Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

I really could see BC struggle. They're really going to have a tough time replacing the minutes the three dmen they lost played along with losing the production up front and probably not as good of leadership.

BC returns more firepower up front this year than they did last year after losing Atkinson, Hayes, Gibbons, Whitney, etc. That's a fact. They also bring back a pretty good goalie in Milner. Sure they have some big holes to fill with the loss of Dumoulin and Cross, but as usual, they bring in some excellent defensive recruits as well as some blue chip forwards. Remember, they have won a recent NCAA Title skating 4 Freshmen D and have been in other recent NCAA title games going with 3 freshmen D, most of whom were not the quality of the recruits they have coming in this year, so not a major concern. Throw in Coach York and I'm pretty certain BC will be there in the end....

Is this post a joke? How did you work out things are brutal on paper for next year? Maine's not the only team who is losing players from last year's team.

Look at the stats, Einstein.

Maine has lost four of their top five goal-scorers, and there is absolutely no reason in the world to expect better-than-mediocre D and 'tending in '12/'13.

The young guys I saw last year (especially Parker) are better than OK, but not looking like "impact players" from where I sit.

My prediction is this: Maine will struggle to gain favorable playoff position in HE, and will not be a credible threat to advance to the FF, if they even gain a berth to the NCAAs.

Tell me why I'm wrong about this, please.

Look at the improvement guys like shemansky, anthoine, and mangene had from '10-'11 to last year. Surely there are others who will step up next year, especially from last year's freshmen class. Next year's frosh class features a kid who should get drafted in the top couple rounds, a kid who led his ushl team in scoring his rookie year, and a kid who was a finalist for mr. hockey in MN. You would expect a couple to make an impact straightaway. Beyond that, look at the other teams. Who is really going to be that great in the league?

UML & BC will be the top teams(imo),and Maine could finish from 5th thru 7th.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Who's going to score? Anthoine, Diamond, and Beattie are three who I think could perform solidly. After that, we have a whole bunch of role players. The defensemen stink and goaltending was better, but still shaky and inconsistent.

The only saving grace is NU, UVM, and UMass will still be downtrodden. Merrimack will be a lot worse. I'm not sold on UNH being much better than last year, but they have better goaltending than Maine.

I see HE looking like this.

1 BC
2 Lowell
3 Providence
4 BU
5 UNH
6 Maine
7 Merrimack
8 UMass
9 Vermont
10 Northeastern
UML or BC for the top spot...after that 3 thru 10 could be anyones guess,Figure Providence is still 1 to 2 years away...UNH could be a sleeper with DeSmith in net...BU/Merrimack are in need of Goaltending, and UMass is young and as always NU is a hot/cold streaky team...Vermont is rebuilding and has some promising recruits coming in but they are in for a long season...which leaves Maine in between them all from 5th thru 7th....as always they will only go as far as there goaltending and what type of D-man show up for this season.

Maine lands overseas recruit
By Nathan Fournier Published: 29th May 2012

There was a revelation in the USHL Entry Draft last Tuesday when it was made known that the first round pick of the Fargo Force is actually a University of Maine recruit.

The Force announced a day later that Victor Bjorkung was committed to attend the University of Maine.

Good info...looks like they are going with size in the d-man department, lets hope these d-man have some bite/grit to go along with there resume. Thanks for the UPDATE...still wondering with the 3 netminders(Sullivan/Ouellette and incoming Morris)...last time had a adverse effect.

The way Tim Ghandi has the D play, it's all about off the glass and out and spacing. There is no reward for being gritty. Cornell & O'Connor& Rutt all came in with plenty of grit....but Tim prefers finesse ...just wait to Bill"Casper the Ghost"Norman is playing every night......

Sadly I hear what your saying...Cornell/O'Conner & Rutt could be and should be punishing players around the crease and in the corners...after Blair Campbell left the D took off also....and NOT for the better.

Yeah that Blair Campbell was a great defensive coach. Almost as good a player as the two goalies we had, think there names were Allison Blair and Marsh Blair!

Devin Shore finished in the top ten in a handful of events at the NHL Combine this past weekend. http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=80653

Talked to a couple people who were at the NHL Combine and it seems hes still set to come to Maine, but as I said before we won't know a final decision until after the draft if his NHL team will have a say in the final decision.

Hope that Detroit drafts him, they are known to let there prospects get time in,that being if they are involved in College Hockey and then after 3 years going to the next level in the AHL...two examples Jimmy Howard & Gustav Nyquist.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Maine connections drafted in the QMJHL draft today '14 recruit Liam Pecararo taken by the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the 7th round, '14 recruit Ryan Cloonan taken in the 13th round by the Victoriaville Tigres. Maine native (uncommitted) Mark Dufour taken in the 13th round by the Drummondville Voltigeurs

I don't think there's nothing to be alarmed about. The Q instituted a rule this year that all teams needs to take two American players in the draft. Victoriaville/Drummondville isn't a "destination." Blainsville was able to get Stefan Matteau to sign and he decommitted from North Dakota, but his dad is the assistant coach with the Armada. The Armada are going to be a good team this year so I don't think they are necessarily going to try to hard to go after Pecararo this season.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Rumors swirling on a few other message boards Saint John Sea Dogs draftee Noah Zilbert (17-years old) is looking at Maine/committed to Maine. I just sent an email to Noah for comment/confirmation. Played for the Fredericton Canadiens last year, had 26 goals and 29 assists in 27 games at the midget AAA level...Played with the Woodstock Slammers of the Maritime (Junior A) Hockey League during their playoff run in the Fred Page Cup and the RBC Cup

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Just got an E-Mail from Woodstock Slammers coach Jason Tatarnic on Noah Zilbert's future "(he) has not committed to Maine but he is on their radar."

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Judd Brackett, a Vancouver Canucks scout tweeted today Victor Bjorkung will play for Fargo this season

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

I talked to Winthrop native Mark Dufour who's uncommitted this week.

Local taken in QMJHL draft
By Nathan Fournier Published: 14th June 2012

After a stellar junior season with Kents Hill, Mark Dufour is getting some attention from junior and college scouts.

The Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey league took notice of Dufour’s play and selected him in the 13th round of the league’s entry draft last Saturday.

“It’s a cool league. Growing up I looked up to it,” Dufour stated about going to Lewiston Maineiacs games as a kid. “It’s cool to be able to participate in (the draft process).”
