Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

See some of you guys over at the "Greatest Bar" later today. Look for the guy walking into the Bear's den wearing a Merrimack hat. LOL And be nice to me :)

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Heading south. Maybe i'll run into some of you nutcases down there. Go Bearz!

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

The biggest factors are: Stats, Class, Scenario *meaning...did you propel a bottom dweller to success?, or in Maine/Spencer's case, bringing a program in a drought back to the NCAAs etc*, academics, and value to your team *would your team succeed at the same level this year without you?*

Your list and my list looks pretty similar.

Here are my obviously unbiased requirements for the Hobey:

- Your first name must be Spencer
- You must play for a team wearing navy/baby blue
- Your head coach must be named Tim
- Academic achievement: Have a GPA > Chris Bourque's GPA at BU
- Bring your team from nowhere to the NCAAs. Obviously Connolly can't claim to have done this! When you have never won any championships, the big NCAA berth looks all that much more amazing. It's a tremendous accomplishment obviously.
- Class. Being a senior means you're better.
- Score a good amount of points. Total points are very important! But obviously if a guy has more goals then they are NOT important. Also, competition specifics in regards to who they score points/goals against will be considered as follows: UVM/UAH will not be discredited while ECAC teams will be.
- Value to team. Who wouldn't miss a Hobey finalist if he wasn't on your team? 57 D1 teams not from the state of Maine, that's who.

As you can see, Abbott pretty much nails every single category. He's a lock IMO!!!!!!! Give Hobey Abbott the trophy now!

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Haven't won anything yet but thats a heck of a performance by the team. Carried the play for a majority of the game. Sully was awesome, ONeill finally breaks out, Mangene killed BU with his speed. Thinking back to last fall I can't believe this is the same team, congrats to them for the turnaround. Hope Spence is OK , that was one great pass back to ONeill

Agreed. It's unbelievable. I think it also shows that many of us were right about the preparation/motivation/coaching thing though.;)

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Talking heads seem to be saying BC the team to win tomorrow. Nice sandbagging there. ;)

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

So happy for Will. Tremendous performance on the big stage. Two guys with two goals and I thought Mangene was probably the MVP of the game. Every other shift when Spencer went down. What a motor on that kid.

Tough nights for a couple of the D but that's life. Tough start for Sully but man was he good in the last 10 minutes. He's been awesome in the last ten minutes of big games lately....tonight, UNH and games 1/3 vs. Merrimack. Such a good sign of his maturity.

Gonna be tough to beat BC without Abbott. Feels almost impossible. If he's not OK for next weekend....poof. We're gonna wonder what could've been for a long long time.

Tonight was unbelievable! I love that Anthoine scored the winner as he took Abbott's spot on the first PP unit. I'm thinking Mangene goes on the first line, Parker moves up to the second, and Cerratani goes on the third line in Parker's place. I don't really love the idea of mixing up three lines but can't see them putting cerratani or leen with flynn and diamond. Do we get a #1 seed with a win tomorrow night?

Maine has a chance for a #1 seed with a win. Have to hope for Harvard to defeat Union to snag that last #1 seed. Maine can finish anywhere from #3 to #12. A win tomorrow and they will be a 1 or 2 seed, lose tomorrow and they are a 3 seed. They cannot be a 4 seed.

Word is that Spencer Abbott might have a concussion. If so, we won't be seeing him tomorrow.

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Great win for the BB's tonight. BC has won 14 straight and are keeping teams to two or less goals. Their PP is insane. They are the team to beat. Good luck maybe we can have a rematch at the beach! :D I grew up with Timmy Whitehead so I always keep an eye on you guys.

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Looked to me that Abbott got his neck wrenched while being wrestled to the ice. Didn't see anything that looked like a concussion-type injury. (Hope I'm right about that... Even though he can't pass the puck for the life of him, he's not so bad. :))

Heggs was brutal again. He never seems to calm down and make the safe pass.

The effort was great tonight, overall, until Timmy went into a shell with about 7 left to play. Danny saved Maine's bacon several times down the stretch. I'd prefer that Maine be allowed to keep playing for the whole 60 minutes, right? They are clearly better than BU this year, and it's been a long while since I could say that with a straight face.

He got an elbow right smack in the head, it should have been called as should several other contact to the head penalties on BU.

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Definitely look like a concussion-type injury to me. Do Hockey East refs usually let they play continue with a guy down? that was ridiculous. Anyways, Maine is insane if they play Abbott in tonight's game. With their bid next weekend assured, why bother? A conference title is all well and good, but any chance of Maine making it to Tampa obviously depends on the health of their best player.

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

Tremendous number of Maine fans in attendance last night at the TD Garden. Even more than two years a go. Incredible how this team believes in one another and has developed over the season. Maine has an additional incentive tonight as they were defeated two years a go by BC. Can't wait to be at the Garden and for the game to start. It's going to be a great one! Go Black Bears!

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

This is what Maine hockey is supposed to be; playing in the Hockey East final and looking forward to the NCAA tournament with a chance at competing for the national championship! Let's keep it going boys.

Was at the game. Atmosphere and Maine's play was electric with all the Maine fans it seemed like an Alfond game. I thought BU had a size advantage and perhaps more overall depth, but Maine had the individual stars who really stepped up and along with Sully's play in the 3rd, that was the difference. We can beat BC even without Abbott. He's a fabulous player as we all know but in any one game, one player, is not always the difference in one game. A win isn't critical anyway. We are playing with house money.

Re: Maine thread (cont) - Hobey Abbott goes Dancing

If you look at the replay, the Abbott injury certainly does not appear to be due to serious blow to the head. Looks more like knees buckling/ankles?

I wondered about that too - Bunyon turned right around and looked at Abbott down and let play continue. I'm not sure what the rules say there - anybody?
