Stick a fork in the Ephs
4-1 Cards

Re: Martin Luther day matchup! CARDS vs. Williams January 17th Scores

Looked like today's game was a walk in the park for the Cards. They knocked the air out of the Ephs sails early on, and basically appeared to have a lovely afternoon skate. Great job by the Cards for easily handling Williams; and Leis came up with some great saves as well.

I'll be looking forward to seeing some real competition back at the Stafford (should be a great game Friday night against Geneseo) - but for now here is a link to my recap of tonight's game:

I thought Williams was a good team that moved the puck very well on their powerplay and I thought they were scrappy and worked hard the whole game. I certainly can see why they are on the top of their league. Cards worked hard also for this one but I didn't see it as a "walk in the park." Just my opinion, though.

It was 2-1 after one period. How did they knock the wind out of Williams' sails early? Yes they scored two quick ones but Williams was very much still in it after 20 minutes.

I love how its one extreme or the other with you. There is no in between.

Some real competition?

Should we bring Buffalo State, Geneseo, Morrisville, and Oswego all back in because they all own wins over your Cardinals so far.

Well, yeah, that would make them competition wouldn't it? Your dig at Plattsburgh was actually the correct answer to your question.

It wasn't a dig at Plattsburgh. I just can't fathom the fact that he has the audacity to call the 7th ranked team in the nation "no competition" when Plattsburgh has four losses in league play.

I'm not saying Plattsburgh isn't a good team. I've seen them play, I know they are a good team. But this uppity attitude that Plattsburgh is so great and the teams they have played recently aren't, wreaks of elitism.

Had Plattsburgh scored that 3rd goal shorthanded before Williams PP goal, it probably would have been a lot uglier then 5-1. You would think a 6th (not 7th) ranked team would put up a better effort then a 4 goal loss to a 13th ranked Plattsburgh team. 5 on 5 Williams was not in the same game as Plattsburgh. Of their 25 shots wasn't it 11 or 12 on the 4 power play opportunity...?? That leaves them with 13 or 14 shots on goal 5 on 5....not to impressive from the 6th best team in the nation. I think thats what TacoRob is talking about.

As far as Geneseo, Oswego, Morrisville and Buff State go...three words........Bring...Them....On......

You'd think the 13th ranked Plattsburgh team would have no problem handling little old unranked Elmira at home with the Soaring Eagles playing their first game of the semester and Plattsburgh playing its fourth or fifth?

You guys complain about where you're ranked and then try and use that as the focal point of your argument. You can't have it both ways.

Anyone who's watched eastern hockey this year knows Plattsburgh is a very good team and should be ranked higher than 13th right now.

BTW- Who would you put in front of Manhattanville right now?

....Castleton, Elmira, Plattsburgh...Manhatanville is helped by their record so far...like I said before, the 4th best team in the East shouldn't have that many close games against inferior competition. They are probably 9-14 in my poll right now. They have some huge games coming up...lets see if they make it out .500.....

And no, I expected a close game with the way Elmira is playing now...just as the way Plattsburgh has been playing. Elmira and Plattsburgh are two of the top 5 teams in the East right now. Plattsburgh and Elmira sovled their early season issues (amazingly enough both came against Fredonia) ....as I said above, Elmira would be in my top 5 right now.

After reading all these posts I have come to the conclusion that the NCAA has the right idea with no poll until late in the season. There are arguments here that can be supported for most the teams in this USCHO poll. I will admit though, I have a hard time understanding how Norwich is third and Platssburgh 13th. As far as M'ville, I really do not think they are as strong as you believe they are, but they are indeed a top ten team.

BTW, most times most Plattsburgh fans do not agree with TacoRob.

Its RIT's fault!!!

I've seen Castleton and Manhattanville both play Norwich. Manhattanville thoroughly dominated Norwich. Castleton outplayed Norwich and won in overtime. Mville beat Norwich 5-1,tying the worst home loss in Kreitzberg's history. They also took care of Adrian with no issues. Even Oswego's juggernaut team of last year was 3-2 with Adrian in the third.

There aren't many teams in D-III if any that could have a better top defensive pair. Mickey Lang might be the best forward in the country. They have four lines that can score on you and beat the crap out of you and their goaltending doesn't hurt them.

The worst thing Mville has going for them is their rink dimensions. Now that they have guys that can skate and be playmakers, their rink really works against them. I think they'll prefer being on the road for the playoffs. They've won two straight titles in Elmira.

Re: Martin Luther day matchup! CARDS vs. Williams January 17th Scores

This is how I would rank the East right now:

1.Oswego
2.Manhattanville
3.Plattsburgh
4.Castleton
5.Norwich
6.Hobart
7.Elmira
8.Bowdoin
9.Utica
10.Neumann

I guess I just don't understand why Norwich is the measuring stick everyone is supposed to go by. Yeah, they're the defending national champs. But we can only go by this season. What grants Norwich the measuring stick rights?
