Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Surprising, these days,to hear a couple of kids say that they chose Maine over BC and North Dakota(!)

If they had a straight-up choice (as in:full rides offered by any of the schools involved),then it sounds even better, but who among us really knows the details?

Clearly, the recruiting has improved, outside of the goalie position.I have no idea why,but I suspect that Corkum has a lot to do with it...Nothing else has changed in Orono since the disastrous classes that preceded his hiring.

Big question is:can Tim do anything with these guys..?He had a very good team at his disposal last year, and dropped the ball squarely on his feet.If he couldn't figure out a way to win last season,I have very grave doubts that he will this time around.

Your not alone in thinking this way...only way there's a chance is the Goaltending has to improve big time and the players are allowed to play...sadly I sense a frustrating season upon us in 2011-12...hopefully I am WRONG.

Different people want different things. I think its as simple as that.

I think that Corkum probably has helped the recruiting but I wonder if Danny has improved as well? Now that he has done it for five or six years I'm sure he has a better idea what kids to target and how to get them to commit. I'm actually optimistic on this years class and think it will turn out to be one of the best we have had in the last seven or eight years. I look at this year as a win-win situation, either Maine does great and everyone is happy or Maine does bad and Timmy moves on.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

As others have pointed out, just because a player was "talking" to this school or that school, does not mean they were highly interested in said player. Schools put out feelers to a lot more players than they end up offering spots or money to. If BC felt that this kid wasn't worth a full ride, and offered him say two years, vs Maine offering a full ride, thats @ $120K more that he'd have to come up with to go to BC vs going to Maine. Again, not saying the kid isn't good, but you have to take those quotes with a serious grain of salt, especially when you hear he was talking to Holy Cross and Quinnipiac, as those schools typically don't even waste their time with true high end talent.

Matt Morris coming in next year should really help the goaltending situation. Hopefully his talent doesn't just go to waste without a goalie coach at his disposal.

It would be nice if Grant were coming as a package deal, but I guess it's also nice to dream big.

I agree Matt is a good goalie.
Not to worry things will work out.
We have an excellent coaching staff that are well versed in recruiting. We are building a winner and we have a very solid foundation of talent.

I suspect that you're right.Kerluke started recruiting at a pretty tender age;not much older than the kids he was seeking.Chances are he's improved his game.

Corkum's team USA recent U17 tourney obviously helped as well to gain access to some young blood. Hopefully Tim does not get jealous..............

Kevin Schulze chooses Wisconsin over Maine

Muskegon, Mich. - It is safe to assume that Muskegon Lumberjacks defenseman Kevin Schulze had a wonderful Labor Day weekend.

On Saturday, the White Bear Lake, Minn., native made his verbal commitment to play college hockey at the University of Wisconsin beginning in fall 2012.

“It feels great,” Schulze said. “It’s a load off my shoulders to know where I’m going to college. I’ve always loved watching Wisconsin hockey, and when I visited Madison, I loved everything about my visit.”

It was not an easy decision for the 5-foot-9, 155-pound blueliner, who weighed the Badgers’ program against that of another powerhouse – the University of Maine.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

At the end of the article...he choose Wisconsin over "ANOTHER POWERHOUSE" University of Maine....maybe 10 years ago...but there's NO powerhouse in Maine Hockey...it's time to say it the right way...Maine Hockey use to be a top end program with Champioship aspirations, but now Maine Hockey lives off it's old history...it's NOT your Maine Hockey of yester-year...I hate saying it,but it's a fact...palin & simple.

The ending should of been plain & simple...my BAD.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

"Palin" and "simple" paired together works for me. :)

I agree with your point, though. It's amazing to me that kids cite Maine's winning tradition, when the Bears haven't seen the NCAAs since most of them were still finishing elementary school. If that doesn't change pronto,Maine will lose whatever recruiting chips they have left.

^5'9" and 155lb? Defensman? Not much of a loss for us...

It might be a little early to say, “not much of a loss for us,” remember Chay Geneoway at 5’ 9” and 177 lbs. Finished his senior year as the active leader among NCAA Division I defensemen with 127 career points ... Ranks fourth on UND’s all-time scoring list for defensemen ... Tied for second all-time among Sioux defensemen in game-winning goals (seven) and ranks fourth in power-play goals (14), fifth in assists (101), and seventh in goals (26) ... Played in 168 career games, tying him with former teammates Zach Jones (2005-09) and Matt Watkins (2005-09) for third all-time at UND (all players), and for the most by a defenseman (with Jones). He was also a Hobey candidate.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Yeah, excellent case-in-point:a kid doesn't have to be big and bulky these days, the way the game is called...And that's a good thing,IMO.

Ryan Lomberg had a good start to the USHL Fall Classic with a goal and an assist today. Matt Morris also had a 20 shot shutout to start the Fall Classic
