Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Getting into Maine is a little different than getting into BC. I don't see that as stopping the process. Monty being his coach might help push him toward Maine. I think the most likely route is the Pros but be nice to have a another good player on the team
Montgomery when he took Saponari in this summer said that every player should get a 2nd chance...and with that Montgomery has been doing a fine job at Dubuque, his team is in 1st place....and YES it would be nice to have another good player for next fall, with the lost of 5 Seniors and with the chance of Junior forward Nyquist making the move to the next level in his career.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Saponari is a great player, but his ppg is the same as Jaden Shwartz' was, USHL to AHL/NHL is a rather large jump, I'm sure his academic issues would not keep him from going to Maine, and I'm sure Montgomery is trying his best to push him towards Orono, but I don't know, I don't really think he fits into the Black Bear mold. I wish he would, but I doubt he ends up at UMaine, he was drafted 94th by the way, Thrashers property.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Might have missed something...But is there any reason to think that he's even considering coming to Maine?

Jimmy is his coach and Brendan came from BU, therefore the stars are aligned:D

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

He's a player with alot of talent...but if getting kick-off BU then over to the USHL and now he can't cut it to get into BC....then how or why would Maine go after him....that does not sound like what Whitehead would do.....

Nick Pryor?....

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Are you implying that Nick Pryor had academic issues when he initially committed to Wisconsin?

He said: that doesn't sound like something Whitehead would do.

Pryor had academic barriers to Wisconsin, and he actually initially got denied by Maine, too.

Clearly, extra efforts were made to bring him in despite the barriers. Pryor was supposed to be, and possibly still could become an impact player, and that was a very recent example of our staff going out of their way to bring him in so I disagree with the concept being unrealistic.

If Vinny doesn't think college hockey is worth the effort at this point, it's all moot anyhow.

Nick Pryor?....
Maybe with Montgomery as his coach that Saponari get some influence on what to do next season, either continue at the College level, where he could take his time in getting to the next level or turn Pro and take a chance...but with Montgomery having done the College route and playing in the AHL/NHL and over-seas he can help him out as he..[Monty]..can see if he's ready for the step up. imo.

Kinda surprised to hear that Pryor was a Bucky recruit.I like his grit, but he doesn't look like the kind of a blue-chip guy that WI would covet,talent-wise.

Hope he pans out, though.I've said it before, and I'll say it again:the kid has a set.

It will be interesting to see who sits once O'Neill..[Florida]..and Dimmen..[Jan.8/Merrimack]..return. Tough losing those 2 for that amount of time, but it maybe a blessing in the long run as everyone got a taste of action....some good and some so-so.

It will be interesting to see if Maine goes with a 2 goalie rotation in the second half.............
Maine has to get the PP going.........currently that is the weak link

Agreed...goalie tandem of Sullivan/Ouellette...and that PP has to wakeup sooner then later...imo I think that Nyquist needs to go back to his old self of passing before shooting...he has the goal scorers in Abbott/Flynn/Dee/Diamond/House who can benefit from his passing.

I really hope O'Connor does not sit.

I like the kid also...but I think you'll see him in one game, out one game if he's lucky...I would sit Banwell more, especially if he continues his no look passes from behind the net right up the center area.

Me three on O'Connor.I much prefer his decisions to Banwell's.

O'Connor has-and will probably continue to-make some rookie mistakes...But his skating ability and his hands allow him to recover from them. It's early, but I can see him making some serious noise at Maine.

I compared him to Prestin a few weeks back, and I still do,but I hope he doesn't spend as much time in the box as Mr. Ryan did.

He looks like a special player for the Bears, and a real steal.

I have to agree on O'Connor....he's a keeper. I also thought Pryor looked equally if not more impressive. I know we didn't see him much last year because he was hurt but that kid has good size and is physical and he can skate well. If either of them turn out to be half the player Prestin was (minus the penalties of course) I'll be very happy.

In the past decade for defensemen, Prestin Ryan and Peter Metcalf were both a cut above everyone else as far as I'm concerned.
