According to lee Goldberg, Tim is now the head coach At Kimball union prep, your predictions are pretty valuable, have any come true yet?

Congrats to Tim, hope he does well and sends some players to Maine :D

Isn't lee Goldberg the same guy that said jay leach was the new assistant coach at Maine?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

I am too. Something magical or arbitrary about July 1st. That's the deadline for naming an assistant.
July 1 is the start of recruiting season. And the new fiscal year.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Sources say that Jay Leach has been offered the assistant job at Maine, per Mike McMahon.

TW still has a year left on his contract.... I highly doubt he will take another position and leave 190k on the table...they do not have to pay him that money if he takes another full time job... Only way we see TW behind the bench next year is if he is making close to the same amount of money---and while he may have inquired at KUA it would be way too big of a loss on his end...

I would guess that since his contract was bought out, he keeps that 190 large regardless. Similar to a severance package in the dreaded private sector, it's money to just go away.

One of the keys to the hire was the fact that they also hired his wife to teach there, great package for both

so instead of 190K to sit out a year, they will get 190K from Maine and another 150K+/- from KUA. sucks to be fired....

Often times a buyout clause written is such that they don't have to keep paying you if you accept another job or they pay only the difference between the salaries if the new salary is lower

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

More schedules have come out, without Maine on them. In particular, cross Michigan State off the list.

Teams that still have NC games (that Maine doesn't already play NC)

1 Bentley, Sacred Heart, Niagara, Cornell, BC, Merrimack, Vermont
2 Air Force, <strike>Canisius</strike>, Northern Michigan
5 Penn State

UMass-Lowell still has 4 NC games against unknown opponents. Army has already released its schedule with 3 NC spots open but not scheduled. Other teams may be stuck following suit.

Canisius will be going to the Catamount Cup so they are no longer an option. Lowell is also going, so they have two remaining unknowns. If it's to be one opponent on 1/3+4 the options are now between Air Force and Penn State.

Lowell has been rumored to be playing Penn State, I believe. Not sure if that info has changed as I don't keep up with it.

Even if that happens, Penn State would still have three games left. Getting a rivalry going with Penn State would be in both Lowell's and Maine's interests.

Just say that it ends up as Penn State, would that be played @ Maine or on the Road..? Hopefully a 2 game series also, and maybe a agreement to play each other either the following year or say 2 years down the line.

Normally I would say they would play 1/3+4 at home this season, but it would work out since the team would be flying back from Florida then so it wouldn't require a special trip to play @Penn State. I would love to see this become an annual series rotating between Alfond and Happy Valley. I will be so disappointed if the schedule comes out and it is Air Force or a split with two of Niagara, Sacred Heart or Bentley.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

I'm not familiar with the details of the Learfield marketing model, but I think it has worked to Maine's advantage. Learfield has far more resources than Maine could have mustered by going it alone. Learfield has contracts with "big time" division 1 programs and has the expertise to market a University's sports programs. I know that all of you Stephen King fans don't agree:D, and that I am probably in the minority on this thread. Under Learfield, Maine's sports programs have received much more coverage and have broadcasts that far exceed AM 620.

I'm just wondering who you wouldn't defend :p

Did they ever use that expertise to market our program that you no of? I dunno But I down here in portland I haven't seen that fantastic coverage and marketing at all.

But everything is sunny is Runsub5 world right

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

I believe Penn State will also visit Lowell in 2014.

So Penn State may want o come to Alfond in January and have Maine visit next season so they aren't making multiple trips to New England. At least that's what I'm hoping :)

Article from the BDN. To me, the most telling quote is: “I’m going to help them raise money for a new rink and fitness center. I guess all that fundraising that I didn’t really want to do at Maine may help me now,” quipped Whitehead.

It was a joke. But I'm sure the chorale will jump all over it.
