Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

You know......watching these Regionals on ESPN3.......there's no reason why Portland shouldn't host a Regional in the renovated CCCC provided it has at least 6K seats for hockey. These Regional crowds season after season are absolutely pathetic. There are exceptions (like when Maine is in Worcester or Minnesota is in St. Paul)........but I have no doubt that a Portland Regional would be an instant sell-out the moment that tickets went on sale.

Don't be so sure. Multiple sources have said large swaths of seats remain unsold for the StP regional. They priced it at $100 for the two days, or a one-day pass for $57. The Gophers and the X have been all over Twitter trying to sell tickets. I just went on the TicketMaster site and got 20 seats together in the lower bowl. It's all about choosing the right price point and recognizing that not every seat is equal. A nosebleed seat and a front row seat at center ice should not both be $100.

ETA: While one account held the 20 seats in section 112 for purchase, I logged on with another browser and got 20 more tickets in section 126. Ticket sales are crap, even with both Minnesota and North Dakota playing there.

They're still gonna get 10-12K.

Just goes to show - if at first you don't succeed, try try try try try try try try try try try try try try again. The 14th time's the charm.

Wow unbelievable. Of all the regionals you'd think that's the one that would be close to sold out. Still the economy? Congrats Lowell!!!

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Good news. I'm 0 for 3 in my bracket so far tonight. And I've got UMn-D tomorrow (I was picking with my - apparently lame - brain, not my heart).

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

This team has it. Has to play nasty and realize they have within them the same spirit. The two tone blue. The flip up the ice from Garth... changed the game and the natty from Monty. And the unhearlalded snipe from Gufstaston. And last but not least Alfie. How can we forget? Only because we choose too. But rest assured this is a MAINE team. I have faith... The dogs will come out and they'll be lead by Diamond. ;)

It's "UMD" and there is plenty of room on the bandwagon.

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Hey Black Bears, good luck tomorrow against Minny-D. Although you probably are hoping for an Air Force upset of BC, a Maine-BC rematch would make for some interesting and entertaining hockey. Go Bears!

I've got Michigan, and they're losing 2-1. Looking even better for us beating UMn-D.

Go Maine! Beat UMn-D!!

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

We have to go up against the defending champions... and then the number one team to go through. ..... what a mess. Jeesh why should we try??? Except that it doesn't matter. ***** please! Something easily proven wrong by hard work and spirit. Something inside says so... something inside says i didn't work this hard to lose now. Something inside says f no, something inside says i chose this sweater... and that sweater chose you. Your team. Take hold of it. It won't come easy. If you don't have the best of everything, make the most of what you have! Work hard and things will come to you! Joey! Take the team and drive like hell, you have the spirit of a Mainer, now drive...

Saw a CHN tweet that said 1.5% of brackets entered in their contest got all four games today. Don't feel bad.

I agree. I have been to many Regionals, and while the announced attendance has often been 12-15K, there are generally no where near that many actual fannies in the seats.

I am coming around to the idea of having the #1 seeds host. That situation is much more equitable than having Minnesota hosting as a lower seed, for example, and the place (anyplace) would be full and rocking.

Say what you will about the venues having short notice, but I have no doubt that a week is sufficient time to get ready. If somebody has to reschedule the Junior Ice Capades in order to get this done, nobody is likely to die in the process.

I was stuck in Boston last weekend and when I realized there wasn't a bar in that city I was going to get into, I went to the HE final instead. I was shocked at how well Maine traveled. Quite impressive, and fun fans too. Outnumbered BC fans in Boston. Reminded me of North Dakota. Anyways, just thought I'd mention that. I can't cheer against fellow nacho UMD, but should Maine move on, they'll be easy to cheer for.

As long as they keep scheduling games in the middle of the **** day, arenas will never be full. The 11am NCAA basketball games don't sell out either, even if you count the students packing the stands. But we can't all skip class to watch the game.

It's worth noting that last week BU and (I'm pretty sure) BC were both on spring break, so a lot of fans weren't able to attend. But yes, Maine is the best travelling fan base in Hockey East by a good stretch. Plus, they can hop the Downeaster and end up literally in the basement of the Garden. You can argue that's easier than taking the Green Line from BU or BC.
