Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

So did anyone get the Maine Hockey Best of Best Pack application in the mail today? 8 games @ $160/$6ph......Mich St.[2]..Vermont[1]..BU[1]..BC[2]..UNH[2]........the flyer says you get the same seat for the Best games....with a so-called savings of $16 off single game ticket sales. Must have had ANOTHER decline in Season Ticket sales[9.2% down last year]....well it's a good package for some who don't go to all the games.....sad how this program has slide down into the gutter..use to be a Maine Hockey ticket was a hard buy.....needed to be a Season Ticket holder or know someone with extra tickets to see UMaine Hockey.......but I guess the writing on the wall is only seen by the few.

Used to be I got a cost of living raise every year, I could heat my house for half what it costs me now, I could feed my family for much less, gas was much cheaper, and I could afford all seven of my hockey seats and take the whole family.

I had to give up four of those seats cause I just plain could not afford it. I kept the best seats and I go to every game I can, but I can't afford more. I'm sure there are many people in the same boat who have had to make their own decisions based on finances. Stands to reason the Univeristy has to find a way to compete against the tough economy. I hope they manage to sell some seats however they have to.

Maine takes on St. Cloud tonight in football. Maine just scored on a kickoff after St. Cloud kicked a field goal. 7-3 in the first.

So, 8 games and you save a whopping $16? $2/game? What a bargain.

Wouldn't they be better off keeping the games against the good teams full price and discounting the Merrimacks and Providences of the world?

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I don't think so. What they are doing with that package is making sure they still sell out the games that should be sold out since they obviously fear that they will not sell out any games this year.

I completely agree with you on the money part that;Bills,Heating,Food..etc. come first......what I was trying to say is the PRODUCT on the ice and behind the bench has dropped big time in the last 4 years that the PASSION to buy/own Season Tickets or getting single's has gone down the tubes....I do hope they sell tickets...BECAUSE there's no better place to be then at a rockin Alfond Arena on a cold winter night.

You are so right on the Alfond and how it can rock! I do hear the comments on the product on the ice and behind the bench. I think the quality of college hockey has diminished across the board in the past 4 years. Unfortunately for Maine there are fewer grade A players choosing college hockey and the top schools are the firsst choices for those players that are choosing college.

It's typically been the norm that players will choose a BU, BC, Mich, or other schools of that caliber over Maine and add to that the remote location and that has always put Maine behind these schools in recruiting. Because div 1 hockey was seen as the way to go for awhile, there were more players to choose from so Maine got it's share.

I agree that Shawn was an enigmatic personality and had some edge in that area over many coaches. I agree that Grant was a great recruiter. I loved watching Shawn going up and down the bench slapping guys on the back and I even liked watching him light a spark under guys who were not performing on their shifts. I admit we don't see that so much anymore and I do miss it, but those guys are gone.

Alfond arena was a rockin place before they ever came. Before there were winning seasons; before there were frozen four appearances; and before there were National Championships, Alfond Arena Rocked! It has always been a great place to watch the game. That's why I want to see seats sold. I still buy what I can and I go. I wouldn't care if they gave away the seats they couldn't sell, cause I enjoy the atmosphese of the place especially when it's packed.

Hopefully. more wins will come for those who absolutely need the wins to be totally behind the team. Personally, I was there when there weren't any or many wins and I'll still be there for as long as I can afford to be. I love the place! GO BLUE!!!!

The team makes the building.......not the other way around.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

The team makes the building.......not the other way around.

I agree that the team is part of it, and when I refer to the Alfond I am including the team, but it's more than just the team. It's the atmosphere, the fans, the fact that Mainers' can appreciate a hockey barn better than most people and it's the pride we have in our Black Bears. Winning or losing, the Black Bears are our team.

I certainly wish they could win more-I'd love it if they won all the time! Still, I love Maine Hockey win or lose. I don't care who the coach is or whether I like him or not, I can still enjoy myself at the Alfond and I can still support my team -even more so when the place is rockin'.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

make more tickets available to the students at student rates That may rock the building !

I agree, if the tickets aren't sold then fill the seats and students usually increase the level of the rockin' atmosphere. I don't know if you were being serious or just making a snide comment, but whatever they have to do...

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

they already do give unsold tickets to students if the student section fills

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Believe me there is nothing I type here that I wouldn't say to timmays face or anybody else. I don't care, just like anything else if you never speak up people just keep doing/saying the same stuff over and over again. Heck come sit by me at a game and you can hear it yourself, ask anybody who sits in the section, I am not afraid to voice my concerns/comments.
By the way who's parents did you hear me speak with?

how many did you tell that their kid sucked?

I was being serious. They can make additional tickets available at a student discount$ once the student section fills up, to try to fill the empty seats. Some $ is better than no $

Did your kid play on the team? :D All the parent's I have met seemed to be pretty nice people and you tell them thanks for supporting the team etc. That doesn't mean their kid is an allstar and doesn't change my opinion of Tim. You seem like you have a little personal issue/problem? If you have a problem email me and we can discuss it.
Anyway have a nice Labor Day Weekend. Back to golf since the NFL doesn't start until next week.
