......or at least a poor man's Paul Kariya. :p

Thought that I'd turn over a new leaf on the few verbal commitments that Maine still has left.

Hockey season is well under way for these guys and a couple are doing quite well. It's nice to see Mark Anthoine in particular having a strong season so far.

2010

Carlos Amestoy (Toronto/CCHL) - 18 GP, 5-9-14, +1

Mark Anthoine (Chicago/USHL) - 8 GP, 8-4-12, +4

Stuart Higgins (USNDPT U-17) - 7 GP, 2-1-3, -3

2011

Darcy Ashley (Summerside/MJAHL) -17 GP, 15-17-32 (leading league in scoring)

Cam Brown (Boston Advantage Midget Major) - 22 GP, 7-14-21

Matt McNeely (USNDPT) - 7 GP, 0-6, 5.40 GAA, .870 SV% ()

You can take Searfoss off the list Heisenberg has him going to UNO now.

Effective today (10/27/2009) Chris Heisenberg now has Searfoss going to Nebraska-Omaha.

well, it probably was for the geographic location,
I cannot remember who the UNO coach is and whether he is any good at all... or if Maine MIGHT have wanted to see if he wanted to come to Maine.

When is Ashley QMJHL draft eligible?

Monumental bungle.

More so than hiring Whitehead. Because Blais could have come back and fixed things and Whitehead would have been looked back on as a few bad years between Walsh and another legend.

Honest question, is Blais a midwest kid of guy (I'm just going on his jobs at UND, USHL, and now UNO) or would he have seriously come East if Maine gave Timmay his walking papers and offered Blais the job?

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

We'll never know if Blais would have come to Maine :(

But I think he's happy at UNO, anyway. He gets to cherrypick players from the USHL, and he gets full credit if UNO does anything.

Maine needs to get back to bringing in those 20-21yo Canadians, it seems.

Don't look at McNeely's stats because he's playing very well. The NTDP is in the USHL this season and the U-17 team is playing most of the games. A team of 16 year olds isn't going to win many games at this level against mostly 17-20 year olds.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

You right but I have to think a team will take him next summer with the season he's having.
Wasn't the biggest reason he didn't get drafted this past year because a first year draft eligible player has to be drafted in the first 5 rounds in the Q? I can understand why a team won't waste an early pick on a player they aren't sure they can get, but he will certainly get drafted this year.

True........but those numbers are pretty raunchy. Hopefully, they will improve as the season goes on and he gets more experience under his belt.

Any chance timmay/whoever could bring him in a year early? He's already dominating against much older competition, not that its the greatest league in the world. It will be interesting if he can't come in next year which route he chooses. I would think the Q would be much less appealing than it would have been last summer where he is only one more year away from college.

Fair point, this week is a good week to judge him on his stats with the Four Nations Tournament in Slovakia because he will facing his peers (u-17 event). The fact he has played eight of the nine games the U-17 team has played in the USHL says something.

I know I am comparing apples to oranges here but last year I watched Bangor High School defeat Skowhegan 11-4. Skowhegan's goalie was the best player on the ice that night because he kept the game close. I believe it was 4-2 heading into the third but the team was out of gas. He made 59 saves.

Three out of the last five games with McNeely in net they have loss by two goals or less. In the 7-2 loss to Cedar Rapids, it was 4-2 going into the third. He hasn't been pulled from any of his games either so I have to assume not every goal is his fault.

Give him time I think the numbers will go down but at the end of the day they will be ugly because how young the team is.
