I know this is a HKY thread but what was the PAY-DAY that UMaine Football received for playing UMass & Northwestern..? Had to boost the coffers for the UMaine Sports Department.

$400,000 from Northwestern, $160,000 and a W from UMass.

Check the BU and BC threads from earlier this month for more commentary on it than you'd care to read.

hmmm cocaine and prostitutes... that sounds expensive for college athletes... i would hate to find out that boosters or "family advisors" supplied the cash for these expensive undertakings.

that sounds a lot worse than loaning a truck to move a couch or staying with a host family like ALL NON-US students were allowed to do, (and with the written approval of the NCAA). Maybe there will be an NCAA investigation like there was at Syracuse and Notre Dame... oh wait.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Spearing a guy isn't fighting.

according to http://www.lighthousehockey.com/201...boxscore-in-islanders-devils-preseason-circus

"But the penalties weren't done even then, as Joey Diamond (who also got a spearing penalty) got into a fight with Stephen Gionta. A longshot Long Island native getting into a fight with The Other Gionta with 35 seconds left just sounds so...so preseason. (And yet, it's what makes preseason a loveable no-stakes curiosity.)"

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Spearing a guy with :35 left in an exhibition game isn't fighting. It doesn't really matter if Gionta's team had an "enforcer" - Joey didn't go after him. He picked about the smallest guy on the ice to go after.

gosh, I cannot seem to find the video of what happened... why is it you say that Joey went after Gionta?

I'd be interested in seeing this written approval that states that "the university and head men's ice hockey coach failed to prevent the benefits from continuing after the formal discontinuation of the {extra benefits} program in 1991" was actually cleared by the NCAA. Please share.

In case you're interested, the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds will be playing the AHL's Portland Pirates Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 pm in Portland (sorry, I don't know which rink).

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Thanks, on the Fredericton end all we know is that the game is in "Portland" (although I'm sure the team knows where they're going ...) :-)

As you probably know on January 21st the Varsity Reds will be playing Maine at Alfond Arena. These two teams have faced each other regularly the last few years.

Yes, and a buddy and I are planning to be there. Haven't missed a UNB @ Maine game in a while since it is only a 3 hour drive from Fredericton. Wish it wasn't midweek in January -- could make for dicey driving with work the next day.

Sounds like a little bit like the Chris Herren saga from many years ago @ BC(B-Ball).

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

BC athletes sure do luv their hookers and blow. Probably find both at MaryAnne's.

I think you're coming down with something, Freddy. Fever, chills, the works. In a few month, that is.

One night there the night before a final a fraternity brother and me decided that whoever scored better on the video race game was obviously in better shape to drive home. He drove. I aced the exam. But I went to a different BC.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

with all the puck bunnies throwing themselves at the hockey players, I do not believe the prostitute part of the story....
honestly

Unfortunately you were banned before you got the chance to ask the BC fans in the know, who admitted in the BU thread that it was true when the tweet first made the rounds earlier this month.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Today was media day for Hockey East at the TD Garden. Coaches have Maine finishing in 8th spot out of 11 teams. Meaningless poll really, but adds a little fun to the preseason expectations. For what it's worth (as much as the coaches :D) I have Maine finishing 5th.
