Maine should get a boost on defense with the return of Schurhamer for the 2nd half...need the offense and goaltending NOT to be question-marks for the New Year.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Hate to argue with an old Maine buck, but you're saying basically what Aristotle said like a billion years B.C...

I have several dogs in the hunt in local HS sports, and I'm seeing just what I saw when I was a player: the vast majority of the kids are busting their asses, and when somebody is apparently taking a game off, that kid hears about it from his/her team-mates.

I don't see any lack of effort from Maine, and I really don't see a dearth of talent commensurate with their dismal record. I tend to agree with Wally that perhaps Red isn't connecting. He seems to be a good enough guy ( for a Granite-head lol) but I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't relate very well to him if I was still 18-25.

Having said that, here's a better 2nd half, and Happy Holidays to all my fellow tater-eaters.

You're right. I guess I was more spouting off about the crap you keep hearing about coming from college campuses . With the micro aggressions and wanting to ban the song White Christmas etc etc etc. It makes me want to puke. I can't wait until the entitled spoiled f&ck#$$rs get out in the real world and get beeachslapped.

And Merry Xmas to everyone!

Bam !

Its not as if Red and staff will be able to turn this Mack truck around on a dime with their recruiting prowess. Even Walshy couldn't do that, it took a quarter for him to accomplish it. Will be occasionally painful and frustrating , but I am seeing little things I like out of the freshman and tending has improved. At least we don't have BU's problems right now. :D If you are patient, what goes around always seems to come around.

Still, walshy came in in 84-85, and had his guys in the HE championship game in the 86-87 season.

You don't believe that Guite will be as good a recruiter as Walshy I hope. I mean let's face it, it's all going to come down to recruiting success. I believe these guys are playing as hard as you can hope for and this stuff about tuning out the coach is a bunch of bs. Any future success of this team hinges on getting talented players to Orono, and I don't mean lunch pailers

A new recruit:

Over The Boards ‏@OverTheBoards
98 G Tyler Johnson (@TopekaHockey - NAHL) commits to Maine. 6'3 Buffalo native is off to a hot start rookie year in NA; 13-6 record/.913 sv%

It looks like he played a game in the O. Does this still mean he has to sit out a year? The last player Maine had who played major junior worked out pretty good to say the least.

Yes. He would have to sit out his first year.

Rai and Musil for Gibson and Campbell. I would think that has to be some sort of disciplinary issue. Larry mentioned Rai has been tentative because of his injury issues and that is why he didn't play more in the first half.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

How did McGovern look in net for Maine last night.?

He gave up 5, he certainly wasn't a brick wall. I'm sure the D helped him give up 5 though by being slow and taking penalties.

Re: Maine Hockey: Summer 2015 on the Stillwater

Maine just has no talent, pure and simple. Until they get that turned around gonna be painful. I can hardly bear to watch them. Very little offensive creativity. Someone needs to go and get some hockey players

It's not just that. It's the lack of discipline game after game. Being a man down for over half a period total every game is hard enough for a team with lots of talent. They talk about having to stay out of the box before and after every game. Yet nothing changes.

Totally agree that this team has about $ .35 worth of talent. Word has it that they (Red-Ben-Jay) traveled near, far and wide recruiting during the December break...W. Canada, Midwest US, Europe, even the Flood-Mar tourney in Mass. I suspect this will produce some talent/prospects. This is gonna be a longer process than 2-3 years to get this train back on the tracks.
