Is Red the US Women's hockey coach? Why can't these guys close out a game?

Well, I watched a couple of good teams go at it. First, I will say this to me Oullette looked shaky in the second and it got compounded by a couple of bad plays from our "shut down" defensemen. Looking forward to next season on that note. Secondly, as upset as I was with Shore not getting down to block that shot from the point and then taking a silly penalty, he played like a man possessed after that. Nice shift to answer that penalty and go to the net hard and let a line mate get the garbage goal. Third, NU has some decent talent. That Saucerman looked like one of the better players I've seen this season in this league. And Roy was outstanding for them as well. All in all a tie on the road isn't bad. Let's see what happens tomorrow night when Lomberg is back in the line up. :D

I've watched Roy play the past two years quite a bit and he's definitely the second best player in the league behind Gaudreau. I agree a tie is better than a loss plus if they can pull out 2 tomorrow night that would be a great weekend.

Giving up another goal in the last minute or so is quite disturbing. They did fight back after being up so thats a good thing. I wonder if Shore knows the Bigs expect him to play hard every shift?

Has to make you wonder WHY the Road woes and of recent the failure to keep the lead in the last 2 minutes...all in their heads,no matter what anyone says(players/Coaches)...disturbing trend going into the Playoffs...need Home Ice and a Bye...skip the dangerous one and done playoff game. All in All a lot further ahead then I expected...I did expect with Gendron on board that their would have been a different approach and game planning...and that has happen, better conditioning/work ethic and attacking style...PLUS the Goaltending is solid and not a question-mark.

It wasn't our best effort last night. On a positive note, several players had sub par games and we still emerged with a point on the road against a very good Northeastern team. HE +- stats are all messed for the game.

Yup. This was my point but some other people seem happy with a tie on the road (which they could easily have lost in OT). They have been giving up way too many last minute goals as of late. I don't give a crap how good Northeastern is.

I was thinking the exact same thing. We didn't get the greatest goaltending in the world either. It's been at least 10 years since Maine could sleepwalk through a road game against a top 10 team and still get a point.

You're not happy with a point on the road against a quality team fighting with you for positioning? What drugs are you on? So if they tie again tonight, splitting the points on the road, you' re not happy? You only happy if they sweep a quality opponent on the road? Had they come from behind to tie the game would you have been happy?

We had the game and the two points in hand, and then we didn't. That's the point. Who is satisfied with anything but victory??

No, I'm not happy with one point when they keep giving up last minute goals. They should have walked away with 2 points but they blew it. What drugs are you on?

Coming from behind to tie it is different. If Maine had scored to tie it at the end I would probably be satisfied with that.

Exactly.

To respond to another comment, no, I don't think it's all in their heads. Maine was really running on empty at the end of the Notre Dame games, and couldn't deal with the 5x6. That wasn't the case last night. NU never actually pulled their goalie. Maine just had a bad shift at a very bad time. They weren't running on empty -- Maine responded to the tying goal, and took back the play for stretches in the final minute and OT.

Well the previous game Maine won inside of a minute left from a solid play from Brown/Shore/Leen. Shore stepped into one and Leen got the tip in all started from a good pass from Brown.

So it isn't the end of the world that Maine let a point escape them on the road. Sure a lot of people are upset with the last minute let down. But in my opinion, that win left them in the second after some fairly sloppy defense by all of the players on the ice. This team is finding it has to focus/drive for a full 60 minutes to compete with the big boys, that is for sure.

Hopefully getting Lomberg back will help. He's really developed into one of the better physical forwards we've had in a long while. Has a nose for the net front, which is nice too. I think Maine is going to have to battle hard in front of the net against that goalie to take his eyes away.

So basically when Maine gets ahead near the end of a game they should just stop the clock and send the teams off the ice.... game over. Guess what, the other guys keep playing hard!! How dare they ???!!! And with so much on the line as was the case last night. CHerist, Timmy spent years teaching them how to lose , at least give Red a season to unlearn that behavior
