I was at the game I thought Maine looked great up to the point where shemansky got hurt. Darling lost the game

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Well another loss to another program, Maine used to roll over. Get used to losing to everybody as long as timmay is in the house. As for sticking up for your teammates make a statement if your going to get even, do it right!! Knock him in the mouth, knock a few teeth out, break his nose, etc and he will remember and the others will be skating looking over their shoulders before they think about boarding one of your guys or running the goalie. You only have to knock out one and the message is loud and clear. But that hasn't happened in years at Maine.....and won't while timid timmay is running the show.
Here is a copy of the email I sent to timid timmay last weekend, with of course no response
Mr Whitehead:
Having been a long time fan and supporter of Maine Hockey. I have held tickets for Maine since 1991 thru the current season. I have seen the highs and lows of Maine hockey. It is getting harder and harder to support the team with the direction it is going.
Maine hockey has quickly declined over the past 5 years and become a bottom dweller of Hockey East. When traveling to opposing schools, people ask all the time what is wrong with Maine hockey and the common denominator is the coach and the systems the team plays. Your teams have consistently gotten worse. They are out skated, timid on the ice, out worked and pushed around all over the ice, these are not trademarks of Maine hockey. Maine will be lucky to to keep it within 3 of UNH and UNH is not exactly kicking azz this year, Maine just isn't good.
As you can see from the Bangor Daily comments, internet forums, from the fans at the Alfond, I am not the only one with these views. I am curious to see what changes you plan to make to get this team back to one of being a winner. You can "talk" about the freshman, players leaving early etc, but every program deals with this. Maine created a proud program with a winning tradition, great arena and fanbase. All of this has declined and it will destroy the program as it continues to lose and further declines. You have already seen drops in the donations, ticket sales and fan support. I personally did not donate this year as a way to protest what is going with the program. The team needs to play "Maine Hockey," play to win versus not to lose, or move on and let someone who can bring this program back to being a national contender come in and start the rebuilding.
That being said I want the team to win, but am curious how that will happen.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I think it's safe to say that Maine's run of first-rate goaltenders has come to an end.

Unless this Sirman kid works out.
I'd take a second rate goalie at this point.:D Hopefully Sirman gets the start tomorrow night I've seen enough of the other 2 sieves to last me a lifetime. After tonight Darling's stats since the beginning of the 2009 calendar year are 3-11-1 4.24 gaa .848 sv% this kid needs to go play in a beer league he's not a D1 goalie.

He'd probably rather be playing in a beer league.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Roughing the guy up would be slamming him head first into the boards so he can't get up.

Two wrongs and a probable suspension make a right? I'm pretty sure Greg Cronin, Corkum, Claude Julien, no real hockey man would have his guys pulling that kind of crap, give me a break

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

No.

I think that Maine does not have anywhere near the talent that they used to have.

You're right,of course, but this is far and away the most talented group we've had in 3 years.Mangene,Shemansky,Nyquist,Flynn,House, and Abbott are the cream of the crop, and there are several others who, together, make up a very solid nucleus.Maine should be winning at least half the time, even with ***** 'tending.

The time is ripe to herald in a new regime. The new coach(and why not try Corkum?)will have something to work with right now. There is absolutely no reason to believe that Whitehead will figure this one out.I don't know any details about the contracts, but why would it cost Maine a cent more to give Bob the interim job, just to see what he can do?

If Corkum was behind the bench,I would have driven the 2.5 hours to see my Bears in Amherst,vs. staying home and watching the US U-18 DT dismantle my local D-3 squad,10-1.Thing is,I just have no hope for the program under Tim anymore.

None.

Does anyone think that the refs still make calls against Maine based on their ill feelings toward Walsh? I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory........but I think that the hatred for him ran pretty deep.

I think you are nuts.
Maine got the calls back then... Shawn knew how to play the refs as well as Jackie and Whistling Dick...

UMass did not get called for slashing Darling in the first because Tim does not put the fear of God into the refs.
Maine got called for charging Dainton and UMass did not get called for charging Sirman (you cannot check a goalie in his crease)
dainton got a minor slash and not a major spear
Nolet did not get the game misc. even though it was clear that he could have stopped.... he did not even get called for a hit from behind.

Your e-mail letter hit every area on the bulls-eye......this season and program is a total MESS.....there can't be just the outside that see's the problem....this needs to be fixed....the ax has to fall on Whitehead at the end of the season...I don't think you would see a change behind the bench during the season....all though it should happen..it won't happen. Thanks for sharing that e-mail letter...it sums up a vast majority of the feeling of UMaine Hockey fans. With that: "SAVE UMaine HKy...NOW." ~~ DUMP Whitehead

No they wouldn't but you have to send a message that you aren't going to put up with the other team intentionally injuring your players.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Really?

Maine got two penalties for roughing up the guy that put the hit on shemanski.

Don't be absurd. Under Walsh someone (probably Fenton) would have gotten a shotgun and blown the kid away. That's the only way to handle a situation like that.

Wow, the VIP has sent the coach a strongly-worded email! That's really stepping up.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

From the Maine Hockey Journal

NOTES: Adam Shemansky was injured late in the second period, he was taken to a local area hospital as a precaution, but was later released.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Priceless, the problem is even when you talk with AD and above they really don't seem to think there is a problem. Just a blip on the radar screen because they are too busy looking at their next move and not about what they have to do currently to run a program. So until the board gets some balls and drop the hammer from up above...its the same old same old.....

When you talk with timmay in person he has that same glazed over look and gives the same answers he gives in the BDN. What's the definition of insanity doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different outcome.....maybe he needs to spend a few weeks at Acadia or BMHI observing how that works.....
Anyway glad its nice in warm down here, time for some golf and then watching some football. No sense in watching Maine lose another one tonight..... the Timmay saga continues, he didn't even give Larry any sound bites last nite.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Roughing the guy up would be slamming him head first into the boards so he can't get up.

Maine fans were calling out UMass fans in the score update thread for being classless. Thanks for showing us how to be classy with comments along these lines throughout this thread.

I hope and pray the Maine player is ok.

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

I was at the game I thought Maine looked great up to the point where shemansky got hurt. Darling lost the game

That was my impression listening too. It seemed Maine played fairly well, just that Bish................er, I mean, Darling sucked totally, and dug the team a hole they couldn't get out of. Must be nice being on a team that you give up three shots on goal and you're already down 2-0. You're always second-guessing and looking over your shoulder afraid that any little mistake you make ends up with the puck in the net.

You have a goalie you can count on, you're not afraid to play a little aggressively, take a few chances, cause you know that your goalie will bail your butt out of the fire if things break down.

One game is not enough to tell, but hopefully, Sirman can step into that #1 spot and show a little consistency. He certainly deserves the start tonite against UHN. And if TIMMAY has even the least little desire to save his job, he can start by firing this clown they have working with the goalies and find someone who knows how to teach young players and correct their mistakes.

I agree with you about the goal tending situation. There is a little more talent on this team but they will not win with the current state of goal tending. That was my worst fear going into the season. Sirman deserves a start tonight and if he continues to play well, Maine could end up having it's best season in a few years.

Can you do me a favor?
Can you (and I use CAN, on purpose... dealing with capability, not willingness)

Can you list 3 things that Whitehead does extremely well as a head coach?
Does he get the kids to go to class and do their own work any better than Shawn did, or any other D1 coach?

Does he run practices that get his team ready for the weekend opponent?

Does he use his players to the best of each of their abilities?

Does he have the respect of his students and his coaches and employees? (besides Dan?)

Does he develop talent?

Does he recruit top talent on a consistent basis?

Do coaches at lower levels advise their top players to go play for Tim?

Do family advisors have good things to say about Tim's ability to develop talent?

Does he stand behind his players when they do something stupid, that any kid might do at that age, or does he publicize it and throw the kid under the bus? (Sill Czuba)

YOu keep telling us that we are wrong when we say what he does wrong, but you might want to tell us, WHAT DOES HE DO RIGHT?

ALL you have is your silly contrarian point of view, and the numbers of frozen fours in the last few years. (I would attribute all of that to Grant. And you cannot prove me wrong, unless you can get Grant reinstated and show me that he is unable to get the guys going in the right direction.)

Re: Maine offseason part II...Countdown to slightly above the Mendoza line.

Sirman should definitely get the start tonight. The other 2 already had more chances than anyone else would expect to get. Let's see what he can do.
