Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I was thinking, since Alabama-Huntsville doesn't have a home Maine & Merrimack should leave Hockey East join up with Lake St and UAH for a new conference. Maybe the Friars could come along too. That way we would be right in the hunt for a reg season title again. ;) :D

And an automatic bid to the NCAA tourney. :D

This is a great idea. The new conference could include teams from the rest of the UMaine System. Think of the money UMaine Orono will save if thier road schedule consists of trips to Portland, Farmington, Presque Isle and Fort Kent. I remember growing up that NMVTI used to have a team as well.

The only long shot would be to add the U-18 National Team. :D :D

NCAA tourney here we come!

should throw in Bowdoin, Bates, and Colby... used to play at least Bowdoin back in the early days.

Oh, they played Colby also.

I can recall someone used to for several games early in the series, smuggle in a track of "Mule Train" and get it played over the speakers at Orono....

That led me to a tradition I have of whenever I ride by Colby along I-95 and see the campus, I roll down a window of the car and shout "Colby Su*ks"

These were really important games in the early history of the Semler-led Black Bears. Colby fought hard every time they played Maine.

The Incredible Shrinking New Bangor Arena.......     :

5,000 seats for $50 million?!?! LOL......What an effin joke! Just use the money on more waterfront walkways or something, Bangor. You obviously can't handle a project of this magnitude.

The problem with these market analyses is that they use standard formula and metrics to determine future draw. I dont think they would apply to this area and the people of Maine. If you attract great events, the people will fill the seats.....they will travel, unlike other areas where choices are more abundant. They're missing the mark here imo.

I agree, 5,000 seat arena is throwing away money. And rehab the piece of chit auditorium? Give me a break, that sucker needs to disappear from the face of the earth. We can only hope that the councilors have more wisdom than the supposed experts on this one.

This is a once in a lifetime decision for these people. They get it right and Bangor flourishes....wrong and they pizz away good money and regret their decision for decades and decades.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

$50 million for a 5,000 seat arena does not seem to make sense. However, building an arena larger than 5,000 does not seem to make sense for the Bangor area. I can not see how a 8 or 9 thousand seat arena, without an "anchor" tenant could be viable. I have been out of Maine for a while now, how many people are in the greater Bangor area now? I lived in Manchester when the Verizon Wireless was built (9,000 seats). There are about 300,000 people within a 25 mile radius of Manchester. They are able to draw acts that play in Boston for a number of reasons, including a great management team. I just don't see how an arena with 9,000 seats could thrive in bangor. I admit, I do not live in the Bangor area and have been out of Maine for a number of years now. I would defer to those who do. It just seems a bit of a stretch that anything larger than 5k seats would work in Bangor.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Can anybody advise if there will be a Blue/Black game this year and when would it occur? Thanks
CORRECTION....I gave you the date of Saturday Oct.3rd as the day of the Blue/White game....this is what I was told...BUT seems that the game will be played ON Sunday Oct.4th @ 4pm.....my error....maybe a call to the office at UM will iron out this....again my error. I 'll take a 2 minute penalty.....

Bangor draws from a wide area for entertainment, culture, and shopping. An 8,000 seat arena makes sense for a building that will be around for the next 5 or 6 decades. The freakin seating capacity isn't even as much as Alfond Arena. They obviously need to put this out to the voters so they can squash this proposal........I no longer have faith in the City of Bangor. Use the **** casino money for something else.......I'm sure more meth clinics and crumbling waterfront pathways need to be built!

Your mistake was actually having faith in the city. What is going to happen will be the Auditorium will crumble to the point of being unsafe (or more unsafe), and the Auditorium will lose the HS basketball tournament (the one event left there), and there will be no point in rebuilding.

Eastern Maine is dead. Last one out, turn out the lights.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

To build a 5000 seat venue is absolutely absurd. If you put a management team in Bangor who can schedule events that will draw, you can bet that folks with come from Fort Kent to Boston and from Eastport to Albany. We haven’t built a barn in over 50-years and probably won’t for another fifty, so let’s get it right. I say nothing less than 9000 even if we have to wait a couple of more years to start the project.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I was just curious.. has anyone heard anything about where Orsini, Randall, and Belmore are playing this season?

Interesting to have a goalie wearing the #1 again. Just making conversation.

Well, if Timmy eats crow one MORE time and asks a player back like he did each of the last 2 seasons (at least), then Randall will be playing at Maine and Payson will be out.
