If true it just stinks because any success Montgomery has at Denver will hover over Corkum, or anyone else, the way Jeff Jackson hovered over Timmy. I realize that Jackson is in a whole different world than these 2 as far as experience, resume, etc, but every time Bob loses a series there will be "Should've got Monty" posts and Bob deserves better, if he is indeed the guy.

Apparently there's a rumor going around that Maine's baseball coach let it out over two weeks ago that Coach Whitehead was fired when he made a late night phone call to complain to a softball coach about why his daughter didn't make the cut on a team coached by the person on the other end of the phone. Maine's baseball coach let the cat out of the bag early (before the media announced it) to that youth softball coach that Whitehead was fired, who happened to be friends with Whiteheads wife, and that's how Whitehead knew he was being fired because he wasn't made aware of it before then according to the rumor going around.

The UMaine athletic department has a lot of issues to deal with at this point. Even though Corkum certainly would make a great head coach, it seems as though decisions were being made in back rooms and probably have already been made, and saying there will be a search is just a way to make the public think they're doing their jobs. Montgomery was never contacted probably not because the suits were inept but because they had other plans all along.

Knew Jimmay would be offered the DU job. They're not stupid out there.

If I knew Steve Abbott's address, I'd mail him a (slightly used) Nike replica jersey. Figure he's now got more use for it than I do. I'm sure the address is public info, but I can't be arsed to look it up.

Not to rub salt in the wound, but did it ever occur to you Mainiacs that maybe Montgomery would much rather coach at DU than Maine? Maine may have been at the top of the mountain a generation ago, but it's probably a lot closer to an LSSU these days than it is to DU. Montgomery has to realize that it's going to be like taking candy from a baby recruiting at DU vs trying to recruit at Maine and he would probably rather coach top young talent vs the overage kids that Maine goes after. Furthermore, he probably also realizes that he will always be measured against the success that Shawn Walsh had, the likes of which will almost certainly never be repeated. DU is also a more prestigious school in a much more exciting location and has better facilities. Maine is still considered a big time hockey school for sure, but probably not to the extent that most of you fans want to think it is.

I don't agree with most of your posts, but in this case you are close to being right.:( Maine will still compete and this year's team will be good.

Similar problem now at Maine. Fans wanted Monty. Whoever it is now is screwed again.
If Maine hired York, you guys would run him outa the building. :D

Possible, but irrelevant.

If anyone at the university had a clue, they'd have fired Whitehead after the dismal start, made Corkum interim coach back in December, and run the search the minute Maine's season was over.

It's not like the team started strong and face planted in the 2nd half of the season. Ironically, Maine hockey was quasi respectable from the holidays on. There was no reason to fire the guy in April that wasn't also valid last November.

The point being, Maine should have had an offer out by last week - whether to Montgomery, Corkum, or whoever.

This Maine fan is more annoyed that the search seems to be a charade.

That's the other thing that's sad about this. It's ridiculously unfair to Corkum.

If there were a search, and Corkum were chosen over Montgomery, I'd be mildly surprised, but I'd give things a chance.

Unfortunately, now, with the all-too-plausible indications that there was never any serious intent to hold a broad search, the only way I'll believe in the legitimacy of the search is if someone *other* than Corkum gets the offer.

Talk about scoring an own-goal... :/
