Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Cav is not the answer. 0/20 on HC jobs and not close to what Maine needs. No. The players you say is exactly what maine needs and he gets is bs. of course we would like the Kreiders and Dumoulins of the world, the Atkinsons etc. They are not coming. they were going to BC since they were 10. My cat could have recruited them.

Did your cat tell you that Malcolm Lyles was super awesome and will be in the NHL HOF soon?

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Surely lyles has been signed to an NHL deal by now, right? IMO, the one big disadvantage for someone like cav is that other programs know there's always the possibility he goes back to bc when york retires. And let's not judge him off 30 minutes against bu, not when they looked just as bad against union with york in charge. Yes, he's missed out on a couple/few jobs but you could do a lot worse than him.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

So -- fair to say I had it backwards? Cav has the inside track to replace York, which explains why Brown was interviewing at DU?

If that's the case, and it's more likely that Brown gets lured away . . . I think hoky's point would stand. Cav seems more interesting, because he was there from the beginning. And "from the beginning" is a pretty good description of where Maine's next coach will start. BC was a well-oiled machine by the time Brown joined the staff. I'm sure working for York for 10 years is great experience, but I'm not sure how well that translates to rebuilding a program, never mind a program at a small public university. DU probably was the right sort of job . . .

was always a fan of Malcolm.......just did not understand why he did not see more playing time at BC...............always was pushed to the side..........was always physical when younger........thought his older brother had more potential...........maybe what hurt him was that he always left too soon an was not consistent with a specific team..........have to admire his drive to succeed though...............
Good luck Malcolm

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Why - so BC can throw him under the bus, like he just did to TW?

Poor ole Timmay .... sniff, sniff. We should all hold hands and pray for happier times for him. Lost his job and many called him out for the poor job he did...sniff, sniff, what is wrong with people these days, sniff, sniff SOOOOOO mean :( Did you send him a feel better card Chuck ? You should.

all bear, you are in Preston? I spent some time in Lancashire about 8 years ago. Had a wonderful time -- stayed in the village of Thurnam near Lancaster and spent time in Lancaster, Glasson Docks, Skipton, Blackpool, and Windermere. Also made a short trip up to a ruined castle in the country near Dumfries Scotland (Caerlaverock Castle). I'd love to go back sometime.

Lyles problem is that he can never get out of "summer hockey" mentality and play within the context of a system. He looks uncomfortable playing defense as, quite simply, he doesn't seem to understand his responsibilities and lacks awareness.

That being said, he is an incredible pure skater with a great shot and a nice set of hands. He has an NHL skill set, with a club hockey level hockey IQ.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Fiqure8, he really didn't play at all this year for lowell either. He's fast, I'll give him that.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

Most likely when a NEW Coach comes in,he will hire his own Assistant Coaches, and that won't include Corkum or Kerlucke...not like Denver keeping their Assistants after hiring Montgomery.

Actually, if I read the article right the Denver Assts are staying on.

Wont get the BC job either, zero chance

He had his chance but had to many outside distractions. that is why when he went to BCHL and played for a 1000 game ex nhl old pro and had nothing to do but play hockley, he was a first team all star. Gets back to Boston and loses a little focus. Coaches need conformists. Have to fit into a specific slot at D 1 level. What can you do.
End of the day he got a free education, played a ton of hockey, won a natl championship, several Hockey East crowns and a few Beanpots. And more importantly, accomplished more in high school hockey wise then any of you clowns will in your entire life.

He didnt get it done at Lowell but because of his skating, athleticism etc he will get a shot in AHL next year as a forward, has already been offered a couple deals. Also has been offered an F slot in Finland. He will play again and if he focuses, might just take advantage of it. If not, he can move on with his life and look back at a hockey carear ten times better then yours...

Or, he just sucked.

I can appreciate how it might seem that way from afar.

In reality, Whitehead somehow found a way to throw himself under the bus, get back in the bus to throw it in reverse, and then run over himself again. Corkum's just relaying events.

Seriously, though, in what way do you see this as a bad play for Corkum? The only, and I mean the ONLY way that Corkum even gets a hint of consideration for the job is if he can convince the committee, the university, and the fans that they should separate him from Whitehead. If he can't distance himself, he's toast.

Sure, it's high-risk, high-reward. If he doesn't become the next head coach, he's (likely?) out of a job. Some may look at his comments and compare them to some ideal standard. I bet a lot of people will recognize the situation he's in and give him a pass. This isn't the same thing as the former Union assistant talking himself out of a job after 4 days . .

No, I actually live in Newfields, NH. Did you know there also is a Newfield, ME ? Neither did I.

Re: Maine Summer 2013 - Pizza Season

I thought Corkums comments were kind of mild compared to what he could have said.

So who do you think are real candidates for the job among the names we've heard?
Gwoz
Corkum
greg Cronin
?
?
I don't see Guy Perron or Campbell Blair or Pellerin. Jack Capuano makes to much money to come back here. No BC assts are coming here.

Would not rule out Leaman. Possible dark horse and I think would be very favorably considered. Then I think there will one or possibly two out of the blue unexpected guys throw their names in....who? Couldnt tell ya, but you mentioned Rick Bennett...could happen. Very lucrative position up there in Orono, especially with the 2nd best fans in the nation....I have to give the nod to UND after seeing their attendance in Minneapolis a few years ago.
