(a) Does the loser of the SUNYAC final get a Pool C?
(b) If Norwich / Castleton wins the ECAC-E, does the other get a Pool C? If somebody else, who of the 2 gets a Pool C?
(c) How many West get in?
(d) Is the MASCAC a factor in Pool B? (Don't dismiss this too quickly. Take a look at the PWC keeping in mind SoS)
(e) 7/4 or 8/3??

Re: Martin Luther day matchup! CARDS vs. Williams January 17th Scores

The thing about polls is that they are a mixture of lots of people's opinions - there aren't any fixed criteria. Some voters take it more seriously than others. Probably the writers have a better take on the strength of the teams than the coaches do. To be fair, coaches really can only use their team as a measuring stick, and know very little about what happens in other leagues. How much do you think that most NESCAC coaches know about Plattsburgh except their record? Like it or not, lots of people take the rankings and just adjust up or down from the previous week. It is an imperfect system at best. When the NCAA rankings come out, we will get a peek at how the committees view the strength of the teams relative to the criteria - which is not necessarily ranking the teams in the same way the polls do. Until then, for an alternate view, look at KRACH or look at my rankings - both give a different reading than the USCHO poll does. As far as the NCAA tourney is concerned, only two things matter - how you do in the league tournament (unless you are a Pool B team), and what the NCAA thinks of you.

My rankings had nothing to do with the NCAA Tournament procedures.

I know this was stated somewhere not too long ago, but when do the first (viewable) NCAA ranking come out?
