turned it on just as Richmond was getting the ball before their drive to ties it at 21... house divided, wifey is a Richmond grad....

Gustav Nyquist played against Spencer Abbott tonight in the Wings/leafs preseason game. Leafs won and neither of them scored but fun to see them face off against each other in the NHL.

5 straight wins in the state of Virginia now. Remember when going down there was a nightmare?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

I do, anyway.

Slow enough at work today that I could follow the live stats/Maine audio most of the time... Good win, which might well pay dividends down the road. (I think that Richmond will finish strong.)

Have to say that I'm impressed with the tenacity of this team; they could make an unexpected splash in the FCS this year.

Football, not hockey, has truly been the flagship-program for Maine for a several years now.

Considering all the injuries the football team has , it made yesterdays win even better. Not sure how good Delaware is but they are next at Alfond

This stat more than anything is an example of Maine's rise (in talent level) among FCS football programs. I still don't think that our coaching is anything to write home about, but there's no doubt that Cosgrove & Co. can now attract top level FCS talent.

Well it's not the players installing the game plans, creating the routines and instilling motivation, drive and will. Must be divine intervention if the coaching sucks.

Whatever extra accoutrements Cozzy used his last contract to get a few years back are certainly paying off in a big way. The discipline is much better than it was 5-10 years ago. What he does, where he does it, its a gem.

Hard to cry about recruiting hockey players to the woods of Maine when Cozzy and Co are getting football players.

This doesn't make sense, if he can attract top talent their most be a reason, it isn't assts as they come and go so...................

So true......and regarding Cosgrove/Bourgoin.......no doubt that motivation is almost always there and as you said, discipline has improved by leaps and bounds. In game coaching however can still be a head scratcher.......but even that has improved somewhat. They still go to the well too often with the QB draw play.......and Was is paying for it!:(

Yeah......they like Cosgrove and he sends players to the NFL. Is there any part of that equation that you don't understand??? And does that have to = good in-game coaching??? Some of you take a stupid pill today or what?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

It's true the in game stuff is not amazing and I am still scarred by some of the goofs that I can remember from seasons past. But taken alone, the last Warren Smith year and if this year goes similarly...wow.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Since this has become the Maine football message board, I feel duty bound to report that former Black Bear Matt Mulligan scored the first touchdown of the evening for the New England Patriots.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Yes he did, and thank you... (It seems like he's finally learned to block a little bit, too.)

Seems that most of the criticism on here re: Maine football comes from the young 'uns who never had to witness just how putrid the program was way back when. I find it close to amazing how Maine has recruited/won over the past couple of decades, and how it keeps sending guys to the NFL.

Cozzy might not be Knute Rockne, but he has to be the most successful football coach Maine has ever had, by any reasonable measure.
