Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 - Red Light District

I think that the creme is rising to the top so to speak. Gendron has worked a minor miracle this season and Ouelette had saved Maine's *ss numerous times.........but the fact is that Maine is still a few players short of elite statues in the league and old habits die hard. Next season will be interesting.......new goaltending to break in and a lot of new faces. They may take one more step back before moving forward.

Red has done a fantastic job. But....they can and should be winning games like this weekend. They just have to give max effort. What the defense did....or should I say didn't do last night and the last few games is inexcusable, top level talent or not. I'm still going to stick to my prediction that they miss the NCAA's. My bet is they split next weekend, wind up 5th in HE, go on the road for the 1/4s and adios. They simply can't win on the road so no home ice, no Garden. No Garden, no NCAA's. BUT... I will say the fact that we're even talking about the possibility of them making the NCAA's this season is WAAAYYYY ahead of where I and many others thought they'd be. So I'm not really beeaching. A h e ll of alot better product to watch this year and a promising future.

I think this is fair, some guys that are playing now won't be playing next year. We need some D that can clear the net front. Without Marty this team would be fighting to stay out of last place. Can't wait to see some bigger defense out there. patience :)

According to some numbers I've run it seems likely Maine will play away at UNH for the HE quarters even if Maine only takes 3 points. So, more than likely, Maine has to lay it all on the line this weekend and sweep PC if they want to host the HE quarters.

If Maine sweeps they host, keep in mind Merrimack could play UNH tough on senior weekend at Lawler, maybe take a game.

Hard to be patient with losses. The defense was atrocious this weekend and Rutt's butt should be on the bench. No excuses for anything but a SWEEP at home next weekend.

The defense hasn't been good in years, Red can't change that until he gets his recruits on the ice.

Can not continue to take unnecessary penalties away from puck. Pimms go ahead PP goal cost the team a very valuable point. Jacob has to learn how important it is to play the game above the shoulders.

Look at the game film and you'll see at least 150 "mistakes" many committed by the favorites yet for some reason the focus is on this one guy??? Whenever a goal is scored against, often there are 3 or 4 "mistakes" causing events to snowball with the result being the puck behind our goalie. I watched Hutton turn it over three times in the d zone leading to 2 great scoring chances for NU in one shift, not a whisper?? We have one d man physical enough to take on the other teams bigger forwards and you want to run him out of town. It gets old watching the other teams big forwards play with our D. Sometimes it looks like big brother against little brother out there. Rutt's play and his discipline have improved over the last two months, yeah he's made a few mistakes, name a player who hasn't?

Tall task. Both teams on the NCAA bubble, both on home ice bubble, hard to see anything but a split.

The positive spin: Going into the last week of the season, Maine controls its own destiny. However improbable it might seem, Maine *can* win 2 games at home. It's not completely ridiculous. And if they do, they get home ice and almost certainly put themselves in good position for the NCAA tournament (especially starting the HEA tournament at home).

It's sitting right there. Let's see if they can take it.

Yeah, meaningful games in March. It's what you prepare all season for, their fate is in their control.

Schurhammer was out this weekend though, right? I think they missed him.

The defense for the most part has been pretty solid all season, but the last few weeks have seen a lot more mental errors and in-game mistakes that have led to goals against. I don't know if maybe they just haven't been working on it so much in practice as Red had made quite an improvement early, maybe they got away from it a bit, or whether the players are just physically and mentally tired. Maybe they're just feeling the pressure and reverting to old habits that they've been taught in the past. Seen a lot of opposig forwards skating around and through Maine players while they just watch, or wave their stick at them on the way by.

Maybe Red just needs to get back to basics with them. Or maybe, now that it's crunch time, other teams are upping their game, and our players just can't handle it.

That was awesome

Yes, it was. I liked it so much I put it in my signature area. I think you can tell how much that loss agitated him and how bad he wants to win. Imagine his players get motivated when he delivers messages like that. He is doing an outstanding job and I think this is a sign of good things to come. :)
