Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

OK. This is what has to happen for Maine to miss the tournament.

Hockey East: Lose to BU on Friday after BC loses to Providence. Providence to beat BU.
AND
ECAC: Colgate or Harvard to win the autobid.
AND
WCHA: Wisconsin beats Denver tonight, NoDak on Thursday, the Gophers on Friday and win Saturday.
OR
The winner of Tech-SCSU upsets their opponents on both Friday and Saturday.

Oh, and Bowling Green also has to defeat Michigan on Friday and then win the CCHA Tournament on Saturday.

That would be a hell of a parlay.

I can see one or maybe two of those happening. Wisconsin is on a roll and who knows what will happen in the ECAC, but it's hard to see Providence beating BC and nearly impossible to see Bowling Green winning a pair at the Joe.

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Been a long time coming. Congrats to the boys for putting this together. Congrats to Sully :D

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

I'll give the coaches credit. And since [blank] rolls uphill, you can read that as giving credit to Whitehead. :)

obviously Whitehead deserves a lot of credit.
I wish that I could have seen the game, but some emergencies are more important than even a Maine hockey game.

Good to see Spencer getting points on both goals.
and while I have not look at all of the messages in this thread, I have not seen where Sweeper has applauded my Brice, for the game winner in this GAME AND IN THE GAME THAT CLINCHED HOME ICE.

I can honestly say that if Tim wins one more game, I will not call for his head any longer.
I will be happy with whatever changes he has made, and as long as those changes remain in place, I will support him AND the team.

(I ain't planning on pigs flying')

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

The TD Garden congratulates Maine on their quarterfinal win and thanks you in advance for filling their building next Friday night. ;) :)

Personally, I'd love to see a BC/Maine final on Saturday.
(so we can stuff it to you again! LOL)

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Great win for the Black Bears!! Maine's defense was outstanding as well. Maine's few weaknesses were not being able to score on several odd man rushes in the third period. MC's defense and Canatta had a lot to do with that.. This team has heart, chemistry and tremendous resilience. The season isn't over yet, but the players and coaching staff have achieved two goals. Home ice in the quarter-finals and a trip to the Hockey East semi-finals in Boston. It's really sad that there are posters on this thread who refuse to give Tim any credit. When the team wins, the players deserve all the credit. When the team loses, Tim deserves all the blame. People don't seem to understand or recognize that they can't have it both ways. It's really foolish to have that mindset and totally illogical.

I just saw the goal off Anthoine's skate off the DVR. Mark's skate was going forward when he was trying to stop and the puck went off his skate. It wasn't a deliberate kicking motion but the skate was going toward the net. Can't wait to be at the TD Garden and GO Black Bears!!!!

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Denver just knocked out Wisco in ot. 1 less option.

And in the process, Denver's win bumps Maine up to 10th, ahead of North Dakota. ND still has the comparison v Maine, but it rests on their RPI advantage. At the moment, that's 0.0007. That one could flip easily if things go right next weekend.

Enough with the pessimism. Now I want to know (from the pwr gurus) what it takes to get Maine in the 2nd band (seeded in top-8). :D

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Honestly, 2 seed, 3 seed I'm happy with whatever puts Maine in a band that sticks them in either Worcester or Bridgeport.

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

This. I don't even understand why they need an embellishment penalty. Just call the thing unsportsmanlike conduct and not call the trip/slash/hook whatever.

Exactly.

It's completely asinine to negate a clear infraction of the rules because it's victim appeared to have fallen too hard, cried-out in fake pain, or something equally irrelevant... It's like saying that if you are mugged on the street in front of a cop, you'd better not complain too much, or you'll go to jail along with your assailant. As you say, diving should only be called if a player tries to pull a non-existent penalty out of thin air.

While I'm ranting, I have to say that they have to clear up the puck-off-the-skate call, too. Either say that you can kick the dam thing in with all your might, or disallow any caroms off an offensive player's skate... Make it clear-cut, FCS!

No way the Maine guy displayed a "distinct kicking motion"; he was putting on the brakes... I'm not sure that he even knew the puck was where it was before it hit his blade. I've seen probably 10 goals waved-off this season alone because the refs always seem to look for a kick when none existed. (Just like tonight.)

Hockey is a hard game to call, granted, and it's penalties are the most punitive of any major sport... But what a huge gulf exists between how the game is called in D-1 vs. the NHL. (My point being that there are clearly people on Earth who can usually get it right.)

This past weekend in Orono was a total embarrassment in that regard, though. MC definitely had a 7th man on the ice half the time, just by dint of the refs being so clueless. (Dennehy played them like a nickel flute, wonder if Jackie will do the same?)

Ayuh. Playing Maine in the Gahden. Truly the way life should be. Hope to see a bunch of you folks at Sullys before the game Friday. On St Pattys, no one allowed in Sullys after 5 withou HE Championsip ticket.

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Good Analysis!

A game just like Friday in that Maine stayed out of the box and controlled tempo. D did a good job clearing the net front to not allow second chances. Still don't understand how Anthoine's goal is disallowed. Rule is can not be kicked in with a distinct kicking motion. He is driving the net, turns skates to stop as Cannata kicks it and goes off Anthoine and in. Maine showed resilience and played a good third. Hope Parker is not injured as bad as it looked, the kid can play.

Power play will need to get better for BU.

And oh yeah, we're going back to the TOURNAMENT, and by that I mean the NCAA's. Despite how badly Dennehy outcoached Tim tonight! Again as a non-apologist why is it on the coaches when we lose and just the players when Maine wins????

I give everybody credit, and Dan Sullivan's improvement has been key!!
Yes lets HOPE the injury to Parker is not serious...he looked to be in pain and was unable to put much weight on his leg/knee area...he's a high energy/hustle player that may not be seen on the score sheet but is a very important player to say the least...hopefully he mends quickly.
