Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Gee Wally (sorry had to do it) I thought you were more level headed than this! Really same old Timmay team? Let's rewind the schedule! Going into the year much of the complaint was our record vs. the other big 3! So we go 2-1 vs. each of them! The only one we had at home was BC, BU on the road and UNH one win was at a neutral location. They win the series vs. the Mack, who they had not defeated all year, get back to the Garden and win again against BU to get to the Championship and this is the same ole Timmay? Well same ole if you mean his first 5 years, but certainly not the last 5!

Let's leave the coaches out for a moment. This TEAM deserves a boatload of credit. They show up, they have improved, they play with confidence and as a team. I expect them to do so again vs. Duluth and will be in the house to cheer them on.

For some people the bar continues to be raised. I.E. if they can beat BU, BC, UNH, then only if they make the NCAA and only if they get to the Garden, then only if they beat BU, and now, only if they beat UMD.

Let's say they do and then lose to BC or possibly Air Force, some will still be calling for Tim's head. As I said at the start of the year I gave up my apologist status, but I am still a realist!!!! We are playing on BONUS time at the moment. Please stand-up and give yourself a pat on the back if you thought Maine would have accomplished all this when the season started!!

It's been a nice run and you know what, it's not over! Anyone familiar with Out of the Woods knows the next line "It's not over!"

Look forward to enjoying watching another game, this time in Worcester.
If they lose to BC in the regional final, it will be a great season, simple as that. Like I said my expectation changed once they beat BU and BC, didn't even think about UNH:D, No doubt this team has improved over the course of the season, really beyond what I thought they'd do so props to them. Several players have really grown, maybe all of them have? I think ABB and 1969 may have it right, this ain't your fathers Oldsmobile but it can be fun just the same:)

One other thing, you're probably right that the bar keeps changing

Great that all us Mainahs get to watch but will the quality of this broadcast be as poor as it was for the Merrimack series???
If so I am trying the ESPN3 option?
The article says all games are produced and distributed by ESPN so here's to hoping we don't see Tuell and John Small doing the broadcast and more important here's to hoping the broadcast is clearer than the fuzzy picture 2 wks ago at the Alfond:confused:

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

It should be much higher quality and it won't be your own announcers. Last year in the northeast regional, it was the UNH guy...parkhurst.

The video given to WABI might be higher quality but 005-02 is standard def channel so.

Right, the CW is not a HD channel and Tuell and Small will be out of the mix with ESPN using their team of announcers and color people.

That'd be nice. Not sure I could afford the tickets. :) If I knew for sure those old bahstids from BC werent going to be there, I might. I would like to see the UMD matchup. You going?

I am taking my 9 y.o. to his first NC$$ tourney games... Speaking of old BC bahstids -- we will be visiting with Mr. Profromdover

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

My $0.02...

I've seen UMD, BC and Air Force three times each, at a minimum... And my take is that Maine has a brutal draw.

Duluth really doesn't take a back seat to Maine in any department. It'll take a great effort and a few perfect bounces to win that one. (I have UMD winning in my bracket; it's a no-brainer from what I've seen.)

If Maine should advance, we all know about BC, but I won't write off AF, either... They play a frenetic run and gun style. The Falcons aren't deep in terms of hands, but they are superbly conditioned. It wouldn't shock me at all to see them give BC a real scare, or to even pull off the monumental upset.

Great field; probably the toughest one in the Regionals, never mind the lone AQ being sited there.

I'd be willing to say the NC comes out of this bracket. I realize thats not much of a stretch, but chances seem very good to me.

BC had better bury AF early or else that contest becomes very scarey for the Eagles methinks. The Maine-UMD game should just be a classic college hawkey game.

I get ESPN3 through the Xbox and I find it to be excellent quality, noticably better than a regular def channel

I'm flying my youngest son, the Army Captain, in on Saturday to join us!

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Thought Abbott was a "no problem" go for Saturday...what to hell is the BDN printing?
Its a concussion, somedays it might look good other days not so good, I doubt Tim is going to say either way until he dresses for the game or not. You get one melon, they aren't going to ruin a kids future for one NCAA game.

In the media teleconference earlier this morning Whitehead said they're preparing for the game as if Abbott can't play, but that if he is able then it'll be a bonus. He seemed like he knew the question was coming but tried to shy away from giving any definitive answer.
