Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Two goalies competing is healthy; with three goalies, there's not enough ice time--or practice/teaching time--to do them all justice.

goalie teaching time...
you are too funny, or in the acronym of walrus,
TF

alexander is in town for how many minutes per month?
and it shows.
There is EXACLTY ONE reason that i can think of that the kid from Montgomery's Saints is coming to Orono and I HOPE like hel1 that my prayer is answered

Amen to that one.

EXACLTY how many games are you rooting for Maine to lose next year? Wouldn't it be a shame if Maine's record in 2011-12 was good enough to make it difficult for Abbott to fire Whitehead?

For the record, I think Montgomery will wind up as a head coach at a higher level somewhere, whether that's in NCAA Division I hockey or the pro ranks, I don't know. And if he goes D-1, I'd love to see him behind the bench at the Alfond. But I'm sure as hell not going to root for Maine to lose in the hope that that might happen. Nor am I so cynical to believe that Montgomery would advise Morris to commit to Maine on the assumption that Timmy will be fired at the end of next year and that he (Jimmy) will be hired for 2012-13 and beyond.

Jimmy could make a lot more money predicting the future of the stock market then he could coaching hockey if this were to come true. IF there is a coaching search I want it to be a true national search not an appointment for a former player(unless he is the best candaidate)

As far as rooting for Maine to lose, I doubt you'll have to root. I can't see Maine being better than last year losing what they lost up front. I do think the goaltending will be better but thats all I see being better

I don't want them to lose to hire Montgomery or someone else...but my point and it has been for a LONG/LONG time is that the time has come for a change behind the Maine bench...period...have you watched the DECLINE from the time TW has taken the the job to right now...how the Program has slipped...and as for telling Morris not to come to Maine...where the H#ll did I say that...I'll make it clear that I root for the team ALL the time, not to lose to get a change...I like the idea of Montgomery being in a group of say 5-6 people being considered if and WHEN the UMaine Job becomes available...but I will ALWAY's root for the team and NOT against.....so wake up and see the whole picture...walk around the rink/or the surrounding areas that have Maine Hockey fans and listen to what ALOT have to say and feel. You have your thoughts and here is mind to you.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Any new recruits that are drafted coming in ??
Any potential/existing players invited to tryout camps?

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Someday, someone at Maine will stop recruiting Major Junior flight risks. Whitehead couldn't sign a highly ranked defenseman if his life depended on it...........

Sure there is some inherent risk with any kid that you receive a commitment from but it's a little surprising to me that Whitehead continues down this recruiting road of MJ flight risks after getting burned by quite a few of these types just a few short years ago.

Why? It is a low risk, high reward strategy. It's not like Maine now can't fill that scholarship. There's plenty of time to fill it, and just taking the kid's commitment doesn't burn many resources. I figure it's worth a shot.

I can't remember all the names that were high prospects north of the border that Maine "secured" verbal commitments from (some of which I suspect were just for leverage) and then bolted, but I would think one or two classes have showed up to Maine now (maybe a 3rd on the way?) that would have contained these kids. Maybe it would be interesting to see someone compile that and ask how happy people were with the recruiting classes on paper when they arrived without the prior commitments.

If there is a general dissatisfaction with those classes, was it a fluke or should everyone expect these types of classes to continue?

We've gotten some great talent from Canada. We can't complain.
I wish we had more local talent to draw on, maybe in the future
and its hard to get Boston area kids to come over
so Canada has been good to us
Go Black Bears!

Maine is not alone in recruiting the best players and receiving verbal committments only to have them sign with major jr. teams. Maine should continue to recruit the best players with the academic credentials to succeed in college hockey.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Does anyone know if Sebastien Gingras is still looking to play at Maine this coming fall ?

there is a finite number of dollars to be spent (getting less and less every year that donors walk away from TIMMY).

Maine could have spent their entire budget for 30 years trying to recruit Gretzky and he still would not have come.

unfortunately Danny is doing what will bring boys to Orono...going to Monarchs games and boston leprachaun's games or whatever... if he tried to get kids from the US under-18 team and Omaha Lancers and Nanaimo Clippers, he would be wasting the recruiting budget... they do not want to have their career possibility max out at ECHL or car sales in Saskatchewan
Maine has seen its last Mike Lundin and Teddy Purcell and that was a four years ago, well after it was clear that the canaries had died

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: Monarchs and More......

Never noticed that before - it really is uncanny. :)

random note: Blaine was Reimann's H.S. team, right?

also uncanny (unless i missed it) is that Reimann also wore 22 at Maine

also... Bob, MANY of the players have had concussions, thy don't talka bout it
