Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I guess I look at it just slightly differently. I think Steve needs to make a recommendation to Ferguson first. If it is to cut bait, then Ferguson has to determine whether or not the reasons justify the $190,000 expenditure and the political hit from the nerds. If I were Ferguson, I wouldn't give Steve carte blanche to write that check.

i agree that abbott would need to justify his decision to ferguson before the final decision/check writing is done, but what happens if abbott goes through his evaluation, it becomes clear to everyone (whitehead, players, staff, etc.) that abbott no longer wants whitehead. Abbott goes to ferguson and he says "sorry, steve, but there's no money to make the move." now you've got a coach that sees the writing on the wall that he's almost certainly not going to be extended, and becomes the ultimate example of a lame duck...

i just think the eval is foolish without some sort of assurance from ferguson that money will be made available if the decision is to cut bait...

The "evaluation" should have already been completed. This is just another horse**** move by the Mickey Mouse Athletic Department. Go to Ferguson, tell him what you want and end this.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

What you fail to realize is that while Maine does have some good players, other teams have BETTER players. 3 BC recruits who just made the NTDP are all top ten, if not top five, 97 DOB's in the country, so you're going to need more than guys like Rutt and the Swavely brothers to compete with them on a regular basis. It's no coincidence that Maine was at the top of the mountain when it had a roster filled with guys by the name of Kariya, Ferraro, Montgomery, etc.

Yeah, they were also top of the mountain with a roster filled with guys by the name of Ben Guite, Peter Metcalf, Marcus Gustafson, etc. Or Shawn Wansborough, Dan Shermerhorn, Tim Lovell, etc. And on and on.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I still don't get the connection there. It has to be more than meets the eye. Then again, how do we know Ted's heart is in the same place his father's was? Harold was the patron saint of Maine hockey...maybe Ted has other interests. If this "evaluation" is being done to justify the decision to some boosters, it's even worse than I thought. Based on what I heard months ago, Abbott was preparing for this and should have been ready to go when the season ended. There should be no reason for an extended evaluation.

Except perhaps you don't want to make such a decision in the middle of the NCAA tournament. Right now, that's the big deal in college hockey. either ithe announcement takes the focus away from where it should rightfully be, the tournament(or such news atmaine would have a decade ago), or it gets lost in the weeds. Once the tourney's over is the right time to makew such an announcement.

Plus, the USHL season is also over then. :D

fwiw, UAA didn't wait... fired Shyiak yesterday

but you're right, ushl doens't finish up for a little bit longer

That crew looks like the Russian Red Army team from the 80's compared to the bunch of vagabonds on the current roster.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Maybe so, but there ain't a whole lot of stacked teams in college hockey anymore. If you're looking at the teams in the NCAA tourney today, there's really not all that much separating them from what Maine could be. Maine's never gonna be like they were in 1990-93, but then no one is. But they can be comparable to the best programs out there as the game exists today. I mean, c'mon, Lowell. Yeah, they're no '93 Maine either, but they're a step away from a final four, and they don't have that much over the current Maine team. Except behind the bench.

I think your right that they are waiting for it to be just about Maine Hockey and not to be the Side-Show during the NCAA's and Frozen 4...tick/tock/tick..............3 weeks will be here quicker then we think.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Agreed TIMMAY is a BIG part of the problem, but there still needs to be a serious upgrade in talent for Maine to get back to respectability.

Of course...don't you think there will be a change "IF" there's a change behind the Bench in Recruiting...I don't think that a NEW Coach will stay the course and will have his IDEA's going foward, not much sense to think they'll will not try some avenues in recruiting that has been either dismissed or not taken by this Present Coaching Staff. This is going to be a rebuilding process, nobody here is fooling themseleves...but all in all it will be(if it happens)a postive step forward...(Clock time: Less then 3 weeks and...).

Isn't Timmay responsible for recruiting now?, Its his team, I don't hear him calling Dan or Bobby head coaches. He is in charge and if recruiting sucks he needs to fix it. Too bad it will never happen with him in charge

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

No chit Wally, I was responding to the people who keep on suggesting that there's plenty of talent on the roster.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

There's a lot of good, exciting, fast paced. hard hitting hockey being played this weekend. Wish we were there...... sigh.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

So, guaranteed first time title winner? Yale, Lowell, Quinnipiac, Union, St. Cloud, Miami. Or does Yale have one in antiquity?

That is pretty amazing. I don't even see a championship game appearance among them.
