Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

But what was the extent of Thing 1's injuries? Was he mortally wounded? 200 rounds fired. There's a good chance he took a couple or 10. Hey, charge Thing 2 for concealed carry, vehicular homicide, halitosis, whatever. Just get his a*s on a gurney, ASAP.

Yeah, but the point is in the irony of it. Especially from his father's perspective who still claims they were set up and innocent. Even if that were (impossibly) true, he would have to live with the fact that one son killed the other.

That could have been a lie too. I haven't seen video, but even then one can photoshop something like that same as they did with the pictures of the boys allegedly carrying black backpacks on boylston st

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

Is the father still saying they were set up? Last I saw was a report where he urged his son to tell the authorities everything.

Assuming that the father had nothing to do with this and tried to raise his boys right, I wouldn't wish that pain upon him.

It's upon him, but it doesn't make me feel any better that it is. It's quite possible that he is another innocent victim in all of this.

Re: Marathon Killers Apprehended: the Aftermath

The WBC has not shown up at Krystale Campbell's funeral so far. In case they do, there is a massive wall of people to keep them out of sight. One person who will be there is Ronan Tynan, who will reportedly sing a song at her funeral.

Good point.

I read a very good article some time ago about close relatives of mass murderers and how they have to deal with the pain and society's view of them.

More often than not, the WBC never shows up after claiming they will. They did show up in Rochester, NY after a high profile car crash involving high school girls. But, they did not show up in other cases where they said they were going to.

True. I believe Indonesia has the largest Muslim population.
Even though I know it's a fact, it still sometimes surprises me that Indonesia is the fourth-most populous country in the world.
Yeah, but those from chechnya aren't exactly known for their anti Israel or anti Semitic acts. They hate the Russians.
Watching the Rangers game yesterday afternoon, between periods they were showing clips from the ceremony at the Bruins game. One of the crowd shots had a fan holding up a Russian flag. Maybe it's because I'm an ***hole, but I imagined that person thinking "We warned you about Afghanistan, and we warned you about Chechnya. Maybe next time you'll listen?"

Slime #1 Suspect in Unsolved Triple Murder

"Given how religious the older brother was, and we have heard information from the college about how the younger brother was 'a pot head' is there a chance that (Slime #1) was angry that Brendan was selling his brother marijuana? We don't know,'' said one of those sources. "But we are certainly interested in finding out."

Looks like the Feds are claiming jurisdiction on Thing #2. He will be tried in Federal Court as a civilian, not an enemy combatant.

He has been charged with using a weapon of mass destruction and faces the death penalty if convicted.

A good lawyer will argue that a bomb is not a weapon of mass destruction. If I'm the lawyer, plead guilty to 3 counts of murder and get life without parole.

I think this is the right call. The only thing that I don't think I'd agree with is the WMD part. I don't think a pressure cooker bomb qualifies as a WMD. Besides that, we're talking about a US citizen, committing a horrible crime on US soil. I would not consider him an enemy combatant. He'll get his desevrings going this route.

About the family, it is really annoying seeing how some members appear to be claiming it is a coverup, but I can see why it is happening. I wouldn't want to believe that a close family member is capable of doing something like that either, and I'd be clinging to any hope I had that he/she was not responsible.

When this is all said and done, and the younger brother is tried and sentenced, this could end up being an excellent case study in human psychology. How did this kid get turned into a terrorist? How did he go from being a normal college kid to trying to kill hundreds of people? If we can understand this, which I doubt we'll ever be able to completely, we are one step closer to being able to prevent it, and possibly saving the next kid from turning into an evil terrorist a-hole.

don't forget to add one count of killing a law enforcement officer.

As for a bomb being (or not being) a weapon of mass destruction: 3 killed, 13 maimed, nearly 200 wounded. The point of the bomb (how it was build and where it was placed) was to inflict the maximum number of casualties possible. Just because they picked a location where significant medical first responders and resources were already at hand is what prevented the death toll from likely reaching 10 or more.

Agreed. How does one define a WMD? What makes this pressure cooker bomb a WMD? I want to know where the lines have been drawn and why they were drawn in that specific location.

I don't think there is any hard definition on what kind of damage, or loss of life is required for a weapon to be a WMD, but for me, when I think of a WMD, I'm thinking of something that has the capability of killing thousands. A nuclear bomb, weaponized pathogens, chemical gasses, etc.

The fact that I don't think this was a WMD has no impact on the events that actually happened. It was a terrible act of terrorism, and the perpetrators, known and unknown(if they exist) need to be punished to the full extent of the law.

Afterall, if pressure cooker bombs were WMD's, Dubbya didn't deserve nearly as much **** as he got. ;)
